There will be some venting here, so if I ramble some bare with me (or skip down to the tl;dr that you can likely assume from the title as well).

So my parents went to a financial seminar a while ago and were so impressed by it that they've paid for me to attend it now and are attending it again (repeating is free). But the seminar talks mostly about getting out of debt and avoiding debt. This is all well and good, but right now I have a small debt with my parents over dropped classes and have no credit lines to create debt. In fact my few attempts to create a credit line (including a secured credit card) have all been declined due to lack of a credit history. When I mentioned that in a break off discussion during the seminar, they were shocked that I had even applied for credit. According to them being in a situation where debt is an option is folly. Everything should be saved for and purchased in cash. I'm find that to be a great end goal, but it isn't a good starting place in today's society. Case in point in housing. I would be living with my parents a long time to save enough to buy a house in cash, so that isn't really an option. But after that you need to look at mortgage or renting. Mortgage is directly debt so that is out (if I can even secure one) and landlords want to see credit history so they can be confident you can pay each month. So under their current philosophy my only option is to convince potential landlords to let me live there without proof that I can make payments.

So we wind up with an interesting conundrum. Credit is so ingrained in our society that living without it is difficult, especially when you are first starting to live independently. Credit history is used to create a lot contracts. And low budget financing is a lot easier when you can charge somewhere that you aren't worried if a transfer has occurred yet or if you might have a subscription payment coming up that will overdraft the account. But at the same time creditors earn money when you use the service incorrectly, so they stack the deck against you. Every adult I talk to is paying off some debt or another, and no one intends to go there. They go there assuming that they know better and they won't mess it up like everyone else. And when they do make larger debts it is because they are going to "pay it off quickly before it is an issue". So is it enough to swear that you won't build up a long term debt? Is the credit card so dangerous that ever owning one should be avoided?

tl;dr: At what lengths is it reasonable to avoid credit and debt? Is it reasonable to live life without any credit lines? What are the best practices when using lines of credit?

Disclaimer: Above questions are intended to be an icebreaker to the topic. They are not guidelines. As such sharing of thoughts within the topic but outside of the posed questions are accepted and encouraged. My god this disclaimer is sounding too much like legalese. I need to crack a joke or something. Pudding.

Not sure if anyone can help, but I at least need to vent. As a few of you know I've been struggling with college. A lot. I'm three years in and still (barely) a freshman. This has left me scared and irritable on top of showing signs of clinical depression, albeit I feel happy enough most of the time. The biggest symptom is that my body demands about 12 hours of sleep a day at no rhythm that I can discern.

In and of itself I don't mind these long sleeps, but my parents view it as laziness and insist that I spend at least 10 hours a day "productively" (placed in quotes because I have no idea what qualifies anymore. Trip to the zoo is fine, writing an android app is not). Failure to be productive results in me being kicked out of the house for the day. For the sake of my sanity I've frequently chosen to leave as I find it to be the far less stressful option.

All of this tension came to a head today when my dad woke me up at 6 to mow the lawn. So I slowly got up, ate breakfast, etc. and probably got to the lawn about 8, death metal screaming from my phone so that I wouldn't fall back asleep. Then while mowing the lawn the mower got stuck so I have it an extra push only to have it race off, hit the basketball hoop, and leave me falling backwards. Lucky it shut off on its own, but I decided I was too tired to operate it safely and went back inside.

My dad, somehow baffled that I would be tired on 6 hours of sleep suggests I make a doctor's appointment. I respond that I don't feel ill or anything, and I actually feel great when I have the amount of sleep I crave even if it is high. Then he says "Who knows, you might get lucky and find you have some disorder. Then you might end up in assisted living and be able to give up on life like you've always wanted" to which I walked out to avoid hitting him, or breaking something, or god knows what else.

So here I sit. Typing this up from a bench at a strip mall, trying hard not to think about using it as a bed, and making a futile attempt at holding back tears. A piece of me doesn't want to go home tonight, but I don't think I can make the night once my adrenaline completely goes down. And I certainly don't want to use a spot at a shelter when I have somewhere I could be.

And moving to a broader scope, my life fells like that dream sequence of desperately running to a destination that only slips farther and farther away. I can't keep living like this, but every alternative seems worse. Everybody talks about how smart I am and how much I could accomplish, but right now I seriously think I might be homeless this time next year.

    I'm Dying

I just spent most of the last 20 hours sleeping. Sure it wasn't straight, I ate, used the bathroom, even browsed the forum on my phone briefly. But I would conservatively guess that at least 15 of those hours was actually sleeping.

Also, what is the proper way to greet someone if you wake up at 9 PM? It may be your "morning" but it is physically well into the evening and many people are heading towards bed. I like the concept from xkcd of saying good morning from wherever on Earth is is actually morning, but that requires timezone math and geography quickly after waking up.

Welcome to another week of Top 5 (even if I am a couple days late). We had plenty of good entries and it was really hard to narrow it down to 5, much less rank them. And as an added bonus it was heartwarming to see all the community building with many collabs and tribute videos. So without further ado let me present our winners.

    1. NEVERLAND; ᴅᴇᴅɪᴄᴀᴛᴇᴅ ᴛᴏ sᴏɴɪᴄғᴀɴ23

    NEVERLAND; ᴅᴇᴅɪᴄᴀᴛᴇᴅ ᴛᴏ sᴏɴɪᴄғᴀɴ23

    Submitted by: starlight2011studios
    Song: Neverland by U-Kiss
Details: A very bright and energetic piece. There wasn't much of a story to it but there didn't need to be for this piece (even if you translate the lyrics, there isn't much to run with) My only real issue was that it was too much at points and I couldn't quite tell what was happening other than brightly colored objects flashing across the screen.

    2. Safe and Sound
    Submitted by: minicoop55
Song: Safe and Sound covered by Sam Tsui & Kurt Schneider
Details: This one had some nice consistant flow to it with effects that were noticeable without being overwhelming. There were some points that seemed to me like you were unsure of what you should be doing, but I am thankful that you gave it a swing anyway instead of making a short video.

    3. Kingdom Hearts, End of Me
    Submitted by: Leblonk
Song: End of Me by Ashes Remain
Details: Very similar to video above, but with darker tone to match the different song. From a technical standpoint it would be nice if you applied some cropping so that there is a consistent aspect ratio throughout, but how the clips were used I don't imagine most people would notice or mind. The audio overlays were done very cleanly and served well to support the video's story, though in the future you may want to play with the volume a bit to make sure they don't get buried under the music.

    4. Love That You Deserve [ᶠᵒʳ ᴰᵃʳᵏᴿᵒˣᵃˢˣˣˣ]
    Submitted by: PrincessKairixXx
Song: Love Song Requiem by Trading Yesterday
Details: Rather simplistic and straightforward but it was played to your advatage to result in a video that had a softer tone and smooth flow. I esspecially liked the soft lighting overlay to give a bit of consistancy across the transitions.

    5. sʜᴏᴏᴛɪɴɢ sᴛᴀʀs; ᴇᴠᴇʀʏᴛʜɪɴɢ ♥
    Submitted by: starlight2011studios
Song 1: Airplanes / Brick By Boring Brick covered and remixed by Michael Henry & Justin Robinett
Song 2: Everything About You by One Direction
Details: A nice, upbeat, celebratory video quite fitting for the event it was made for. Though it did get to be too busy at various points, most notably for me was the blue particles in the first half. Perhaps if they were slower and/or more transparent it may have worked better, but when they came nearer to the camera the rapid motion provided more action than the song called for and masked the video behind it. Interestingly though the pink particles in the second half were done very well. And the use of still images durring the trasition was perfomed nicely as well.

Hello there KH-Vidians. Mixt here as a first time Top 5 host. And what a week it was. I'm always impressed at what our editors can do, and this week was not an easy pick. We ran the gambit from upbeat and flashy to slow and pensive.

    1. LOVE N' BACK;; COLLAB [TaraXDD & Starlight2011studios]

    LOVE N' BACK;; COLLAB [TaraXDD & Starlight2011studios]

    Submitted by: starlight2011studios
Song: To Love And Back by This Century
Details: A nicely done collab where both parties melded together very well. It would have been nice to see some video softening to mask the aliasing (particularly on zoomed shots), but that is easier said than done without just making it blurry.

    2. Ocean Avenue
    Submitted by: sonicfan23
    Song: Ocean Avenue by Yellowcard
Details: A rather overused song in the AMV world, but this video did a very nice job with it. There were a few points where it felt to me like the video's flow was out pacing the song's, but the lyric matching and beat matching were very well done. Plus it managed to cover a wide array of story angles and tie them all together without feeling too much like it was jumping around. I would mostly say to tone the effects down a bit as there is a fine line between pretty and distracting.

    3. Home
    Submitted by: minicoop55
Song: Home by Green River Ordinance
Details: A very fitting song to the KH series. The flow was a nice match and there was a nice consistent tone. However I would have liked to see more variety in the clips, and the flash effects often seemed too frequent and strong especially on the black.

    4. HUMAN
    Submitted by:starlight2011studios
Song: Flowers For A Ghost by Thriving Ivory (with dialogue from Teen Wolf)
Details: A very serious video to tug at your heartstrings, and some of the better audio editing I've seen in awhile. Unfortunately the clips seemed to mostly be there to match tone and not meaning. And despite the text being minimalistic it's placement and constant presence made it hard to not just read through the video.

    5. KH-Come and get it(SoraxVentusxRoxas)
    Submitted by: benjizz
Song: Come & Get It by Krewella
Details: This video had some nice effects, and good beat matching. There were just two issues I found that stopped it from being higher on the list. First is that the video was too short focus on three characters, and thus there didn't seem to be much meaning behind it. Second, some of the effects seemed hastily added and ended up breaking flow more than adding emphasis.

So I've been seeing the concept of infinities cropping up a lot recently in various places and want to see thoughts here at KHV. In particular, how different methods of approaching infinity relate and can one result in a bigger infinity than another.

For example take whole numbers, and whole even numbers. On one hand there are less even numbers because every number on the even list is also on the full whole number list plus all the odds. But on the other hand you could consider them the same because if we take the "full" whole numbers list and pass it through the function f(x) = 2x (e.g. 1=2; 2=4; 3=6; 4=8...) we will get a list of all whole even numbers that is the same length as the list of whole numbers.

Likewise what if you start looking at fractions, irrational numbers, or complex numbers? Can these also be expressed in lists to be numbered off or do we need consider them somehow bigger?

    Blog Time!!!

I know, I know. But I just need to vent about this.

So class starts back up for me next week so in figuring out transportation plans my Dad has me print off the schedule. Fine. I go online and print it off. Due to several factors I'm only taking two classes this semester, one around noon and the other in the evening. Since everyone else has jobs I know the noon class is going to end up with me at campus for most of the day and the evening class is a minor issue because everyone is home anyway. While we never sat down to decide all that it is mostly a given based on how we've done it in the past and informal decisions.

So today my Dad tells me to reprint my schedule because the times on the noon class got cut off. So while my computer is booting up so I can check times I tell him the class is around noon. I don't know if I accidentally said it in a wrong tone, but he suddenly gets mad at me saying that he can't plan things around guesses and he needs exact numbers. So I point out the whole deal about there being dead time before and after the class anyway, so the times are based off everyone else; plus that I needed to pull up the schedule so I couldn't give him the exact numbers immediately. He just says "You should do less thinking and more doing what I tell you." and walks off. I had to break it off there because I was considering punching him, and I was definitely going to be yelling.

That is childish enough to put "Because I said so" to shame, where as I'm 20 and was doing what he said anyway. I don't get how he can be that angry about getting an estimate as a time filler when he usually gets annoyed by my looking things up when I have even less of an idea. The only way to make him happy with these things is to have all of this memorized, and that is not something I do well.

Hey guys. Mixt here with some big news for all of you. We have some high quality versions of the Kingdom Hearts: Dream Drop Distance cutscenes.

These are one of a kind to KH-Vids.Net! What makes them special is that these ARE NOT the cam-rips that you'll find everywhere else. These are exactly what is displayed on the 3DS and thus very high quality (albeit small size since it is designed for a small screen). Now before anyone asks, MP4s and low quality versions are coming soon. I just wanted to release these as soon as possible. I would like to give a big thank you to everyone who donated to the site for helping to make this possible.

So without further ado, I would like to invite you to visit the Cutscene Archive and check them out.
