... Or are they???
1. Differentiate between gymnosperms and angiosperms. A= Gymnosperms have reproductive parts called cones, which are male and female. Male gametophytes are pollen. Pollen contains sperm. Female gametophytes produce eggs. Wind transfers pollen from the male cone to the female cone during pollination. In angiosperms, however, the reproductive parts are different. The male reproductive parts are called anthers. Pollination happens when pollen is moved from anthers to stigmas, the female reproductive parts. 2. Describe on kind of asexual reproduction in plants. What is an advantage of this kind of asexual reproduction? A= Plantlets. Plantlets let plants reproduce without using energy to find a mate. Also, it allows them to produce rapidly, allowing for a large population. 3. Compare the patterns of sexual reproduction in nonvascular plants and the patterns in seedless vascular plants. A= Nonvascular: Gametophytes of nonvascular plants grow very close together in clumps. When water covers the gametophytes, sperm swim to the female gametophytes and fertilize the eggs. Seedless Vascular: They have tissues that deliver materials from one part of the plant to another part of the plant. Some vascular plants are seedless. Seedless vascular plants also produce a lot of spores and need water in order to reproduce. However, in most species of seedless vascular plants, both eggs and sperm are produced on the same plant. 4. Which part of a flower develops into a fruit? Into a seed? A= The ovary is the part of the flower that turns into a fruit and each ovule becomes a seed. 5. When might asexual reproduction be important for the survival of angiosperms? A= When there is no water to help reproduce. Also, when there is no other possible mate. 6. Sexual reproduction results in more genetic variation than asexual reproduction does. Why is variation important? A= It allows for a bigger and more versatile population. 7. Angiosperms can reproduce asexually. One type of asexual reproduction produces stems that grow horizontally along the ground, take root, and grow into new plants. What are these stems called? A= A, Runners. Because I have nothing better to do, I posted my homework, already finished.
