"Never too late to start, miss Clarisse." Matt put on an assuring smile. "I've seen the way you took care of the other passengers. You have a perfectly good heart. You just need time to bloom." He looked at the other passengers who where already sleeping under the tarp roof. "Perhaps you should get your rest, mademoiselle. I will tend the fire."
Twilight nodded, looking at the smoldering creatures. She shivered. "Ugh...snakes..."
Twilight helped him sit up. It hurt her to watch him in so much pain, although she didn't say it. "Rest as long as you need, Gharanth. Take your time."
"Not weak at all, mademoiselle." Matt tried to gain eye contact with her to assure her. "Not everyone can be perfectly stable all the time. It's normal to be afraid out here. I'd call you a fool if you weren't."
"Then I guess my role will be making sure the protector doesn't get killed."
Matt looked up, seeing the glistening wetness suddenly filling Clarisse's eyes. "Miss Clarisse?" He put an assuring hand on her shoulder. "It's quite alright to be afraid, ma'am. No shame in that. And like you said, things will get better." 'Won't they?'
"Sometime's bravery isn't having no fear." Matt muttered, closing his eyes and listening to the waves crashing against each other. "Sometime's being brave is just facing your fears head on."
Twilight, staring at the scored remains of the snakes, nodded, knealing down next to him and offering him her canteen.
Matt managed a smile. "You...afraid? Impossible." He chuckled dryly. Eye's locked on the fire. "It's so...strange though...being out here...on land...it make's my stomache turn...without the waves under me i feel...anxious..."
Twilight wasn't much in the mood for talking, as if her voice would set off some trap. She made sure to step where Gharanth stepped, staying only a pace behind.
ooc: i g2g. It's late here. bye. ooc: where is everyone?
Twilight stayed near him, following close behind. ooc: bye then.
Matt picked at it but was having trouble eating. His thoughts were still on the ship. Like the Albatross had taken some part of him down with it. The sky was getting darker and he set aside his food, offering it to anyone who wanted it. He set some blankets and tarps down under the small roof he'd put together earlier for anyone ready for bed and returned to the fire, sitting by Clarisse again.
Jayz nodded absentmindedly. She made it sound so easy. He himself had slautered thousands of humans in the first few years. He still had trouble. There were times when he had to go months without blood for fear it would make him go after a human.
Twilight managed a smile. "Is that all?"
Jayz sighed. "I'm still not used to it and it's been years...blood is just so...hard to saty away from these days...I do try though."
Matt nodded. "I can help there. As soon as you're ready we can search." Matt rubbed his eyes again.
Jayz nodded. "I understand why she wouldn't...I remember when I found out i was a..."
"I...don't know what to think...but if you say there's a tracker..." Matt dug his bare feet into the sand, thinking hard. "If all goes as planned...how long do you think it will take?"
Twilight stared into his eyes for a moment. "Alright..." She looked towards the hallway. Taking a breath, she burst into a straight out run, she swirved left and right a few times to avoid the pendulums and only ran faster when she felt them rush past behind her. When she was sure she was passed, she skid to a stop and looked back, waiting.
