Part of it is because of the culture at the time. The guy who made the first Nightmare movie? This is how he originally wanted it, but because of the culture in the 80's, they made it somewhat comical. Now that things have 'loosend' up a little bit, he's making it more of what he wanted it to be. Though, yeah, I'm not sure I like the fact that Michael Bay is doing this.
