Very true, some things just require long term medicine. I was talking about the more "gentile" types. I seriously don't think that those who made the DVD are willing to argue, that you shouldn't give drugs to patients with schizophrenia or something like that. That would be just stupid. It's like not giving any medicine to someone with cancer <.<

    So leaving those things aside...
If you start developing tolerance to a drug (and have, let's say, depression), that that just means that:
    a) The psychiatrist didn't help you enough in this time.
    b) You yourself don't want to get cured.

Finally, in everything that human judgment takes place, there's a place to screw up. Not just Psychiatry. It shouldn't be judged alone.

Oh, and one thing... I don't think that Psychiatrists have too much medication.

1st: That stuff effects your brain, and not some viruses. You don't need any help battling your own brain (unless you're thinking of suicide or something like that). Strong prescriptions aren't needed. (Misuse by the actual patients aside)

2nd: Unless you take it for a very long time, you can't have any sort of immunity. Some medicines don't work on some sicknesses, because the BACTERIA are immune to that medication. In Psychology, there's no bacteria to begin with. Again, strong prescriptions are not needed.

3rd: Conventional sicknesses are cured by drugs. Is psychology, drugs are just a help. The real "curing" is up to the psychiatrist and the patient, so there's no "just in case".

All in all, the part about too much psy medicaments is utter c**p.

Scientologists? That's a religion. So you have a DVD made by people biased by religion that try to tell you to not trust psychologist...
...sorry, but that just stinks in my book. It's like they're preparing ground for mind control @_@

I personally had a lot of contact with Psychiatrists about my High School times. I had problems with myself that I couldn't resolve, and almost flunked one grade because of that, but I managed to get out of it. I wouldn't without professional help probably.

I have social phobia. Basically, I feel very bad when surrounded by a lot of people (more then 5 to 10). That combined with a "run away mechanism" that I developed (running away from things unpleasant) made a bad mix.

A Psychologist helped me fight those things and control them, though it didn't cure me completely (I don't think that's possible, really). I did take some drugs (and they had noticeable effect), but it small doses, and I was halting them during holidays and vacation. Right now, I'm not taking them anymore, since I don't hang around in "bad" environments often.

All in all, thank got for good Psychiatrists. My live would be pretty much ruined otherwise...

    @Catch The Rain
True about both. Some medication is seriously overused.
And discrimination started with slavery in ancient Egypt. All Egyptians should DIE!! (...not really :P)
What I want to know, is how Racism got into a film about Psychologists <.<

Happiness is something you find by yourself, and it has multiple "tiers" so to speak.

Right now when I'm writing this, I'm not happy per se, but I'm not sad ether. Having lived the death of my father I know what sadness can be, and being a big gamer, I lived smaller, and bigger happiness moments too. Not to mention passing High School!

Happiness is not something that lasts very long. The "high tier" happiness at least.
By reading a few of your comments, you say that you don't have friends (over the Internet too?), and because of that you're cold. Umm... There's always someone that could be friends with you. I had a friend that has problems with himself. He was very shy, couldn't get himself together, didn't have friends, was stressed and discouraged by a lot of people, not to mention getting picked at. I made friends with him. And I know that it helped him a lot to get some confidence and open up, because the school psychologist said so. That may be your basic problem, but you don't realize it, and search in the wrong places.

People need other people. They really do. And if I'm saying this, then that's something, believe you me.

In other news - a hobby. Something you just like to do. Playing games? Riding a Bike? Driving RC cars? Bungee jumping? Reading books? Listening to music? Playing on an instrument?
That's the second most important thing, right after having relations with other people.

PS: There isn't "true" happiness. If someone's REALLY happy all the time, he's just a new patient of the cook house <.<

I'd like to point out 2 things. If you where immortal, and couldn't bear to see your close ones die then you could:
    1) Decide not to have children.
    2) Go live somewhere far away from those people.

Additionally, would you like to actually see your grand-grandchildren in a youthful state and tell them who you are? Oo?

There are MEANY, MEANY ways to do that. I looked at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Immortality
Obviously, a lot of that page is invalid to us, since it describes the immortality of the soul, religion and afterlife.

The "Causes of death" part at the beginning is interesting. Aging and Disease are easy to overcome by the imagination, but Trauma? Seriously, what if someone would just chop your head off?
The next interesting part, is "Fiction", and among those, Undeath and Regeneration.

There's no one way to be immortal. It all depends on the imagination, and the expectations of the person that's talking about it.

From a legal standpoint you know about the murder, who did it, and are hiding it.
You're doing something agents the law yourself.

But I'm not gonna advice anything, since I don't know the whole situation.

This is fundamental, and it's impossible to answer the question without some thought:

    1) Do you grow old?
If yes, then the immortality would bring you insane pain somewhere around 100 years, do to an old body that's unable to function properly.

    2) Does it only affect natural death (old age, sickness), or any death, including artificial one (accidents).
If any death, then I could theoretically jump off a skyscraper...

    3) Do you feel "The pain of death" (or any other pain for that matter).
    That would hurt! >.<

    4) What's required to attain it?
Genetic modification that works the whole time? Some magic potion that you have to drink once a day or you'll die?

    5) Any added bonuses, like the ability to quickly regenerate from wounds?

My personal "image" of immortality, is a very down to earth one, that very well may be true one day, and that is removing the "reproduction limit" that our body cells have, thus giving them the ability to regenerate forever. Normally, they regenerate slower as you get older, until they stop and you die because your organs stop functioning properly (aka you die of old age). This still has a problem of regenerating brain cells, because they don't have the ability to regenerate at all (they only make more connections between themselves), but I assume this problem doesn't exist for simplicity.

If that's the case, then I would take it. I see nothing that would hinder me in this case.

However, I'd like to make a small point (that's a bit offtopic), that increasing the human life span could very well lead to immense overpopulation, and that would lead to ineviteable wars that would balance out the population "the hard way" (if not eliminate it altogether). As such, you might wonder if we should really seek this king of thing :/

That's exactly why I'm telling you. You in the US get more games, then we in Europe, and you find one game, that doesn't even look like a good game (Zelda fanboysm aside, please), and complain...

I'm a Suikoden fan, and I'll probably newer get to play Suikoden III, possibly the best Suikoden ever, because... I don't even know why!

HA! I can tell you that there are far more games that are in the US but not in Europe. And better games to boot.

I don't keep a list, but games Suikoden 3 and Valkyrie Profile come to mind.

I think he means, that a person saw himself "flying away" from his body, saw God, the light and all that stuff, but he came back soon after that and lived.
Heard 1 or 2 people talk about it on a TV show long ago...

    1) Very true. There are pros and cons to both acing, and not acting... but the cons of acting (minor decrease in GDP growth) far outweigh the cons of not acting (potential end of the world as we know it -_-)

    2) Water power, Hydrogen power, Nuclear power...

    3) Oil and coal is running short actually. The human race is an ever growing entity, and we use up more and more resources as time goes by. Even if we double the resources we excavate, that would only last us a very short time before we start running short again.
Living space it also a very limited resource that's starting to get hard to come by in some places...

There's a video on YouTube about that. It's long, and some might find it boring, but I found it to be very interesting: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F-QA2rkpBSY
