Well, it COULD have been that Axel was still trying to earn Marluxia's trust so he could double-cross him. But it was never mentioned. My REAL answer would be that it was just Axel's personality.

Sora is only strong because of his Keyblade and his allies. If it wasn't for that, he'd be a little weakling. You saw it in Kingdom Hearts where he lost his Keyblade. If Sora and Riku TRULY went one on one, yeah...

You guys thought it was tough? What difficulty are you playing? I found Demyx extremely easy on Proud Mode, especially the water clones. Just lock on to them and use their Reaction Command whenever possible. You can always use Donald's Comet Rain and then go into Wisdom Form and then spam Fira. -Edit- I just attack them and use the reaction command with Explosion.
To be completely honest, I think ANYONE could beat him down.
