Changed the gradient map to soft light at 50% and added a second curves layer.

I tend to just stick with 'Lighten' when I use gradient maps or else the shadows/lights make my eyes bleed. I've actually got a curves layer in there already. xD

Made 3 more versions. Just very minor adjustments is all.


I moved the lighting over from her chest to her left shoulder and moved the flare next to the text just a tiny bit.


I moved the flare from her shoulder to the top near her head.


Added a black and white gradient map and a small white border.

That's decent for your first attempt in photoshop. I strongly recommend using good quality images in your sig, it will improve the overall look a lot (a site I suggest is this one, you just need to sign up and voila). As for the red bits, I think smudges of red blended into the background to look like they're flowing out of him would look a lot better too.

It's good that you're experimenting, and like Luxord said, have a look at some tutorials to help improve your skills. Try DeviantArt or the Help/Tutorial sub-section in this section.

Some people may come across as being mean/cruel when they post their opinions in this section but they're seriously just trying to help.

Just try and use photoshop. I'm not a fantastic teacher when it comes to this stuff but if you want, I can help you get better with Photoshop. I'm pretty sure anyone who lurks this section could if you asked them.
