Like Misty said he's probably upset that you lost touch. If you have the ability to, send a message and see if he responds. If he does then you're one step closer to getting reacquainted. If he doesn't respond if you have another way to contact him then try it. You don't have to lose those bonds if you can help it. Keep in mind though that you will most likely have more friends to come, so try to look on the bright side, though I don't know that there is much of a bright side.
