Mish is honorary read #5. I don't believe it's possible for Mish and Marushi to be on the same scum team. I am sure Marushi is Mafia, so Mish is off the table until further notice.

My current reads in case I die, as promised.

My top scum reads are Marushi > Trigger > hyuge > Spike.

Marushi - I am convinced that Marushi is Mafia. Everything in my first case was enough to draw suspicion, but the way she has defended herself makes me even more sure that she is Mafia.

I left out significant pieces of my case to see how Marushi would react. I got what I wanted. I believe the following tidbits are suspicious:

Appeal to Emotion

First off, I want to say for the record that I didn't even know it was possible to feel so much panic at being falsely accused -and I AM being falsely accused, though I know you can't just accept that- and I now have more sympathy for everyone else who panicked when they were. These quotes contain what I call "Appeal to Emotion". Marushi leads her defenses with how 'scared' she 'feels' to appeal to our empathy. She consistently reassures the reader that she is being falsely accused and that this is a terrifying experience. When it comes to her Hatedness, which I did not mention, she pointed out things she has done as looking 'very, very bad' so that she can crucify herself before we do it for her. In closing, she tells us not to "make this mistake", appealing to our fear of taking risks. Everything she has done is an attempt to get us to question our judgment or ignore our misgivings based on feelings. This is a Mafia tell because it doesn't help town in any way, but it does help her.

I don't doubt she is panicking, but I don't believe it is rational for her to panic if she is Town. If we examine the state of things at the time, no one had voted for her and I was alone in my case. On top of that, the case I presented was weak and she could easily deflect it without this emotional pandering if she were Town. Her exaggerated panic shows that she is more nervous than she should be in this position. I believe she panicked because she knows she has things to hide and fears she cannot get out ahead of them in time.

Hyperawareness of Guilt

Feeding on the sentence above, almost the entirety of this post consists of Marushi addressing red flags that I intentionally did not mention in my post. From the way she reacted to Trigger's unvote to the way she handled the Hated situation, she showed an increible amount of self-deprecation and managed to paint nearly everything she had done as bad without me lifting a finger. I believe that a Town person would not self-deprecate their actions like this because they would be confident that they had nothing to hide. In the same vein, they would be prone to missing their own mistakes because they would assume that everything they had done was pro-Town until proven otherwise.

Marushi appears to have no decisions she is not self-conscious about, whether she is questioned about them or not. She failed to correct these slip ups until I said I suspected her, which makes this a night and day turnaround. Only Mafia would be this aware of their own slip-ups, and only Mafia would not try to correct their slip ups for days until challenged.

Hated Role

Very early in the game, someone asked about avoiding Hated people and this conversation happened:

If what Marushi says is true, that she wanted everyone to avoid lyching Hated people, she should have commented on this exchange. Why didn't she? She knew I was confirmed town and knew that I would take her side if she were Town, so this would have been an ideal time to come out as Hated and receive some level of protection. My reasoning for when I asked people to claim Hated applied then just as much as now, and Marushi clearly understood it. My reasoning was:

The Hated should come forward because if the Hated does get hammered while their role is claimed, we can pretty much confirm a Mafia based on the kill. If the Hated gets lynched when their role is not claimed, Mafia can claim ignorance.

Marushi doesn't help her case with what she says about her Hated decisions.

Quite simply put, I took a page out of your book from last game. You consistently "warned" the watcher that he should protect you, while you, being the watcher, watched Beau/Midnight. This way, the Mafia were scared into not murdering you, while you were able to catch it when they went after Beau. My reasons were a little similar, with a bit of reversal. By consistently warning people not to vote "because they might be hated," I could try and keep townies from voting absent-mindedly, while seeing who was willing to take each candidate to the possible hard-lynch state. We have nothing to gain from a hard-lynch early in the day. If Mafia can "accidentally" cause a pop, however, all the better for them.

She mentions how the Mafia could "accidentally" pop a Hated user. Recognize that wording? She has been aware of the reasons to call the Hated to claim since long before I posted them, going all of the way back to the potential soft lynch on The Fuk?.

There is one glaring contradiction in her reasoning. She said: "By consistently warning people not to vote "because they might be hated," I could try and keep townies from voting absent-mindedly". There's just one problem: She knows that she is the Hated person. Assuming she is not Mafia, she and she alone knows that Town have nothing to lose by voting someone who is not her to L-1. She has been warning Townies to avoid lynching Hateds she knows do not exist. That is not protecting them from 'absent-minded voting'. It is forcing them into 'misinformed unvoting'. This sentence makes no sense unless 'absent-minded voting' means 'voting at all'.

The other half of that contradiction comes from: "while seeing who was willing to take each candidate to the possible hard-lynch state. We have nothing to gain from a hard-lynch early in the day. If Mafia can "accidentally" cause a pop, however, all the better for them." If she tells Town not to take someone to L-1 in the thread, she also tells Mafia not to take someone to L-1 in the thread. Assuming that Marushi said her true intentions and wanted to see who would take it to L-1, she shot herself in the foot by stopping people before they could get someone to L-1. No one would ever take anyone to L-1 while she was giving these warnings.

About her intention itself, the benefit of keeping people from taking people to L-1 specifically is... What? Keeping Mafia from making a bad decision? Keeping people from eliminating others as the Hated? Those are all I can think of. This makes sense to me because if she were Mafia, posting warnings to everyone like this would be the only way she could communicate with her fellow Mafia buddies during the Day.

That leaves one reason: She didn't want to help Town make intelligent voting decisions. The minute she claimed her role, she wouldn't be able to scare people away from voting for other people with misinformation. She also profited from keeping people from getting to L-1, because the fewer people who got to L-1, the longer she could go without being discovered as Hated.

She knew that claiming would help town. Yet she chose not to claim until she had no other choice. Why did she claim now? For no other reason than because she thought it would make her look suspicious if she did not. These priorities are very messed up and made me think that Marushi's actions are based around self-preservation instead of helping Town. This is what got me thinking.

The Hated/Watcher logic is bad for its own reasons.

Marushi says that her reasoning is similar to mine when I was the Watcher, but my logic when I was the Watcher relied on the fact that I was the one being targeted. If Mafia killed me during the night, we would not gain any information from it unless there was a Watcher. That made the mafia avoid Night killing me, which was good for the whole Town, not just me.

The Hated role has no night action and its role has no purpose during the Night phase. The Hated role has value because it affects the Day time where we can see who votes for who. If there were a Hated, Marushi should have pushed to have this person come forward. She told people not to vote instead. This is suspicious because she did it knowing that they were not Hated, when she stood to gain more information from letting people vote how they pleased and seeing who made mafia-esque moves! The best thing a Hated Town can do is get hammered and reveal Mafia by doing so.

Hated does not make you more or less likely to be Night killed. It is not alignment-specific. It does not make the one who claims it more likely to be Night killed or anyone else less likely to be Night killed by existing. The Hated's influence is restricted to the lynch vote, and its influence gives the entire town more information if it is claimed.

The Watcher is ensured to be Night killed by claiming, and they can be used to sway Mafia away from Night kills before they claim. The Watcher's claim is only beneficial if they have already found a Mafia with their ability. Until then, their ability benefits them and only them during the Night until they die. The Watcher's influence is restricted to controlling Night actions. The Watcher's influence has no effect on the lynch vote unless they come forward with helpful findings.

Benefits of Watcher claiming
Town: None, unless you have results. No matter what you get night killed right away.
Mafia: You get to kill a tangible threat that Night.

Benefits of warning Mafia of the general possibility of the Watcher (without a claim)
Town: Control over who they choose to kill.
Mafia: None. You get your night actions controlled.

Benefits of Hated claiming
Town: Gain more ability to tell how suspicious a vote is.
Mafia: None. Appear more suspicious if you vote for the Hated. Restricts Day actions.

Mafia: Provides a guideline on how to stay under the radar. Thereby helps them keep from slipping up and doing something suspicious.

Trigger - See the previous case. He is all but confirmed Mafia by now.

hyuge - I have been suspecting hyuge for a while due to peculiar wordings and a general bad vibe. I had some suspicion of her due to the way she handled Trigger before Marushi's actions concerning her, but before that I was going purely on a gut read. Even if both Trigger and Marushi turn out to be town, it's a strong enough gut read that I would lynch her above everyone else if I had no hard data.

She has a couple of suspicious actions that I noticed as soon as she made them. Firstly, this post made me suspect her as Trigger's buddy:

I haven't decided what to make of it other than odd. I don't feel like a Mafia member would have blatantly risked being so careless like that, but I don't understand what his thought process was in doing it in the first place. Even with having read the posts going on in which he had unvoted and then revoted, and his response now, it doesn't make a lot of sense. It was careless, and nonsensical. Was it a mafia move? I have yet to be certain.

The wording here sounds unnatural. Coupled with not having a real read, it raised my eyebrows.

Then she pre-emptively voted for Trigger without a notable reason for changing her opinion from her previous post:

I've already expressed my opinion on Trigs, and the leadership matter. I think waiting on anything else is a waste of time. I'm not quite sure what the waiting is for exactly.

I'm going to get the ball rolling since no one else seems to be. Whether Trigs is mafia or not, he almost caused us to have a no lynch and it was reckless. ##Vote: Trigger

Given that her 'opinion' on Trigger was one of the least condemning, I think this vote is an attempt to get out ahead of the lynch she saw coming instead of an actually convicted vote. I think this is a bus vote.

The way Marushi has set her up as a potential buddy also sets off flags.

It's true that my read of hyuge is largely circumstantial and gut based, but if either Marushi or Trigger turn out to be Mafia, there is a decent indirect case for hyuge based on their combined actions.

Spike - He is the only other person who is ambiguous enough to be scum. I don't really suspect him. He is just more likely than the others by process of elimination. Same as hyuge, but without the gut read or direct quote data.[DOUBLEPOST=1416342863][/DOUBLEPOST]
