One day, one day...
I made a joke about this in a different thread where I like, took a picture of an emoji and stuck it at the end of my sentence cause KHV doesn’t seem to keep them in the posts if you put one in, but I’m actually curious now: Is there a reason IPhone emojis don’t work when posting and replying to threads? Basically what happens to me is that I’ll use an emoji and it’ll just disappear by the time I post it. I don’t know if this happens for Android as well, but it’s definitely happening for me on my iPhone. I guess this is part help + part a suggestion since I’m wondering if it would possible to get them to work, as well as what is stopping them from working right now? Like what’s making them disappear?
Yeah that’s pretty much what I’m wondering. Technology seems like a weird place to put them though because it would be about like... people, if that makes sense. Discussion could work but I’ve always seen the discussion section as for more “serious stuff”. Maybe a YouTube prefix for the media section would work better instead of an entire section?
I was thinking about this while looking in movies / media, but it strikes me as weird that even though YouTube is such a big part of online culture and online media, we don’t have a subsection for it. (Or even that many posts about it but I’ll get to that) Basically my idea is that we have a YouTube subsection within one of the other sections (like within the media section), and within that section you’d talk about specific YouTubers, their newest uploads etc. For example right now I’m pretty much obsessed with this YouTuber SailorJ ( https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCJOzFn6EU1wxQlEhbor14RA/featured?disable_polymer=1 ) so I’d make a thread about her with something like “SailorJ is an up and coming YouTuber who posts videos poking fun at Makeup YouTubers and is best known for videos such as ‘how to be a hufflepuff’, ‘how to be a Pisces’...” and so on. I know we can put individual videos in the spam zone, but I imagine these threads like say, the RWBY thread where people were always sorta updating it with new news and info about most recent “episodes” etc. There are also a lot of YouTube content that is serialized to an extent as if they were “episodes”, like Roosterteeth podcasts and letsplays and whatnot. The only thing is though I don’t know if anyone actually wants this. A lot of KHV members are a little older and may have grown out of their YouTuber obsessed phase lol, so that’s why I’m asking.
I’d put the eyes emoji but KHV doesn’t support my iPhones crap...
I was thinking about this recently cause I’m having trouble sleeping (this isn’t really a help with life thing though), but in your experience is it better to get another hour of sleep, or just go through it all together? Here’s some examples: - When you’re pulling an all-nighter, is it better to get one hour of sleep or push all the way through to the end? (So you were awake for 11 hours slept for 1 and then were awake 12 hours) - Your alarm wakes you up around an hour before you have to get up, do you sleep the hour or just wake up - If you have to commute is it worth it to sleep an hour on the train and then wake up and go about your day? I’m a number 2 & 3 example. I’ll always wake up at say, 5AM if I have to be up at 6AM, and if I happen to fall asleep I don’t know if I actually feel better rested because I’m just pulled out of sleep again. Same with on the train So I wanna know what y’all recommend: do you take the extra hour when you can get them, or do you just push through and not do the hour power nap because you’ll just be more tired?
This is legit stressing me. Like not in a bad way but in the way where you’re watching the Bachelor and you don’t know who’s going to win the Rose
I probably should have been most straight forward with you but I didn’t wanna be too confrotional about it. It was more of a “Lmao this is uncomfortable”. I’m glad though that I’m wrong and you do talk to the others when you need to, but I think you put too much of the responsibility on yourself sometimes XD like take a break, let the others deal with it. And I don’t think it would have been out of turn at all imo. Like that’s exactly what I needed to hear - that you disagreed of that makes sense. Because if you were like “Nah Cal I don’t think it’s bad” I would have been like “oh okay just checking”, cause usually when I see something and I’m like “yikes”, I’ll casually slide into the DMs and be like “hey what’s with this?” So like, in short please confront XD. I need the confront and I think a lot of people prefer clear and bluntless rather then trying to avoid the “out of turn” stuff. Like as a user I’d rather people just say what they actually think of something (and so if you disagreed to say you disagree), and like, I would hope the mods on my server would be straight forward with me too lol. To be fair I guess I wasn’t entirely clear either and I should have just said I was wondering if something was/had to be done or not so maybe I gotta take my own advice. Thank you for being up front.
I mean it was always about the response but that’s not neither here or nor there. In terms of improvement, I gave some ideas in the “Why I Left” thread. Here’s my suggestion for improvement because ultimately that’s what I want this to be used for: Staff members shouldn’t feel so pressured like they have to do everything by themselves. That’s sort of the vibe I’m getting, and whether that’s right or not, I don’t know. But if you’re super busy as a staff member you shouldn’t feel like you’re pressured to reply right away cause that can get sloppy when you’re multitasking / under pressure. I’d suggest, “let me check it out and get back to you later” or “I told X staff member about it and they’ll be happy to talk about it with you but I’m sorta busy.” So that’s my first piece of advice: right now it doesn’t seem like there’s the confidence for staff members to say to each other “hey X I’m kinda busy can you take care of X member Pming me?” Etc. Again that’s the vibe I’m getting, I could be completely wrong and that’s not what’s happening at all, but from a user perspective that’s what I see. More then that, formulated responses would probably help. Not like, robotic or anything but if y’all have a standard “I looked through the post you sent and it is/isn’t against the rules, thanks for bringing it to my attention!” Cause that’s pretty clear / straight forward. If you guys make a thread with if X... say Y, it won’t work perfectly for everything but I think it would definitely help someone out, especially if they’re in a rush. For my server I have a guide like that and for new staff members it helps a lot. So redirecting a member to a different staff member, and trying to create a response guide someone can reference if they don’t know what to do. I can’t say the response guide will work for KHV, but I know a couple discord servers that have it and it tends to make things 10x easier.
I agree, I mean I don’t think he personally meant any harm from it, which is why I was more focused on the response I got from the staff. If they said exactly what you just did and “it’s not against the rules don’t worry about it Cal” that’d be perfect. But this whole interaction has been a little confusing lol.
That’s fair enough, but equally since the staff are under a microscope right now, I’d also think being careful and making things as clear and straight forward as possible would help. But I really appreciate the open dialogue now, I think it’s super important.
I’ve never had a CD or DVD break on me yet, but I’m super sad that a bunch of games are one day going to be lost forever because no one bothered to put them online. Or even old movies if we’re talking about DVDs. Like some stuff is going to go extinct which is crazy to me. We can keep poems all the way from Ancient Greece alive but some TV shows and other stuff no one bothered to record and put online instead of a disc are gonna get lost forever
But doesn’t really have anything to do with morals, because it’s not the actual phrase that’s the point. If the staff member replied that it didn’t break the rules I would be fine with that and agree with you. But how the response read to me was “yeah it breaks the rules but it’s not important enough for me”, I think it’s easy to see how that’s problematic. Like I said it was “to detract from from the big staff issue by getting side tracked by talking about racism” But if it’s not racism and therefore not against the rules, then there’d be nothing to talk about outside of saying to “Nah Cal that’s not against the rules don’t worry about it”
So if you guys didn’t know, Black Mirror is a sci-fish British(?) TV show that deals with technology in stuff. One the episode has a system where it pairs you up with someone and you’ll only stay together as long as the time tells you. For example, you may get this View attachment 48614 If you want to test to see how long you got with your partner or with someone on KHV, click on this https://coach.dating/ There is a little trick to get forever, but you’ll only know it if you watch the show! Hunter and I got this View attachment 48615
I’ll let him know! Thank you so much
Like I said, I wasn’t trying to call out Llave. It was about the staff member and their reply to me. If I just went after Llave and it wasn’t related at all I would feel you, but the response I got was directly related to the issues that B was bringing up with the staff thread in the feedback section. At the end of the day it isn’t about him, it’s the response that was in response to what he said. It could have easily been something else that moderators usually take care of and if the response was the same, it’d be as concerned. In terms of the newbie thing, if a newbie on my discord says something like that, we don’t “go after” them. We just message them and say “hey maybe don’t say that” and explain why they shouldn’t. Even if we’re dealing with another problem, I have 5 moderators and it would be quick to deal with. If one of my staff members gave the response I got when a member came to them about a concern, I wouldn’t be happy with them at all. And this isn’t any shade but our server is way busier then KHV and we’re able to keep up with stuff like this. I know it’s different but I hate seeing a problem be created out of something that’s an easy fix, ie “I’m a little busy right now but I’ll pass it onto another moderator!”
OKAY so real quick: I didn’t draw ANY of these I just wanted to show you. My thumbnail artist Howl made all of them for me, but he’s not on KHV and I didn’t know where else to post them. Anyway you can find him here: https://www.instagram.com/lucasofhowl View attachment 48604 View attachment 48605 View attachment 48606 View attachment 48607 View attachment 48608 View attachment 48609 View attachment 48610 View attachment 48611 View attachment 48612 Also he actually used @Marushi ’s Secret Santa gift of the picture she drew of me for some guidance (which I think is also so cute)
I agree but why can’t CATS and DOGS be bae together View attachment 48599 I was going to post a picture of my dog too but I don’t have any pictures of my dog. I guess that exposes me and where my aligence lies Edit: View attachment 48613 It only took me 30 minutes but don’t shade me
If liking cats over dogs is wrong I don’t want to be right Arch
It was less offended and more like “yikes is that against the rules”? Cause I didn’t think it was, but if it is that’s something I’d like to know etc. And when the response I got was “well yeah but I got to deal with other stuff” that’s where I got “mad”. No ill will to Llave, he just accidentally became an example when I asked a question. Now I realize it may have not looked that way, and like I was attacking him for what he said rather then quoting him for context to what the staff member had said in response to.
