Unbelievable.
Yeah I know, I fooled you all and never meant it. But that lousy boss I had at work only got worse, so it was a matter of waiting out the rest of my contract so I could move home from China. Plus time differences and schtuff. I need to make a photography thread somewhere here so you guys can see the pictures. I took a short vacation in September to Beijing and climbed the Great Wall, among other things.
That's good of them. Not many honest sellers these days, so it's great that they'll take a look at it. Hopefully it works out!
That's better, I was bluescreening for a second and going "hurr?". Now, let's see. Did you try cleaning the pins? Just use a cotton swab to make sure any dust is out of them. I'd also make an effort to contact whoever sold you the games on eBay and explain what is going on.
What's your computer brand and model number? Most manufacturers will list on their sites or in product listings if the RAM is capable of being expanded. What you've listed isn't quite helpful for me.
This part confuses me a bit... Otherwise I'm reminded of the days when the save batteries in the cartridges on the GBC games would go, and you couldn't save at all. I wonder if it's the same thing? Otherwise try cleaning the pins on the carts and the pins inside your system(s) and make sure nothing's blocking the connections. If that doesn't work, and your other games work in both your systems, then it's the carts themselves. The darker side of me wonders if they are fakes, but most DS/Lites will play fakes while DSi and 3DS don't. Since you said it didn't play in your Lite, it's probably a really faulty cart (and an equally faulty seller, perhaps.)
I know.. a second time I've posted one of these threads but the last one was almost four months ago. Anyway, just a heads up that I'm back on American soil, working at another private school for better pay than China, and busy with a successful art business, budding love life, and con schedule (to go with that craft/art business junk). I bought the first volume of KH: 358/2 Days manga and it reminded me of this place. Figured I'd check on errybody.
Absol
If I'm not teaching classes I'm usually lesson planning or doing something in my classroom. We're allowed to use Pandora for music, so there's always that. Otherwise sometimes I write, other times I'm working on my Chinese. My boss is a nut so she'll sometimes come in unannounced and go "Oh my God, I just HAVE to show you this thing right now!" yesterday it was how she could doodle all over our SMART board and the window would change size as she drew. Sure helps the time fly.
Usually I end up selling stuff on eBay like trading cards or other things I don't need anymore. The bulk of my earnings come from art commissions on deviantART and another art gallery.
Hey...anyone remember me? I kind of dropped off the face of the planet several months back, maybe even earlier than that. Basically here's why: -Boston Marathon hit too hard and too close to home for me -Same day that happened, someone I thought I could trust tried to corner me in his apartment so that I could "satisfy a month-long need" of his (he didn't win, I don't think he planned on me fighting back). It's left me feeling very insecure, unsure of myself, and basically all around disgusted. Might make a HwL thread. It's quite mature though, so I may not. -I dropped 30 pounds in two months -Work decided to triple my work load, expecting far too much and giving me a tenth of the resources I needed to be able to do it properly (this is a company wide problem) -I've switched positions - I'm no longer teaching the kids anymore because of the stress and workload but I'm now more of an event coordinator which is far more fun and involved -The stress managed to trigger the IBS and acid reflux I thought I had under control and I required treatment (which took forever to get accomplished because my coworkers thought TCM is best medicine...I'm sorry, but putting a white herb patch on my side is not going to stop my throat from eroding, thanks) On the plus side I have two months left here in China before I fly home. Yet that is causing it's own stress as well, as it now means packing everything, getting the ease taken care of, and a myriad of other things before I fly. I'm going to try to stick my nose here more often, but the truth is lately more things have been sucking up my time and energy. So if I disappear again, that's why.
You've played Trauma Center on Wii? I was always nervous to try it out because I have a hard enough time on the DS, couldn't imagine using the Wii's controls for that at all. That aside, my absolute favorites have to be Super Mario Galaxy 1 and 2. The music is what really did it for me, but I honestly got so lost in those worlds I truly did lose track of time. I also played some of Skyward Sword but didn't get to finish it before I flew to China.
My friend that was running the race sent me a lovely picture this weekend. They did a special five mile run for the remaining runners who didn't get to finish the race, and she ran in it an got her medal. She wore all of her BAA uniform while she ran. I'm so happy for her, it was such a bittersweet photo but he first thing she told me when I got a hold of her after the explosions was how angry she was that "I didn't get to finish the race."
Small update: it seems there's now 3 dead (youngest is actually 8 years old) and over 140 were injured. A friend sent me a link to an imgur album of pictures that I will not link to here, they are way NSFW and far too graphic for you youngin's, but I'll say this: that video they keep playing of the runner falling over after the first explosion is sugar coating it five times over compared to what I've been looking at. My ex sent me a picture of himself at the finish line just a mere 20 mins. before the first one went off. He's fine, as is my roommate who's now safely at home and resting (somewhat, can't imagine much sleep is going to happen tonight). I pulled up her stats on the BAA website; she was literally in the last 2 miles of the race before they stopped her to clear the route after the explosion.
Where's the canker sore exactly? It could really be more of a friction sore caused by your wisdom tooth rubbing against your cheek, I get those from time to time an especially on the left side of my mouth since the tooth up there is more crooked than the other (I have 2, on top). That said, I'd hate to say it but I'm gonna side with your Mom and say pull 'em. The longer you wait, the tougher it will be to recover from them (I know I'm in deep trouble when they finally pull mine because I'm too "old" to have it done the proper way). Because you're still rather young, you'll recover a bit quicker. And honestly, it's scary, but you will be asleep for most of it, and won't remember a thing later. I took my brother to get all 4 of his yanked, drove him home, he went to go take a nap and woke up the next day and asked me what he ate for dinner (nothing) because he couldn't remember. And they say no solid foods or drinks with a straw, but soft stuff can still be eaten. My brother was eating pasta by day 3 because we always cook it just a bit longer so it is tender. We also got him to try some different soups, hummus, and that sort of stuff. And in reality, if you keep your teeth as long as you can and then you get a cavity, no dentist is going to just fill a wisdom tooth, they'll tell you to remove it.
I'm glad your dad got home safe cstar. My college roommate was running in it this year, her first ever, and thankfully she's safe, but seeing all the posts down my Facebook wall and the news here in China was showing, I honest to God burst out crying. Boston's my backyard, my home. I have this lobster doll I took overseas with me that my best friend also has, and just squeezed the thing to death. I think I'm going to stay offline for a while...
Right. I just forget about the time zone difference. You'd think after 8 months I'd be able to figure it out.
Alright, I'll head over there and check them out. Sorry I got sidetracked a bit.
Another video, except this one has it breaking the sound barrier (may want to turn your sound down, this scared the crap out of me the first time)
I'm going to jump in on top of Misty's post somewhat and share my own experiences. For reference, I live(d) in Massachusetts (I say lived because I'm overseas for the next year). My first real full-time job out of college was at a daycare in the city. Despite that said job required a minimum of a bachelor's degree just to get hired, I started at $8.50/hour. I worked from 8:30-5 Mon-Fri, sometimes getting overtime if there was a center meeting I had to attend or my coworker didn't come in, forcing me to stay late and close the classroom (often). But for the sake of some math I'm going to leave the overtime out of this. That's 7.5 hours, not including the hour lunch break. So 37.5 hours/week. Company considered that full time. I made $1275 a month, $15300 a year. By the end of the year at least 2k would be taken out in taxes both state and federal. So that leaves me with $13300. But state laws require residents to have health insurance or we get fined, so each monthly check saw me lose $200 between my health plan and dental plan. So that's another $2400 gone by the end of the year. Leaving me with $10900 for the year, around $900 a month. Now, let's go over some costs. The city I worked in was at best a 45 minute drive away. So and hour and a half each day, times 5. Even with a 36 mpg car, I needed a fuel up each week. Before I left for China prices were hovering around $3.68/gallon. Tank holds just about 12 gallons. So that's $44 a week. I never let my tank drop to E, so in reality I'd fill it with 7 gallons or perhaps 9. So more like $33 a week. Times that by 4, you get $132. Out of my $900 a month remainder, this would leave me with $768. Housing here is ridiculous. For a single room studio apartment with one bedroom and combined living spaces most would ask for a minimum of $600 a month and up, minus utilities and other fees like groundskeeping. An even smaller space (akin to a dorm room) start at $550 (By comparison, the place I have in China, a 1 bed room place with combined living and dining room, kitchen area and a full bathroom is being rented for the equivalent of $350/month). If I went with the $600 space, that leaves $168 to try and divide between food, electricity, water, heat, phone line, etc. Doable, but not easy. And because I made $15300 before all the cuts, I couldn't apply for assistance such as food stamps or housing assistance, because I was above the poverty line. Long story short, I worked there for two years, ended up staying home with my parents because I honestly couldn't afford to move out, built up a nest egg for myself, then fled to China when the opportunity arose. TL;DR - So if I could barely scrape by with less than a dollar tacked on to minimum wage (because I had a degree), then perhaps it is time for it to be raised again.
