I don' t think what happens on the road is the ultimate criteria to judge whether a country is bad or not. Besides, those video were uploaded because they' re impressive, all they show is that a guy was filming at the right place and at the right time, that kind of stuff happens in virtually every country that has roads.

I' ve met an African who spent a year in Russia before he came to France, he told me it was so cold there that they sometimes had to start a fire under the car to help the engine to start. More broadly, cold weather definitely makes driving more dangerous.

Russia aside, my parents have spent holidays in a bunch of foreign countries. From their personal experience Cuba was definitely the scariest place to drive (a mix of lousy roads and "peculiar", as in drunk as fuck, driving behavior).

As for myself I spent a week in Italy when I was a teenager, one of the things that struck me the most was the way most Italians completely ignore the traffic lights, they might as well not even be there. My uncle and aunt spent a week in Italy two years ago, they noticed it too.

I' m just a crazy man, throwing empty bottles at the sea, hoping someone will be able to peek their SOS written with air through the glass. I run away, clinging to life, to noises, puzzled by the distress of all those messages I send. They try to break through but the waves keep bringing them back, showering the rocks with stars.

Yes, but just for 2-3 days and then I gave up. Screwing up my kneecaps and elbows in exchange for the ultimate thrill of riding the mountain as fast as a turtle quickly seemed pointless to me, considering I' ve already learned to ski pretty well.

Actually music is one of the biggest memory trigger, along with smell. Even if you hated that song with a passion, if it was hammered into you chances are hearing it again years later will bring back memories, possibly nostalgia.

Random fact : chocolate contains a molecule close to tetrahydrocannabinol (THC, that thing in cannabis that makes us high). Its effects on our brains are the same as THC (slight euphoria, gives the munchies) although you' d have to eat around 2 kilograms of chocolate to feel as high as if you smoked a joint. Chocolate also affects our brains on ways similar to opioid.

Kitty, you' re a junkie ! Damn you chocoholics ! >:/

I' m afraid praying won' t accomplish anything for you, unless it calms your mind somehow.

That being said, when a doctor proposes to someone who' s being hospitalized and believes in prayer to have people pray for him, it has been proven to have slight positive effects on his health, akin to a placebo effect.

When a doctor proposes to an atheist to have people pray for him It has been proven to have slight negative effects on his health though (basically it makes him think "damn, if the doctor plays the prayer card that must mean there' s not much he can do for me himself" ^^).

If she does believe in prayer then make sure she knows you' ll pray for her (whether you actually do it or not). More broadly, keep in touch with her as much as you can.

I typed democrats instead of republicans, on this forum, yesterday.
I edited my post since, but that had me laughing more than it probably should.
It' s rare for me to let one slip inadvertently, I usually dozen-check and edit my posts.

Unless we grow extinct, yeah, that' s why the evolution of language is often used to illustrate biological evolution metaphorically.

Lol, couldn' t help it. I was taught English prescriptively. I occasionally crossed a few more relaxed expressions here and there and have been punished for using them in my exams, not being a native English speaker it' s harder for me to tell them apart.

Until recently I think the overall convention was written = prescriptive, oral = descriptive. The emergence of cell phones and of the Internet allowed the descriptive language to bleed into written language more than ever before.

Sometimes bad grammar is really phonetic writing (you' re/your), picking the wrong one conveys a meaning that has nothing to do with what you had in mind. Other times bad grammar has nothing to do with the way people speak around you, it just shows you don' t read much.

Because if you get too informal people will have trouble understanding you, which kinda defeats the purpose of language (at least if your goal was to communicate rather than just expressing yourself). If we see mistakes too often we pick them up over time, the same way we pick up accents. That' s what we do, we instinctively emulate the people surrounding us.

I noticed that even journalists make more and more mistakes, so I understand why some would think putting the spotlight back towards prescriptive language is necessary. Protecting that common base is part of protecting our national identity. For instance I know for a fact that Quebec is more allergic to Anglicisms than France, for reasons that are kinda obvious.
