Well, we've been discussing this question a lot in my AP English Language class lately. Almost everyone is familiar with the book The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn (HF). Well.. many people belive that HF is racist, because it uses the word n!gger a lot in the text (abt 215X). It's also considered racist for its dialogue as well.. Example: Huck's Aunt Sally asks him why he is so late arriving at her house. "We blowed a cylinder head." "Good gracious! Anybody hurt?" "No'm. Killed a n!gger." "Well, it's lucky; because sometimes people do get hurt." This dialogue shows that slaves weren't really considered to be people..... but does it really make HF racist? IS HF AND TWAIN RACIST?? What makes/doesn't make both HF and Twain racist??? why??? I really dont think that they are racist... the story takes place in the ante-bellum south... most of what twain wrote in HF was satire... and the dialogue... well it would be considered as "casual dialogue" from the south.
ehh... this is so gamemaster1598 and i can talk. ^_^ and i really am a nutcase... and he knows that... O_O hahaha ay... w/e
:woohoo: :woohoo: I finished my SAT's!!!! :woohoo: :woohoo: the world seems so much BRIGHTER!! >_< 5 hours of testing.... up yours you EVIL SAT MONSTER THING!!!
Yesterday I was watching a show on the human brain and its decision making abilities, and this psychological test problem came up, which I found to be very interesting.... along w/ what people actually replied w/.......... SCENARIO 1: Imagine a situation where there is a runaway trolley. Just a few feet ahead, there are 4 construction workers working on the tracks. The trolley comes, and *splat*.... all 4 are dead. But you can save them, by pulling a lever to change the trolley's direction, but on the other side, there is 1 construction worker. If you pull the lever, the trolley changes its direction and saves the 4 workers, but it kills the worker on the other side. SO WHAT WOULD YOU DO? WOULD YOU PULL THE LEVER? WHY? SCENARIO 2: Same situation from above.... Runaway trolley.... few feet away, 4 construction workers. Trolley comes and they WILL die... but you have a choice.... this time... the track is under a bridge, and there is a man on the bridge... and he's FAT (I donno why that was important but it's a fat guy). You can save the 4 workers by pushing the guy off the bridge so he can stop the trolley from advancing, thus saving the 4 workers. WHAT WOULD YOU DO NOW? WOULD YOU PUSH THE FAT GUY? WHY?
