    In my opinion, Microsoft's line-up this year was a lot stronger than any of the others, mostly because they've branched out so much in the genres that they were not really known for (casual and RPGs). Having secured some quality JRPGs for this year and next, as well as adding some particularly innovative casual titles like Taking It To the Movies, as well as an Xbox Live interface update with some new features, as an overall package, I think Microsoft won E3 in terms of content.

    However, despite that, I absolutely loved Sony's presentation at their press conference today, and completely thought they had the most entertaining segment this year. The use of LittleBigPlanet to help display their statistics and PSHome still reminds me of what sorts of innovations Sony is taking to try to create a community as large and cohesive as the XBL community. It's still a very young system so I hope the best for it in the coming years.

    Nintendo wasn't particularly of any interest to me personally this year, and it only makes me feel better about my choice of selling my Wii. Nintendo is really going somewhere else this generation and I don't think I can follow. It's not a bad direction of course, since they are still the industry leaders and are obviously following a route of success, but after seeing their line-up and watching them 'attempt' to appeal to the hardcore like myself, it's just not a system for me anymore.

    Concluding from this, I feel like that each of the companies have shown their major strengths (whether or not these were their intentions or not remains to be seen):

    - Microsoft has more then ever become one of the (if the not the most) versatile system(s) on the market in terms of games. Investing in snagging major titles from areas they were weaker in has worked to their advantage in more ways than one. I used to be more divided in my opinion on which console to get for what reasons because it used to be so clear cut in terms of which genres were more affiliated with which console, but the 360 has more than ever closed this gap.

    - While also still retaining some merit as a versatile system (reputation carried over from the sucess of the PS2), I feel like Sony's versatility has been more focused on things other than gaming. This includes 'bringing your PC to your living room'. Now with the blu-ray winning the format war, functioning as a blu-ray player along with its additional features of media servers and the like, the PS3 has become somewhat the #1 media device on the market in my opinion.

    - Nintendo's obvious and in my opinion, #1 selling point is their awesome way of not just catering to the casual gamers, but Nintendo has also developed a way to draw new people into gaming who weren't really ones themselves in previous years. In most cases, casuals almost always outnumber the hardcore, so it's no surprise that catering to a casual crowd is a direction that works, and Nintendo has shown that in spades.

    Not even worth a rent.

    It's one of those games that you'll probably end up playing if you were at your distant cousin's birthday party and he/she so happened to have it.

    Not really.

    I've mentioned this months ago, but it's cultural statistics. Japanese gamers are far more into collector's items than North Americans. This is why Japanese people shell out hundreds of dollars for limited edition 5" figurines while most North Americans don't bat an eye.

    Director's Cuts versions are optimized for Japanese audiences because the ratio of gamers in Japan who would bother to purchase a revamped game at the price of a full new title is substantially higher than here in North America. Also, the development of the game is localized (made in Japan, sold in Japan) which dramatically cuts costs for production.

    Bringing any game to North America is a substantial feat and costs a ridiculous amount of money in comparison to a JP localization. Why do you think there are hundreds upon hundreds of titles that never make it to NA shores every year? Japanese developers only bother to bring their A-list games to North America because they're certain that their returns will meet the costs it takes to bring a game overseas.

    When you bring a game over to another country as drastically different to the origin such as JP > North America, you're dealing with a whole set of expenses that are mandatory to go through. Hiring English voice actors, redoing lipsyncs, the game needs to be screened by the ESRB, and even after getting it screened, any corrections that must be made will then have to be redone/removed/edited which also requires time and money. Finally the repackaging and the sheer cost per capita of shipping each individual game overseas (something which is nonexistent in a Japanese localization) is another marginal cost that needs to be made back.

    The hype for Final Mix+ is just not high enough for SE to profit from bringing it here in North America. Most people who bought KH2 probably don't even know Final Mix+ exists because only the fanatics would've bothered to go online and search hard enough to find out about it.

    My point exactly. I've been nothing by civil but yet the people telling me to lighten up are the ones cussing in my face, lol. Rethink your cognition there, please.

    Also, why do you assume I'm the one going nuts? Is it uncommon to thoroughly express one's opinion? I don't think so. Rather, detail is one way to eliminate questions that don't need to be asked later on.

    More words on a post =/= "Omg, I'm sooo pissssed."

    "If you don't like something, why do you put yourself through it? Log off khv for christs sake instead of arguing with us soft skinned people."
    Nah. Evidently you haven't come across me enough on this forum because this is just typical Soushirei.

    EDIT: And oh, I never specifically called you soft-skinned, LightningAmbition. I said a 'crap load' of people on KHV are, but you are the one who decided to involve yourself with that group. That insinuation has nothing to do with me.

    Being part Japanese, how would you like it if someone took a stab at your nationality?

    If you want to criticize me for being 'confrontational' (when I dealt with the matter quite cleanly if you ask me), then I'll criticize Haseo on the notion of being racist.

    You'll spare no word for the racist comment, but banter on me about correcting others?

    And on the contrary, I provided factual information and a clear-cut basis for my claims. I took no personal stabs at anyone's race, culture, nationality (which can't be said for what I quoted against "The Japanese are selfish"?), nor did I cuss or swear out anyone out.

    What I posted is what you'd find in any typical debate.

    The problem here is that a crap load of people on KHV are so soft-skinned and get all worked up over any comment that disagrees with them. I throw facts in people's faces and somehow that means I'm 'making them look stupid'? Please.

    Lol. 'disproves the theory' means that most professionals do *not* have the brains of a four-year-old, which I think was what this quiz was trying to prove--even if the basis of it is total rubbish.

    In any case, I remember this when I was child, but it was told as a joke, not a quiz.

    What does 'stronger than a man' mean? I can't help but notice you've repeatedly compared men and women in such a way that suggests men are always supposed to be stronger.

    Well, have you seen many inbetween males either?

    And I think you overestimate some of your examples. Elizabeth Swann is by no means 'unnaturally strong'. She simply had a strong personality, but I hardly believe she was someone who took down armies of people in the third film. The only person who is qualified to be called an unnaturally strong woman in that film was Calypso.

    It's natural that both men and women fall under one or the other because heroes and heroines have to be given significant stances to fit their significant roles. But this itself doesn't attest true in all cases because there are *many* males and females who are main characters but still fit inbetween.

    Justin Long's character Matt Ferrel in Die Hard 4 was a classic inbetween character. He was a major character that pushed the plot, but his only skill was his skills with a computer. He was not physically strong by any means and was quite a coward in the face of danger. And this is a male character we're speaking about.

    Aerith from FFVII wasn't unnaturally strong by any means, in fact, she wasn't an offensive fighter to begin with. A main character with a clerical position on the team, and far from being a damsel in distress, she helped Cloud and the others with their mission before meeting her end at the tip of Sephiroth's blade. Her death however wasn't a product of a damsel suffering at the hands of her captor; she more or less sacrificed herself. To willingly give one's life is a type of power that's stronger than most.

    Now for some Social Psychology.

    Your point that female characters often tend to be one or the other is an example of Confirmation Bias and the Availability Heuristic. Because a female being unnaturally strong or a damsel in distress is such a prominent and vivid persona, you overestimate the frequency in which this happens, or in other words: you see it happen a few times, then think it happens all the time. Coupling this is the Confirmation Bias, where you then only tend to notice events or circumstances that affirm your observation, and ignore or don't bother to research instances that lessen or disprove your idea.

    From what I can tell and recall, women *do* tend to be damsels in distress more often than men, but there is about an equal occurrence of men and women being both the all-powerful heroes and heroines, as well as being inbetween.

    Quite a coincidence, but I sure picked a good year to finally invest in a 360.

    I can't be any happier for owning a Playstation 360 right now.

    Last Remnant delay doesn't pertain to me, and I was planning to pick it up for 360 initially anyway. I was getting rather worried about Infinite Undiscovery and SO4's fate back when I didn't get a 360, but again, none of that matters anymore.

    It looks like the 360 is plenty set to occupy me with my JRPG fill until Fabula Nova Crystallis decides to show itself.

    Now here's hoping for dual-language... Tri-Ace is just horrible with their localizations.

    It's hard to play steathily when MGO overall, marketed to be a shooter game. There are just too many more ways to play using a gun than to prone, CQC and knife people.

    Also the fact that online shooters cater to a crowd who prefer instant gratification rather than marveling in their progress.

    <.<

    Japanese Origin:

    Sora = Sky
    Kairi = Sea/Ocean Village
    Riku = Land

    Then the BBS:

    Latin Origin:

    Aqua = Water
    Terra = Earth
    Ventus = Wind

    And just for silly comparisons:

    Sora/Ventus = Sky/Wind
    Kairi/Aqua = [Sea/Ocean] Village/Water
    Riku/Terra = Land/Earth

    Pretty sure most have seen this connection already.

    I'd like to see some significant testimonials of this being the case. Diplomacy is still the most widely used way of dealing with problems in the world today.

    That aside, I'm pretty sure most haven't forgotten (and agree) that language is one, if not the most, profound invention the human race has.

    Too early to judge. And I think you just mean sales, not stocks.

    If you ask me, I'm guessing that all these SE+tri-ace RPGs going to the 360 this year and next (Star Ocean 4, Infinite Undiscovery, and SE title Last Remnant) is SE's way of re-testing the waters to see just where their JRPGs stand on the 360 market.

    With any feasible KH3 game development due to start ONLY after VsXIII releases, Nomura can compare the success of those JRPGs on the 360 with the success of Fabula Nova Crystallis on the PS3.

    If Infinite Undiscovery, Last Remnant and Star Ocean 4 do well on the 360, I'd sooner accept the possibility of KH3 going multiplatform for PS3/360. If the JRPGs flop on the 360, SE might not bother to push for it and keep it PS exclusive.

    Most credit systems I've experienced are not awarded by post, but rather by the length of the post.

    Therefore, a one-liner awards you let's say 0.50, whereas someone who wrote a compelling essay gets awarded 5. I've seen this in action and it completely works. A forum I used to smod back in day even went so far as to put in a Bank system where they can deposit currency into it and gain a percentage of daily interest.

    Now the only reason why I would see this not working is because frankly, there is a large volume of members on this site and many of them aren't particularly mature enough to handle this. So to counter this, consider basing credit awardment on the length of one's post (except for probably in the spamzone) as opposed to simply posting as a means to alleviate this 'abuse' that some of you are worried about.

    The credit system in general isn't really that complicated and doesn't impact the forum in any way that would cause substantial abuse. The fact that some of you feel it *will* become a form of abuse is simply a reflection of your understanding of just how messed up a majority of the members here are.

    And if you're really concerned, then consider the awards one can purchase with the credits. Make them things that are inconsequential to the forum's well-being (ex. Usertitle changes, username color changes), simple aesthetic upgrades that don't harm anyone.

    I don't flame.

    F**k off you stupid b**** a** c*** motherf***er.

    The above is flaming.

    The Japanese have every right to do what they want with things they own/make.

    They have no obligation to service us in North America if they don't want to.

    On the contrary, it is selfish of us to assume they need to cater to us.

    If you made a video game in your basement for you and a bunch of your friends, then someone in China goes "Wow, I heard about your game and it looks awesome. Can you translate it in Chinese, redo the packaging for Chinese audiences, have it rated in accordance to our national laws and then ship it to me?"

    If you said no because:
    a) You do not have the funds to develop the localization
    b) You don't have the time to make the localization

    How is that selfish?

    Kingdom Hearts is made by Japanese people using Japanese resources by a Japanese company. It is their choice and their right to only release their Japanese-made game on Japanese soil. Also considering that releasing Re:CoM in NA would most likely cause them to lose money, I really don't see how it's selfish for a company to consider their well-being.

    If you want the game, import it.
