Hi, everyone! As we all know, Kingdom Hearts III is scheduled to release on January 25 in Japan, and January 29 in the rest of the world. The long-awaited day is nearly here! Unfortunately, the nearness of the release day means that content leaks are going to happen—one already has just today. And so here at KH-Vids, effective immediately, we will be enforcing a blanket ban on all leaked Kingdom Hearts III content, both on the forum and on our Discord server. This includes links to as well as discussion of leaked content. Anyone sharing any leaked content from the game will be instantly banned from the forum and the Discord server until the game's release. Don't be that person who ruins the game for others. I feel like I need to start this by saying that I like Kairi. She's a fun and interesting character. The problem is that the games' writers give her very little to do. Of course I don't expect her to start firing off -ga magic or omnislashes the instant she gets her hands on a Keyblade. Battle prowess is not the only measure of usefulness. But you're not actually refuting that Kairi's been largely useless in the series as a whole. I think the main problem in this conversation is that we're coming at this from different angles. If I understand you correctly, you think that my criticisms of Kairi are focused on her not doing anything in-universe. But my real issue is with the writers not giving her anything to do. It's been almost seventeen years now since the first KH game came out and in that time, in all the games that have come since, what focus has she gotten as a character?
You may notice if you look closely that young Xehanort's eyes are not, in fact, yellow here. This lends credence to the idea that yellow eyes are a sign of corruption by darkness alone rather than the popular interpretation that they're a sign of being 'norted specifically. Nomura can say whatever he likes in prerelease interviews; now more than ever I don't trust that Aqua's corruption is a takeover by Xehanort. ...Unless, of course, this is just a mistake like Ventus-Vanitas having blue eyes in the initial 2.8 release.
Well...to be fair, up until now she kinda has been. The most she's really accomplished aside from restoring Sora from being a Heartless in KH1 has been KO'ing a few Shadows in KHII. Which is really a shame, because there's a lot of potential for her that's just been ignored, but hopefully KHIII will finally give her something substantial!
