This week on Old vs. New, we're exploring a series that I have fond childhood memories of: Donkey Kong Country.

So, what do you prefer? The old games of just a small controller, skill and a lot of luck with a semi-long storyline, a lot of platforming very little gimmicks with a steep difficulty and not many characters? Or the new one/ones (depending if you count 64 on this) With a complicated controller with motion controls, a lot of gimmicks, a complicated storyline, but not much platforming and little skill?

I myself prefer the old ones. I LOVED these games growing up. One of my fondest memories was going to a friends house and playing the first game when I was a kid. I also later on got the sequels and though not as fond as I was before with them, I still found a nostalgia with the series that made me keep coming back. I lost interest in 64, it just didn't have the charm or the enjoyability of the old games. I also found it frustrating on a lot of levels, like a lot of games being made by Nintendo at the time, it was trying the "collection" route and I seriously didn't like the gameplay due to it. Though I liked the rap.

I did try the new one that recently came out, but I found myself uninterested in it, especially with the Wii Mote. I found myself trying the demo, but leaving totally unsatisfied that it wasn't the same memories of my childhood.

Apparently the lunches were contaminated with insecticide. There's still investigations going on about it.

Dear God, what a travesty. I do hope it is an accident, but it doesn't sound like it. My thoughts and prayers go out to the children and their families.

Wow, I want to play League of Legends, I might be paid more, if I injure my knee lifting my PC, does that count as a sport injury?

Okay, okay... All joking aside, I think this is stupid, but noted... Very funny. Sorry if it's in the wrong spot.

Welcome to this weeks, old vs new, we're studying one of the most classic series out there this week, Castlevania.

I have played a bit of Castlevania, Super Castlevania IV,, and halfway through Symphony of the Night. But I did watch the Angry Video Game Nerds dedication to the series and have actually seen some trailers/a playthrough of some other games. So here we go:

What do you prefer? The old version of platforming, very hard gaming with cheap deaths, difficult jumps, and hard enemies with very little storyline, two weapons and side scrolling linearity? Or the new versions, with a Metroid feel of massive exploration, easier gameplay, but with different types of gameplay, including the 3D versions? Or do you like both equally?

NOTE: If you have any ideas for me to do, send me a PM with the series that has changed over the years from the start of gaming to 2000 that still runs today. It could be just one game that's a remake, it could be a series. You will get credit. Thank you.

    I wish I didn't see this coming:

    http://www.gamepur.com/news/11407-p...ne-drm-and-other-restrictive-features-ba.html

I still think it's funny as hell even though I knew it was coming. Well, I'd wish them luck, but I don't want MS to do well if the restrictions were placed, so...

I don't know what to say other than laugh some more.

    EDIT: THERE IS SOME SWEARING!!!!!!!

Though I do have to admit the signatures are hilarious to read.

EDIT: Here's the counter one, again, saw this coming:

In this old vs. new, we're looking in-depth at the blue bomber: Mega Man.

And yes, I didn't play this either, but I did look at a recent games, I also read the manga for Battle Network and looked at the games. :P

So what do you prefer? The good old linearity platforming with different battles of boss robots and variety and challenge of levels with little variation on the theme? Or the new ones with storylines, varying themes and more highlights?

Sorry about before, I'm starting to run out of Old and News I've played. Thanks Digital for pointing that out. =3

I know this isn't a issue that is usually brought up, but this also happens in my town and frankly it ticks me off.

I live fifteen minutes from the beach, and every morning about fifty to a hundred dogs are on the beach during the summer until nine am and back at five pm. They're allowed off the leash if voice controlled, but there's little to no enforcement.

The biggest problem is that no owners clean up after their dogs. None. It is not as bad as a park, granted because of the fact the tides come in every 12 hours. But it still is massively disgusting and kids walk around barefoot on the beach also. There's also a part of the beach that's private that got so bad the owners of the hotel threatened to close off their part of the beach to the public another way other than lifeguards.

There's also issues with this, dogs going after little kids, dogs attacking people who are walking, dogs getting into fights and attacking each other. But that's for another issue, there's more people enforcing it, but it's still pretty bad to the point where my mom doesn't like me even walking barefoot on the beach anymore because of how dirty it can get.

    Thoughts?

This was a classic for me that unfortunately died a short time after the dreamcast came out.I haven't played much of the new games, so bear with me:

What do you prefer? The old games of speed and linearity with a ton of speed and fast moving action fighting against Robotnik, but with less storyline and less characters? Or the new games, with more story, more characters, and more things going on?

Again, I grew up with the classics. While everyone was talking about Mario, I sat down with my Genesis and played Sonic the Hedgehog 3 and Sonic and Knuckles. I even tried often (and failed) to beat Sonic the Hedgehog 2, always getting beat at the airship.

There's something charming about the game. I tried Sonic Heroes and really didn't find it appealing to me. Whether it was the 3D, the way the controls worked or something else, I never really got into it. The Dreamcast was way above my budget at the time so I didn't even bother trying to keep involved, instead opting for other consoles.

Later on, I found myself excited for Sonic the Hedgehog 2006, and well... That was DOA before I could even blink. I have heard of other games coming out, but I never saw any games that have made me as excited as the original games.

I was laughing too hard to fully understand the article, (sorry if this is in the wrong place.) but apparently they're being sued for Duke Nukem Forever for the amount of 2 million dollars.

It's pretty complicated, but the gist of it is that they're suing Gearbox for how terrible the game was and poor sales.

    Now I've seen everything.

I'm actually going to change it this week because I have never actually played a Metroid game. And yes, I know I should at some point and probably will.

But that's for another thread at some other point: So what do you prefer, the old games of exploration but still side-scrolling? Or do you prefer the new FPS view and more exploration? Do you like the silent or new very talkative Samus? Why?

I DON'T know if this is real, but this is spreading like wildfire in the Internet. A MS employee who basically was working on the One sent this to a few press gaming sites:

    http://www.heyuguysgaming.com/news/12507/heartbroken-xbox-one-employee-lets-rip-must-read

If this is real, I have to say, wow... This would've made the One a ticking time bomb waiting to go off. Can you imagine the reactions to this if the system was released and the main huge feature was declared a demo from 15-45 minutes instead?

I seriously got turned off the system on this news. And I mostly believe it because they're feeding us all this bs all this time and keeping the answers vague. I see it happening.

I also see some MS fan going into rage about the changes and posting this just out of anger on the changes to the One.

If it's fake, which so far they're not doing anything to stop this rumor. I stand where I am. It can be deleted btw if it is fake.

I keep on hoping this is totally fake just from the sheer stupidity of it. If it is, let me know...

    But holy hell......

The only bright news I see out of this is they're finally shutting up Mattrick.

If Nintendo, during their most dominant times int he market: 1980 and 1990... With the technology today, did the stuff Xbox One is doing...

People would react differently and still buy it?

    I'm just curious.

Well, the last one didn't seem too popular, so I decided to give it one last shot, I chose one of my favorite old series when I was growing up:

    The Legend of Zelda.

Do you prefer the old games with the dungeons and head scratching puzzles without a lot of gimmicks but seems to follow a pattern? Or the new ones, with something different each one that makes it different than the last? Or do you prefer both?

Honestly, I played until Majora's Mask, and never really finished a game after that. I only played Majora's Mask once and the mask quests drove me crazy along with the shortness of the game. Even with the mask sidequest, it only took me two weeks to beat the game compared to two months with Ocarina of Time. I tried Windwaker and Twilight Princess, but the water traveling really made it painful for me to play and I really just lost interest in Twilight Princess.

I watched a playthrough of Skyward Sword, and that usually makes me more hyped. But I just sat there and didn't feel anything towards the game. I stopped watching at the second dungeon and never really tried again.

The old games has such a nostalgia for me. I play Link to the Past constantly, and it competes with Ocarina of Time as my favorite games of the series. Maybe I'm just old fashioned, but these new games don't seem to hold the same appeal.

I have a tendency to watch Angry Joe now since the One has been shown. He managed to snag Major Nelson who's one of the higher-ups for the Xbox One for a prearranged interview. Just thought I'd share because despite the fact it covers a lot of the same material, I saw some stuff that bothered me:

    http://angryjoeshow.com/2013/06/xbox-one-aj-interview/

One thing especially was that Joe was saying that PR were trying to come in during the whole interview and stop it. They were circling around and being a distraction from the interview and seemed generally mad that he was doing it.

Another was that the way Nelson handled some of the questions. He was friendly and nice at first, then he started to get more confrontational and rude as the questions were directed to the concerns of the consumers over the One.

Especially the fact he didn't answer ANY of the concerns or Don's comments.

I wish I had a link on this, but I was watching the Today Show which had George Lucas and Steven Spielburg on together this morning for an interview. They were saying films cost more to make this day and age and doesn't have the revenue to make up for the money. Actors, CGI, etc... Actors alone cost millions of dollars.

I was listening with mostly half an ear when they mentioned that the price should go higher. Way higher. To Broadway prices, 100-150 bucks per ticket. To compensate for the price of the movie. They used After Earth and several others as an example (which I think any movie that causes Spoony to get hammered after seeing it is not a good example) for a movie that cost a lot more to make that's not breaking even.

I'm curious: Do you think the prices of the theaters should go up? Do you think that they have the right idea?

Myself, I'm going to try to hold back as much ranting as possible here. But, are you serious? After Earth is terrible because it was made terribly. Will Smith has a ton of talents, but writing and directing is apparently not one of them, and hiring M. Knight Shamilayn as a director also who has come out with some of the worst movies ever made lately. Not to mention George Lucas's record for the last three movies he made.

Steven Spielburg, yes, he has made good movies. I heard Lincoln was fantastic, and I am a fan of his work. But maybe it's the economy or other factors that have people reluctant to spend 8-10 bucks to 25 on a movie ticket. That's just me, when I went to a tight budget, I didn't suddenly go out every weekend and watch movies. Hell, I have barely gone to the movie theater since college. And that place costs ten bucks for the refreshments and tickets. And it was booming.
