No exams. Being a senior r0x. ;D Okay, I do have to take one exam, but the class isn't required to graduate so I'm just not gonna take it.
Armed robbery has nothing to do with this. Rape is not the leading cause of pregnancy. More people get pregnant from normal sexual activity than they do from being raped. Don't try to change the subject please. u.u
I don't believe in past lives because I'm Christian, so... Besides, if past lives existed, that would suck. It just means that when you die, you forget who you are and just become a new person. So it's a neverending process in which you remember nothing of this life. I'd rather take my memories with me, thank you very much.
You people seem to be taking my viewpoints to the extremes. I never once said a government should do nothing for its people, but I don't feel the government owes every single person in the country free health care or other self-attainable services. What I'm saying when I say that giving too much is bad is this; if the people rely too heavily on the government, they lose their independence and their ability to provide for themselves. Take social security for example; everyone knows that social security in the U.S. isn't doing so hot at the moment, and some speculate that it might not exist later on. If we rely too heavily on this social security, it might not even be there later and we will be, to put it bluntly, royally screwed. However, if we take matters into our own hands and we save up our own money and make a financial plan, we can create our own individual social securities. However, this isn't the topic... "Thou shalt not kill" is generalized to me. Just as is murder in today's laws. It is the law that you cannot kill, unless it is during self defense or in defense of a family member/someone you love. Such is the same with the bible. Many times it gives times when it is permissible to kill so long as you take no pleasure in it. " Thou shall not suffer a witch to live" comes to mind here. There's also a passage, though I don't remember which, which outlines a punishment as stoning a person to death. You all seem to think that if anyone kills now-a-days it's out of pleasure. That's not the case. Often times it is out of self defense or defense of another. Sometimes it is for a strong ideal. And to say that killing is not in our nature is ignorance; throughout history man has always killed. Whether it is to gain food, gain honor or take land, it's always been a part of humanity. Not a century has gone by that there hasn't been a war of some sort. Also, I'm not saying killing is our only instinct. I don't see how you would have even gotten that from what I said. We have other emotions and ideals like love and honor in order to balance out the urge and need to kill. The emotions we have help us to know when killing is required. Some people don't have those emotions and thus they kill. Some people have nothing but those emotions and could NEVER kill. Anger and love balance eachother out, and thus we require both in order to survive and live. Killing will always be in our nature, accept it or not, and I believe that it is society's responsibility to make sure it is done controllably and to those that deserve it. Edit: Quick little add-on, I looked at that list of the countries with best healthcare, and all of the countries that received better scores have a much smaller population than the United States does, meaning they have more people weighing the score in one direction or the other. Can't always look at the numbers.
I'm against abortion in all forms and all excuses. I figure, if a woman is dumb enough to have unprotected or premarital sex and they end up getting pregnant, shame on them. It's like jumping out of an airplane with a parachute much too small for you and say you don't deserve to fall to your death. If you're stupid, you get punished. That's how karma and life works. Now I understand sometimes the woman was unwilling, but it's very difficult to prove that and it would take longer than 9 months. Since we can't prove a woman has been raped, we must assume she wasn't because the majority aren't. Even then, the government can enforce child support on the father. If he raped her, he's probably a bad guy and won't pay, and thus will be punished in turn.
They aren't making it harder on us, they're making it easier. They do the jobs we won't do. Tell me, how many of you would CHOOSE to work in a waste management factory or CHOOSE to hand-pick thousands of mushrooms or oranges or anything else a day?
Just because a set of laws only held place a few thousand years ago doesn't mean it wasn't a good set of laws. I mean sure, the whole idea of " if he floats, he's not guilty " should be reformed, but the general idea of eye for an eye is a very good one. And it is not against humanity to kill. Everyone should know this by now. Humans were meant to kill in order to survive, such is life. It only makes sense that humans would kill other humans in order for more to live peacefully. PS: Canada's health care is alot worse than America's plus it takes longer to get major surgery done. Sure it's free, but I'd rather pay a few thousand doesn't to fix my leg than have a decent chance of losing it. I'm saying this because, if a government does too much for its people, the people suffer. If the government put more into rehabilitation, the rest of their programs would suffer. Not just defense and military.
It's my experience that video games CAN affect more of your extreme behaviors. If you are already very aggressive, a violent game could enhance that aggression. I don't believe video games instill behaviors you do not have. If you're a passive person I doubt a game will make you beat the crap out of your best friend.
Insane people, in my opinion, are born of society. A government's people are only as strong as they have been taught to be, only as sane as they have been taught to be. If a person is taught at a young age that killing is right, they will believe that killing is right. While there is a conscience in everyone, some people are taught to suppress it or, more often, are forced to. Often times it is not entirely the criminal's fault they are how they are, it is the people around them's fault. Bottom line; America is full of jerks, and that is why many people die. If everyone were a bit kinder to their cousins perhaps less people would be murdered. EDIT: Keep in mind I am not blaming the government. I am blaming the people within the country as a whole.
For once, I agree with Cin. It's a natural instinct to survive and to survive as comfortably as possible. These people, (we'll use the mexicans as an example) have such horrid lives that they basically HAVE to leave their country, or die. In Mexico the conditions are so poor that you'll have entire families going without food for days, if not weeks. And when they receive food the quality is horrendous. Sure, they have factories lined up along the border where Mexicans can work; but they aren't allowed to use the products. They aren't even paid a forth of our minimum wage to work there.
Alot of people date on here too. There's literally no difference. Myspace has always been a breeding ground for the criminally minded and demented people. Honestly, if you put on your blog that you graffitied some house or that you did some illegal thing, you deserve to get caught. There's almost no difference between yelling out loud in a mall and posting on a public blog.
Take away guns and there will be more stabbings. Take away knives and there will be more bashings. Take away clubs/hammers/random metal poles and there will be more beatings. Take away peoples' hands and noone can live.
I believe the ancient Babylonians had it right.. Eye for an Eye, Tooth for a Tooth. If someone kills, they should be killed. If someone steals, they should lose a hand. If someone rapes, they should be raped. Etc. etc. etc.
o.o... This entire thread is complete BS... Oh, and, America Rocks, Europe Sucks, Global Warming doesn't exist and YOU ALL NEED JESUS.
Pssh. Shoulda taken out the whole state. WEAK!
You may have been ecstatic when you could vote at 18, but most people -really- need to wait until they're 25. Most college students don't even watch the news, they just use what they hear from their friends and what they see on The Daily Show with John Stuart(sp?) and The Colbert Report...
Hope this is a good section. o.o Dad and His Son A father passing by his son's bedroom was astonished to see that his bed was nicely made and everything was picked up. Then he saw an envelope, propped up prominently on the pillow that was addressed to "Dad." With the worst premonition he opened the envelope with trembling hands and read the letter. Dear Dad, It is with great regret and sorrow that I'm writing you. I had to elope with my new girlfriend because I wanted to avoid a scene with Mom and you. I have been finding real passion with Stacy and she is so nice. But I knew you would not approve of her because of all her piercing, tattoos, tight motorcycle clothes and the fact that she is much older than I am. But it's not only the passion...Dad she's pregnant. Stacy said that we will be very happy. She owns a trailer in the woods and has a stack of firewood for the whole winter. We share a dream of having many more children. Stacy has opened my eyes to the fact that marijuana doesn't really hurt anyone. We'll be growing it for ourselves and trading it with the other people that live nearby for cocaine and ecstasy. In the meantime we will pray that science will find a cure for AIDS so Stacy can get better. She deserves it. Don't worry Dad. I'm 15 and I know how to take care of myself. Someday I'm sure that we will be back to visit so that you can get to know your grandchildren. Love, Your Son John PS. Dad, none of the above is true. I'm over at Tommy's house. I Just wanted to remind you that there are worse things in life than the report card that's in my center desk drawer. I love you. Call me when it's safe to come home...
Likewise. If we start taking away the key freedoms, we wouldn't be the United States of America anymore... We'd be the Communist States of America.
If everyone had guns there'd be less shootings. People would think twice about trying to shoot up a school full of people with just as many guns as you.
I agree. In a democracy where you elect your own leader, the government is only as weak as its people. If we get a bad leader, it's because we elected him. And if you don't vote, you can't complain about the government at all because you did nothing to change it. Those are my views, anyway... I don't even think 18 year olds should be able to vote. Maybe.. 25+.
