This is going to take a lot more work than just translating if you want it to be better than the 1.5 version. They have the advantage of having 16:9 menu screens. I'm sure if we keep digging at it, we could too achieve the same. But another issue is that this game was made to be 4:3. Using a widescreen hack to show more pixels on the sides is great and all, but if you pay attention to some cutscenes when characters move out of the 4:3 frame they sometimes just instantly disappear instead of continuing to walk. Hah thanks. I actually figured out a hack job way to display 16:9 proportionate tm2s that work in game, but it cuts the resolution tremendously. The ultimate challenge is increasing the resolution of a tm2 without it looking like garbage.
Yeah I tried following it and no offense to him but it's hard to understand broken english :P
Hah, just pretend you never heard it :) That's exactly right. Every movie or every game you see that has black bars were put in on purpose to make it more cinematic. That's why people prefer widescreen movies over fullscreen. Anyway with the whole tm2 thing. Can someone write up a step-by-step process on extracting an image out of a tm2, editing it, and putting it back into a tm2 and seeing it in game without it looking like garbage? I recall someone said something about the filesize being the same, but does that only apply to title.img? Because when I screw around editing copyright.tm2, the size is bigger but i can still see it in game (broken of course)
Final Mix on the PS2 already has that feature. It will let you skip a cutscene if you've already seen it.
-------------------- US Version: Line 1: No! This huge, black THING swallowed me up! Line 2: I couldn't breathe, I couldn'tーー FM Version: Line 1: No! Line 2: This huge, black THING swallowed me up! I couldn't breathe, I couldn'tーー -------------------- I wish it was that easy. Go watch a Let's Play of KHFM and pay attention to the subtitles when Sora wakes up on the island. Not only does "No!" appear first (which I can probably fix) but "This huge, black THING swallowed me up!" and "I couldn't breathe, I couldn'tーー" are a part of the same string in FM. I would have to figure out how to insert a new string with different timing and that's something I have no idea how to do.
Getting back on track: Someone mentioned a few pages back that I haven't uploaded Olympus Coliseum ARDs even if only one cutscene was worked on. I have decided to go through and fully translate them before posting them on the drive. They are much easier than Destiny Islands ARDs so I'm taking a break with DI and switching focus to HE for now. DI ards are such a pain in the butt. There are several instances where the subtitles are split into two strings instead of just one on the US version, and I have no idea how to adjust that so the timing matches up. 1) I'm hoping to be done with HE ards tonight and I'll upload them to the Completed folder once done. 2) I actually have a list of DI strings that are messed up. So once I do the best I can with those strings, I'll toss them in the In-Progress folder. 3) Once those two are done I guess the only thing that's left is the rest of Hollow Bastion excluding the Unknown scene. 4) THEN I get to do the fun process of playtesting everyone's uploaded strings and fixing any broken ones yay!
Makes perfect sense. Also should consider putting some kind of password on the drive or restrict access to only the people working on the project. But at the same time though, I don't think a simple password would stop them if they were adamant in looking for stuff like this.
I'll check it soon. The scene takes place during the beginning of the game while Sora is still on Destiny Islands correct? If that's the case I'll get to it once I'm done with Destiny Islands. The ARDs are done, I'm just playtesting to make sure everything looks as good as it will get. On another note. Would anyone know how to remove the Japanese text below the world logos when you first enter that world? I'm hoping it might be something easy like simply replacing opn.dat for the opening of the game.
I haven't checked your files yet but I have a feeling that you are replacing the entire string from the US version instead of just replacing the words. Based off my testing with Dive to the Heart ARDs, you might need to match the Japanese string and just change the text for cutscenes. But for speech bubbles or message boxes you can use the US strings. I may be wrong though, sometimes cutscenes works with the US strings.
Awesome work man! Just tested with an import folder full of changes on my backup unmodified iso and BAM love it. This is essentially the final step one would do once translation is fully complete. Obviously IMGreplace is still useful for testing individual edits. Which reminds me: Would it be possible for you to make IMGreplace read from the new import folder when testing individual files instead of the export folder? That way I don't have to keep backups of files I replace in the export folder and just have the export folder itself be the backup. Also not totally important but it would be nice if IMGextract had some sort of warning if an export folder already exists. Can't tell you how many times I've accidentally ran that instead of IMGreplace haha.
I'm not sure if it's been asked yet but does anyone own a copy of the japanese version of 1.5 remix? It's been out for a few months now. If we could figure out how to extract it then we can get a good chunk of the porting done before 1.5 hits the US. Hopefully the file structure is similar.
Just an FYI you got some image compression issues with sora's face
Holy crap jaden you are on a roll. Go ahead and add what you uploaded to the changelog so we all know whats being added. Are Disney Castle and Neverland ARDs completely finished or are there some things that still need work? Also have you tested them in game yet just to make sure everything looks good? It's taking me a while to do Destiny Islands because I am a huge perfectionist and the slightest bit of cutscene lag (due to the translation) bugs the crap out of me. I'm also very busy IRL lol.
Uploaded new Dive to the Heart ARDs, go snag em.
Yeah I fixed it along with a few others that were off screen. Will upload soon. Any other error you'll see on the next update is either the fact that the sysfont text is too stretched compared to the US version and you'll notice sometimes the game actually lags for a split second. And the message boxes which is probably located on some other file (or maybe its baked on the video similarly to the japanese subs on opn.dat?) Other than that, Dive to the Heart is done. EDIT: You should probably stick to what the original english text says instead of shortening it. As of right now yes a lot of things are off screen. Once the sysfont.bin is adjusted it will look normal. I think crazycat said he was planning on fixing it some day.
I know exactly where it is, in fact I was working on it when you posted haha. I'm also working on centering issues. The message boxes on the other hand I have no clue how to fix. EDIT: Just read what you posted on the changelog. You said you added info on 1.5. I had already done that and uploaded it so I'm just wondering what else you added.
Uploaded a changelog. From now on it would be nice if we knew exactly what was changed or uploaded using this new spreadsheet.
I just noticed someone modified the btltbl.bin recently. Just curious as to what was changed. We should have a changelog or something.
There are no Japanese subs on the ending scene surprisingly. To check, you can actually rename end.dat to opn.dat and replace it. Obviously you'll want to backup the files you replace so you can swap them back to normal. Once you rename it to opn.dat, you can actually watch the ending cutscene once you hit new game in the title screen.[DOUBLEPOST=1376028425][/DOUBLEPOST] Download Notepad++, it has japanese and other languages build in. It's also one of the primary tools I use to translate. Just an FYI though if you cannot test your translation in game then you'll never know if something you did was wrong or not.
its the english SYS font. EVT is more for ARDs, SYS is for BINs like SLPS or btltbl.
