The darkness enhances your sense of smell. That's why Zexion had all those lines about being able to sense Riku and Marluxia and Vexen and the Superior and such. That was also a power Riku developed from being immersed in the darkness, as the scene where he discovers this shows: "Somethings...tastes kind of funny. It's so familiar...What is it? Darkness. The smell of darkness. What's happened to me? The darkness even seeps into my senses." I never even played the game itself, and I know that from watching the vids and reading the script online. Did anyone pay attention to this at all?
