But seriously, I had an XP computer for close to 5-6 years, I think, with very few problems at all. The only reason I'm running Vista now is because my XP laptop completely crashed, and they don't sell XP computers anymore. If I could, I would go back to XP Service Pack 2. Most of my computer problems started when I upgraded to SP3, and then Vista. Vista is way too clunky, and it looks like what money would normally be diverted to quality programming got funneled into flashy interfaces, instead. It kinda sucks, but if you want top-quality, either build it yourself, or get something older. The new stuff coming out nowadays just isn't up to the old standards. And don't even get me started on Macs! They're even worse than Vista!

That's actually kinda scary... I mean, those kids are at their most impressionable right now, and someone is actually using that vulnerability for political means? That's illegal, for christ's sake! And I don't buy that bull about the lyrics being sent home. I think that's the school board covering their asses.

Right, but before we discovered how to control fire, our ancestors ran in terror from it. Before we invented the wheel, we had to haul things ourselves. Before we figured out how to mine coal, we used wood fires or nothing at all. My point is, after these discoveries were made, we were no longer at the mercy of mother nature. Now, to an extent, we control nature, and force it to give up what we need. Granted, it can still kill us (tsunamis, earthquakes, etc), but in the long run, we control it. And, now it seems, we can kill it, but that's a rant for another thread.

Why does it seem like every time that man makes an announcement about anything, I end up hating him even more? Oh yea, because he's obviously not qualified to run the country. That's why I didn't vote for him. Kids have a hard enough time staying in school right now, and he wants to keep them there longer? How exactly is that going to solve our problem (if, indeed, we have a problem in the US)?

Maybe. The cost of doing so would be the issue. Also, what if tapping into the magma caused it to erupt prematurely?

I feel sorry for asthmatics, personally. I saw pictures of this online. It looked, from the pictures I saw, like the surface of Mars.

Since they're so close in development, it might be that they are both born at the same time naturally. I would guess, though, due to the trauma that labor induces, they'll make it happen at the same time, either through drugs or c-section.

In addition to this, the last major meteor impact was 65 million years ago. According to the past record of impacts, we are well overdue for another one of those. Plus the ever-looming threat of nuclear war, and the impending environmental catastrophe, plus the Fundies saying Armageddon is coming... It seems we're screwed in far more ways than one. :D

But, more on topic, even if that super-volcano does erupt, it won't be the end of our race. We'll find a way to survive, just like we survived the last Ice Age. Hell, it may be that the only habitable areas remaining might be Africa, Australia, and parts of Antarctica, but somehow, some amount of humanity will survive. We have proven, again and again, that we are the most adaptive race on the planet, able to survive in almost any climate, from Ice Age Europe to the Sahara.

There has, to the best of my research abilities, never been an atheist in any of the major positions of the main branches of government in the history of the united states. Every. single. one of them has been some form of Christian. Now, whether that is true for more local governments, I don't know. I don't know where to find those statistics.

Even though I had some of the highest grades in any of my classes, in classes filled with potheads who just liked to fuck around in class, cause it was "boring and worthless" (their own words)?

Actually, that's entirely true. Nutmeg can kill you in extremely large doses. Even air can kill, at the right pressure.

Gay has multiple meanings now. Language evolves, just as species do, except at a faster rate. Back in the 40's, "gay" meant "happy and pleasant", not "homosexual". Now, it seems to be on a transition between "homosexual" and "stupid". In 100 years, it could mean something else entirely, or it could even be a dead word, like "namelings", used in 1706, meaning "persons bearing the same name".

    Absolutely, 120%, undoubtedly NO.

There is a VERY good reason why we have separation of church and state. Imagine if every time you broke the smallest law, you not only gain punishment in this life, but you get a threat of divine retribution as well. Every time you spoke out about your government, you commit heresy and blasphemy, even if you tell the truth. Every time the government does something, it is holy, right, and divinely mandated. Read the Dune series, particularly the original books. They have a perfect example of what I'm talking about. Introduce religion into the government, even in a small way, and very soon corruption, graft, lies, and propaganda take root. After that, if nothing is done, it gets worse, and eventually you have a god-emperor. I don't want to live like that.

We can already see the effects of religion in government, the graft, corruption, etc. There is a religious bias even today. consider, not once in the United States' history has an Atheist been president, or, as far as I know, anywhere in high office (Cabinet, congress, etc). Religion will inevitably come up as an issue in every presidential debate. etc, etc. We have enough religion, thanks. We have enough shepherd-worshiping sheep in office. I personally am thinking of not voting until someone has the balls to run for president as an atheist.

If it gets that bad, it's probably time to stop. Now, even though I'm 21, I have never drank before, but if I did, I would do so cautiously and in moderation, until I found my tolerances. I mean, I never want to get so drunk I can't remember it in the morning, for instance, or do something so half-assed stupid like you described. I'm bad enough at socializing when I'm sober, for god's sake.

A cameo is someone from one continuity (series, show, movie, real life, etc) appearing in another. So like, the FF characters in KH would all be cameos, to an extent, since they originated somewhere else.

That could have ended quite badly. I mean, what the hell? Giving cocaine to a kid, to evade arrest? I bet you anything murder charges are far worse than drug charges, and it could very well have been murder, if the kids had bothered to take the cocaine out of the bags before eating it.

It works, to an extent. It's just another alternative medicine, like acupuncture or herbal drugs. As I understand it, the subject must be willing to be hypnotized, and have a certain mindset. I doubt I could be hypnotized, since I have a very literal, scientific mindset, and prize my independence and individuality too much. Also, the extent to which a person can be persuaded varies from person to person, as well, based on the same factors - willingness and mindset. Some people can snap out of it quite quickly and naturally, other people keep the post-hypnotic suggestion for the rest of their lives (that's why anti-smoking hypnosis is actually legal - it works for some, therefore there is no false advertising). All it takes is either an empirical training in hypnosis, or, theoretically, a very good working knowledge of the workings of the subject's brain.

I think, though I'm not sure, several of our studies and breakthroughs on brain activity have come from studying authentic hypnosis patients.

It had all the problems we always see, either in reality or fiction, associated with a large power - corruption, bad leadership, stretched military, the works. I think it did well, but it couldn't return as it was, I think. It would need some massive readjustments and rethinkings, especially because of the influence democracy and freedom have had on the world, particularly Europe/America.
