No offence, but I really don't see how those examples you have given shows that Disney has no control over what Nomura does. It really depends on who is creating the characters, whether they are working for Disney or not. And I'm pretty sure that Disney does have some say over the characters that Nomura creates and/or uses, such as who he can kill off - and Kairi is part Disney, isn't she? He has said before that there were things that he wanted to do in the game but could not because Disney would not let him.

And to those people who criticise Kairi for being girly - being femine is not a crime. Being feminine does not make one weak - Aeris looked more femine in FF VII but she had a lot of spunk. More than Tifa, who I think was actually the gentle and shy girl, despite the way she dressed.

Not to mention that I actually think that saying that being feminine = bad is just about as sexist as saying that all women should act nice and obedient. It seems to imply that being a girl is a bad thing.

I think that Kairi had a little character development. Not much, but it was there (and I actually think that Xaldin was the least developed character, not Kairi - poor Xaldin felt as if he would not have been there if they did not need a plotline for the Beauty and the Beast world). She was tough in the first game but she was willing to stay behind while Sora fought because she realised her strengths and weaknesses. In the second game, she seems more determined to help her friends and does not want to be left behind.

And I'm willing to give her a chance. I'll only stop giving her a chance if she dies (which I don't think is very likely unless she gets ressurected) and it's clear that there is going to be no further sequel or prequel involving her or the series ends and Kairi has had little or no more character development by then. And I'd do the same for any other character.

If I don't give Kairi (or any other character) a chance then I think I will probably be horribly biased against her if she actually does get good character development in the later series. And we're not the game designers, so who knows?

Wasn't Disney the reason that KH was born in the first game? Didn't it come about because Square and Disney found out that they both worked in the same building?

If it weren't for Disney, KH would be just another FF game. KH has some quite dark moments and Disney helps make the game really light-hearted at times. That, and Disney brings back some really nice childhood memories.

That, and KH actually turned me back into a Disney nutter.

I think a ride or two and some of the cast members appearing at Disney parks would be fine for me, but I wouldn't actually want an actual seperate Kingdom Hearts theme park.

I think that Sora did make one appearance at a Disneyland theme park once. I saw a photo of it somewhere and he looked really scary.

    I second this. Very strongly.

Christopher Lee is British and he played Diz. I think it might depend on where the actor lives, how much time he (or she) has and whether he would be willing to do to job or not.

And Luxord's actor, according to a few sites, is apparently British as well.

I wasn't sad, even though I love Goofy to bits - probably because I knew he was alive. I once read an article years ago which said that Nomura was restricted on what Disney characters he could actually kill off, anyway. I don't think that Disney would allow him to kill Goofy off.

The Tweeny Witches, which we are watching at the anime club. To me, it's just really dull.

I was also a little disappointed in Gunparade March. It wasn't a bad show but I expected something like a bit of a darker plot and more actions (especially because of the aliens) but most of it seemed to scream, "High School!" to me.

This makes me feel really old when I say this because I feel like going, "Back in my day.."

However, am I the only one who used to miss some of the really old Disney cartoons that used to appear on the Disney Channel, the Disney Club (when it existed in the UK) and other Disney-related channels/programmes?

Which 1990s Disney shows did you like? I'm interested. Here's a list of ones I really liked:

Goof Troop (I didn't see much of it although I liked what I saw)
    Darkwing Duck
    Gummi Bears
Talespin (again, not watched much of it but enjoyed it anyway)
    Bonkers
    Duck Tales

    Major spoilers in the post

Guys, what on earth are you talking about? Riku/Solid Snake is the true canon pairing of Kingdom Hearts! Lollol I know that Snake isn’t the game or even a Square or Disney character but he would totally be attracted to Riku’s hair! And that counts as canon! So we all must ship that pairing now and all other pairings are invalid. And all those who disobey will be shouted insults like “Sexist!”, “Homophobe” and others. :stupid:

Now, the rest of this post is actually going to be serious..

Where does he say that? Could you link please? I do remember him saying in the KH II Ultimania interview that he didn’t like to spell everything out for the gamers and wanted to leave room for their imagination. However, I don’t ever remember him specifically saying that no pairings were canon.

Although either way that doesn’t mean he didn’t intend a romance between Riku/Sora.

Nomura might have wanted a cute love story between Sora and Riku in the game but only kept it to hints and didn’t put anything too obvious in order not to put off parents from letting their children play the game or lose a large portion of the male fanbase (as yaoi and shounen-ai is mostly a girl’s genre). Alternatively, he may have no intention to pair them up as a romantic couple and therefore anything suggestive coming out of any lines and actions in regard to Sora’s and Riku’s relationship with each other would have been completely unintentional.
Sora/Kairi? Well, it's possible that the hints there could be unintentional with things like Sora imagining himself dancing with Kairi or Roxas calling Kairi “that girl he [Sora] likes”, I don’t think it’s very likely that Nomura unintentionally put subtext for Sora/Kairi unless he wrote the script really badly. Therefore, I think that it's likely that Sora/Kairi will actually properly become a canon couple in the future. However, he also might be tricking into thinking that Sora and Kairi are going together or might even change his mind about a Sora/Kairi romance and pair Sora up with someone else. You never know.

I don’t think it really matters anyway. A pairing that’s canon does not make it better or worse than any other pairing. Fan fiction should be about what you want to see happen, right? I think any pairing can work believably IC, although some pairings might be more difficult to write well than others, depending on how much interaction the characters had and how much they like/dislike each other (I’ve come across somebody who likes pairing enemies together because she finds it a challenge).

You like Riku/Kairi? Great, I like that pairing too! Axel/Roxas? I like that one as well. You ship Leon/Yuffie? Well, I’m not personally keen on that pairing but if you like it then more power to you! You ship Kairi/Max Goof? Very unusual, since Max has yet to appear in a Kingdom Hearts game (although I think he should but that’s another story) but if you can find a way to make it work, I’m sure it would make a very interesting story.

    Spoilers

I read in an interview with Nomura and some of the other staff that you would find out about what happened to Riku in Coded and where Mickey went. They also said in another interview that Riku would be shown in a battle between Roxas and Riku and another scene. I'm hoping that they aren't telling the complete truth (from memory, Nomura lied about there not being a KH II Final Mix so we never know) otherwise....Nomura, you can't do this to me! You just can't! :yelling:

Well, that's sad but never mind. There's plenty of time for trailers to be released before the actual game is released. On the bright side, there's an article which might well be worth looking at.

I think that his physical qualities might motivate others – I think it motivated Sora to try and become physically stronger – maybe appearing confident might motivate others as well. Personally, I really don’t think that he was as confident as he appeared. He seemed actually quite insecure to me. I actually thought that Sora was the more confident one.

I think he was. He was willing to help others, knew who to trust (he rightfully knew that Namine was sorry and forgave her and was also willing to forgive Riku). He helped others. He also could cheer other people up and was confident in the decisions he made. He was some influence to Riku – Riku said, “I wished I could live life the way you do. Just following my heartâ€.

No pairings really confuse me. There are pairings that I'm not too fond of such as Roxas/Namine but I'll enjoy a fic containing that pairing if the fic is good. Since it's fan fiction, I don't see why people should get concerned with how canon a pairing is (although I'll draw the line at OOC). You don't need a basis for putting two (or more) characters together in fan fiction. The fun of fan fiction is seeing how characters would react in different situations and pairings count as different situations.

However, I do agree that it might be more difficult to put two (or more) characters together and write it convincingly if the characters have little interaction with each other/seem to have conflicting personalities/dislike or hate each other/don't interact at all. But that doesn't make it impossible.

The actor in the first game was Sean Astin, who played characters such as Sam in Lord of the Rings. He didn't do Hercules in the original film.

The actor in the second game is Tate Donovan, who did voice Hercules in the original Disney film.

Personally, I think that both actors did decent jobs.

Actually, I can imagine Riku being one those people who goes for a long time without being in a relationship and being happy like that. He is insecure and that could cause problems for him being in a relationship because he might be afraid that he would harm somebody. Not every person actually wants a partner.

Although I can imagine any fanfic scenario with Sora and Riku going together and Kairi supporting them at the side and a fanfic scenario with Riku and Kairi going together and Sora supporting them as well (although I think he might be a bit hurt first before he accepts their relationship).

I'd be freaked out and think that it was a dream or I was hallucinating.

And I don't think that the KH characters would want to meet me, because they might find it rather creepy and disturbing that I know so much about them! XD

    What I think?

    Spoilery, I think

I think that Kairi has some sort of role, even if her appearance is small. But I think that part of the story might have something to do with the Princesses of Heart. Why?

    - In Another Report, Nomura says that when a world is destroyed, time stops for those people in that world.
    - The Sleeping Beauty world was shown and some people speculate that the Cinderella world might be there as well (apparently one of the screenshots shows a castle which looks remarkably similar to the castle in the Cinderella film).

I think that Birth By Sleep might partly explain how of the Princesses of Heart were captured (if Aurora's and Cinderella's worlds were destroyed, time would have stopped for them and therefore they might not have aged for several years), therefore giving Kairi some role in the plot. We might even find out where she came from.

Well, it's a thought, anyway. I'm not sure how Aqua would fit into this, though, so my theory might be a little flawed.

I'm not sure if I should call this a spoiler but just in case..

I wouldn't call them a canon 'couple' yet (since they aren't officially together) but with the evidence in the game, it's probably likely they will become one in the future KH games, unless Square surprises us or only wants to keep the Sora/Kairi romance as strong hints or unintentionally made us think that there was something going on between Kairi and Sora due to bad writing (which I think is extremely unlikely).
