    Pathfinder is a rip-off/improvement on D&D 3.5, so it's VERY similar.

Since I'm dead serious, it also bears mentioning that the basic concepts of your joke do ring true. I've noticed in my time that a lot of people won't plan multiple encounters or other numerical obstacles in the same timeframe and just split them up by "long rest" or day. This actually runs counter to the balancing mechanisms in place for systems like D&D especially. This is because various classes have staying power as a weakness. Casters are the easiest to spot since they have limited castable spells based on time. So the idea of wearing down the party to allow different members to shine at different times and create various other decision making paths is good. Basically, on the one hand you need to be aware of the levels of player damage intake capacity, but on the other you need to also be able to view challenges in terms of how many resources they force you to expend and how permanent the resource damage is. For example, a trap that melts armor causes critical, permanent resource damage without doing physical status damage. The wisdom here is, stop reading, seriously why are you still listening to me.

I personally think hazards are very your mileage may vary because in D&D at least death comes super quick and hindering people is great and all but damaging people is silly especially in 5e where CON literally has no effect on death saving throws from hitting 0 HP. Then there's the fact that you have no natural intermediate between standing and fighting and being less than 30 seconds from death. There is non lethal damage but that's a branching path than the opponent has to choose. So be aware of your system when you put in traps because it really matters. Like GURPS has limb crippling, reeling, consciousness and various death checks between actual mortality; Fate has the concept of Stress & Consequences; and SPELL has score reduction via Spirit Damage. That's more game design wisdom for you, not everything is portable.

Okay, if you're interested in maps I recommend drawing them yourself obviously, but natural areas or mazes can be randomized so you can outsource some of it to: http://donjon.bin.sh/
I also think you should think in three dimensions and include drops and climbs to every map that actually has height. This makes visibility harder sometimes but it's a fair tradeoff as far as I'm concerned.

I'm already in 2 campaigns right now so I'm not really interested in joining anything else. However, I do have some recommendations. If you're going to do a system like GURPS or D&D you pretty much need a map that everyone can see updating in real time for combat, otherwise you are likely to run into time and comprehension trouble. Maptool and roll20.net at the obvious solutions here for this. I think maptool is better despite the setup time and learning curve but both do incorporate die rolling features meaning that's covered. If you're going for a softer system like Fate or SPELL you don't need a map. In which case I don't have any recommendations for in chat dice rollers because I'm a cartographile and I always make maps and thus need tools to share them that all come with dice rollers. Basically, I can't help you.

Quit your job if it's hurting your soul. I did last week and the last 2 days off have been highly mediocre.

    Eh.

    He's such a pathetic kid.
Last to be picked on the team.
    But I'm not sympathetic kid,
    For your low self esteem.
'Cause you get what you deserve,
    From beginning to end.
So when I say you about to get served,
    It's nothing personal, friend.
