150 years ago it was thought to be completely out of the scope of humanity to ever soar the skies. Now, air transportation is the single fastest mean of getting around the world to date. I have lost all hope in trying to put a limit on technology. I don't think there is one, to be honest. With the exception of a few, of course, like time travel. But I think we'll get to light speeds one day, assuming humans still exist on Earth by then.
I normally hold doors open for anyone, until the flow of people is over. Which means I'm often standing there holding a door for a good minute or two. But I don't mind, I would hate myself if I didn't.. I prefer to be as polite as I've been taught.
Rude and Barret pwn all. ;D
I played it for a month and never got into it. WoW sucks. xD
Airwalks ftw... But I chose Converse.
Pssh. While you're out playing space cowboy I'll be sitting in the spiritual verse, enjoying eternity. xD But seriously, I'm surprised just how far we've come in creating antimatter engines. This means that we'll basically leapfrog through the technology timeline, from liquid or gas fueled engines that can really only take us a bit farther than the moon, to using antimatter to push us to Mars with only 10-thousandths of an M&M's weight in matter... o.o
We've never even attempted something THIS distant before. It'll be at least a decade or 2 before we can even consider sending a PROBE to 581 C.
Deffinately Edward Elric and Winry, from FMA. ;D
I know, I know, I've been like... not around. Ever. xD Cause I'm new! AHAHAHA! ...-waves-
Hello brothers and sisters!.... Egh, that sounds so weird and creepy.
Aye, the whole problem is that children are learning the wrong things. I remember reading the paper a while back and seeing that a 26 year old was going to prison for impregnating an 11 year old girl. Thing is, she was willing, which bugs me deeply.
Honestly, I don't think it was society's job to teach us how to be chivalrous. If you look at the people who are, they are not from the best of backgrounds or they aren't from a place that you would expect many chivalrous people. I come from a place in which a man will hit a little girl on her bike with a pickup just because he was late for work, and yet I still understand that that is wrong, and that there ARE indeed certain guidelines that we, as humans, should know to follow. It is a natural state of being to help your fellow man because it simply feels good. I think our problem is that we have become numb to the laws of humanity, and it's not just society's fault. It's our own fault. We are given a choice early in our youth whether to be kind or be cruel, some might know this as kindergarten. I've noticed that often times the bullies of the past are the bullies of today, and the same goes with the flirty, the shy, the kind and the smart. We were not taught to be this way (of course, my psychology teacher would have my head for saying that), but we -chose- to be that way, deep inside our subconscious. This is no longer a matter of "today" or "yesterday" or "how it was", it is a matter of becoming and remaining. I hope you all can understand this, I'm starting to even confuse myself. Basically, we all have a choice when we wake up every morning to be a good man(or woman), or not. Deep inside, we know we can't blame anyone but ourselves for our inconsideracy...(new word?) I myself realize that I have not been as kind and understanding as I should be, and I suppose this thread actually awoken that realization of how I used to be, how I am and how I will try to be. And I think everyone should at least play their lives through their heads once or twice a year to decide if they are being who they wanted to be.
I got it within a minute of reading the riddle. xD You just have to remember that he had the hiccups...
The bartender pulled a gun on him in order to scare the hiccups away, and it worked. >.>
Hmmm... Normally I would say it should be the parents' jobs, but I've completely lost faith in a majority of American parents. As such, I believe schools should begin teaching sex ed at around 7th-8th grade. The first thing they should teach is what sex is, obviously, and the consequences and purposes of having sex. Then, later on, they should teach about the types of diseases one ca contract through having sex and then how to have safe sex. Abstinence is out of the question these days. This world is obsessed with sex, and so teaching abstinence would be like trying to get America to ban smoking. Ain't gonna happen. I would LOVE if more people practiced abstinence, but I have to be real with myself...
Pssh, I said you guys. Plural! xD But yeah, I understand yours and everyone's points, I'm just trying to give a slightly different perspective for the sake of discussion. If everyone agrees, it's not a very good discussion is it? ^^
And you guys were technically saying any bomb threat has bad intentions. ;P And aye, I do agree telling authorities is the best option, but I think we all know some people just don't like cops, don't like to get involved or are simply not thinking right at the time, so they go to the extremes. I'd rather have a lesser extreme than a greater extreme, if those were the only immediate and clear-cut choices.
Sure about that? Sometimes I think women and men are completely different species. xD But I'll have to agree with Cin and the uberly awesome Dave Chappele, chivalry is dead and women killed it. Little add-on here: Chivalry was never meant to pick up girls, it was never even meant to be just for girls you are interested in. Chivalry was meant to be a code of conduct for people to live by, and treat -everyone- with a good heart, good intentions and bunches of respect. We can still respect people without opening doors for them. We could pause in the street to let someone pass, we could wave people past us if we're driving slow, we could offer to pay that extra 12 cents someone might not have for a sandwich. It's very simple, and not overly creepy. I think some people just forget to be kind because they're always in a hurry or they're always worried about who will think what by doing this or that or anything..
It's a better thing to do than shoot up a school or even blow it up. -winkwink- Besides, since when did I say they should be seen as a hero? I simply said it would be an interesting situation with good intentions.
Like awmg... >.> My school uses firewalls... in which the icon is in the taskbar. Right click > Configure > Automatically Detect Settings = Instant access. It's that easy. <.< Ahahaha.
