Eh, I don't agree with all the points, and he sounds like he has a different experience compared to me.

Payment does not make someone better at their job, inherently. It's hard to convey to anyone what's good and bad, I've had friends who have taken market research internships, and it's been part of their job to ask people what they like or dislike about their product. People know what they like or don't, but they find it hard to explain why and more often then you think it's inaccurate, hypocritical or still muddled in wordiness that lacks clarity. We pick reviewers based on whether we agree, try to agree, sympathise or like the person, not always because they are 'good' at their job. Like I said, most reviewers are bad, yet they have many fans and followers who listen to their advise, even if it's biased, subjective, reactionary to other reviews and other things that generally causes them to be bad at conveying clear and concise arguments.

We choose what reviewers we trust and listen to them as a result, doesn't matter if they're right or wrong usually.

That could be generalised to most descriptions of why we enjoy games.

Fun facts, kids: the Placebo effect, mixed with positive thinking scenarios and exercises has helped stop the spread of cancer in some patients, and has also helped the recovery of people with various mental illnesses. Staaaay Positive!

^ Paraphrasing an old psychology teacher (She was never this cheery though).
You'll hear the term used mainly in taking medication.

Let's say you've got a stomach ache, and you visit the doctors. The doctor gives you a pills, and says, this will cure you of your stomach problems. You take the pills believing they are curing you, and you recover. Those pills, however, were hollowed out and there wasn't any medicine inside them. So if you weren't given any medicine, how were you healed?
The Placebo effect is basically the power of positive thinking, of believing something and it coming true.

In this case, believing that drinking orange juice will cure you of sickness has made some people feel better, when in reality the orange juice chemically isn't actually doing much of anything.

I've asked myself for years why I still love to play games from the Dynasty Warriors series, they look bad, play rigidly, the animations of movement is terrible and the gameplay can easily get repetitive. If you can tell me why I love it, I'm all ears.

And a lot of the time it's hard to tell why we like a game, and even harder for reviewers to give an accurate summary of what is to like and not, it's why we have so many bad reviewers out there. Think about Tetris, for example, what ways is it fun? I love Tetris but I'm basically trying to pack a suitcase with blocks. In what way is Farmville fun to play? I hate it, yet millions have loved and played it.

I agree we should ask ourselves why we like what we like, but I don't think it's ordinary or easily identified as many believe.

I guess I can see the possible sarcasm, but i don't see how that might mean I don't watch Dr Who.
I do watch it, most of em are fun if sometimes poorly written. What you get for having several episode writers.

If a games fun for you, great. I've slagged off soooo many games I don't like, but if you enjoy em, great, variety is the spice of life and all. Everyone's experiences and tastes are different.
That's what we should all take from this.

    But...
Wouldn't it be quicker to get a wild Ditto in your game than trying to find someone to trade with? Or just continue without a Charmander till you RP across a Ditto? Or just... RP without it? I mean your story probably doesn't hinge on getting a Charmander for your friend i'm guessing?

I've been dealing with a few people recently who have or may have cancer, so I can only sympathise with you further in how **** of a situation this is...

Don't jump to conclusions, i know that you already have and i would too, but remember that it's not a for sure thing yet, keep that in the back of your mind somewhere.

Also, if it's just part of your your arm that is affected, you have a great chance at it being completely treatable, since it's not a sensitive area like around other organs that might affect you through chemotherapy or other such treatments. One of the people I talked of earlier was a kid who had bone cancer in his upper arm, and he's doing great now.

All the best mate, keep us informed if you would.

    Watch_Dogs

Don't know if they'll transfer other studios onto the project, maybe a couple knowing Ubi's incestuous proliferation with itself in regards to making games, but if they did that they'd likely be behind on their future games scheduling of certain studios.

I think high end graphics should be a thing for Watch Dogs, because it's a game very much based up the living, modern world we're in. It wouldn't seem as good to me if my 'immersion' in the game was let down because of a lack of believability, some sense of not feeling the breadth of this world. I think it's partly also a retrospective vision after next gen stuff, everything in the past begins to look a bit crummy and old and anything not next gen looking feels a bit lacking.

And in regards to the multiple studios approach, it's actually one of Ubi's greatest strengths and fatal flaws in some ways. They're able to pump out more content on average, and at a higher quality generally since they'll have more people refining it, but a number of aspects of their games are homogenised as a result, like the same sorts of games having assassination focus or wall climbing in their bigger titles, since trying to explore more diverse and unique game mechanics would result in a more muddled vision from so many different studios. This also works within their writing department, my Creative Writing lecturer who has written for a few games before has said that Ubi's writing team is not cohesive, they're all given parts of several projects at once and told to come together with all these different parts, and it eliminates a lot of creative flow and diversity in narratives.

All I can say is they do things their way, I respect that at least.
