Hello, everyone, and welcome - AGAIN! - to what I hope will be another rewarding event. For the month of April, if anyone needs reminding or the introduction, we will be marked by our total attendance throughout the month; from April 1st all the way to April 30th. Posting each day will earn you major rewards and can only achieve great things for the SOS RP we know and love.

There is, so far, one rule for post length:
Posts must meet a two line minimum. You must have at least two lines of text; not two sentences or two lines of dialogue. I am trying to be as clear as possible.

Post at least once in a day, and you will earn a mark. You each have from 12:00 AM until 11:59 PM during the same calendar date, in your own Time Zone, to earn your mark. Please POST before the given time. If you're running close to the deadline, then just post what you have, and then you can edit. You will not be disqualified for an edited post that is longer than two sentences.

Also, all posts must be relevant to the story. They must display your character, even if it's just back-story. Posts where you narrate a past event with no mention of a present one (the instance your character happens to be, at the time), are not encouraged.

Scientists are using suspended animation, or at least looking into it, to help with crime investigation, an old Black Death burial site is being dug into to make it feel like the bad beginning to a different take on "Jurassic Park" (Bonus: Apparently it was an airborne illness, which means it was pneumonic and not Bubonic, and if we get it again: we're all dead), and a particularly notable tremor (not an Earthquake) right over top the super volcano that's got everyone always talking and worrying.

Yup, tonight I'm not sleeping. Disney songs, nearly unlimited Pepsi, and Fanfiction writing. Alert me when the world begins to end.

Worth noting for the sake of humanity: Apparently a 7.something earthquake hit Yellowstone in 1959, and nothing happened then. Yes, I know the source is Wikipedia, but it's a start for those interested; it's not my term paper.

Misty is right. As far as I consider it, the times when things go bad and stay bad are Tragedies. When every character has that one critical flaw that makes you know they are doomed to failure, then it becomes as dull as expecting the hero to win after dealing with a problem. Throughout history, you have several periods of the "Mary Sue" changing. Ancient Greeks really favored Tragedies, Dramas were big in the mid-90's, flawed heroes more apt to say "You got the wrong guy....(dramatic pause)...I'm no hero." than anything else appeared in strings of things fairly recently, and now Comedies with bawdy humor are rather popular.

I don't disagree with your point of view that the predictability can get a bit dull, but I try to keep an open mind. I expect the writer to try and surprise me in ways I've never seen, and I distract myself from trying to make too many predictions. By the end of the story, every development I've payed attention to tends to fit well and provides for an enjoyable diversion.

Base, moving with serpentine swiftness, bowed and dipped under Luna's damaged shoulder and helped to support her weak side. Two feet had become four with three shoulders. "I'm a little low on Magic, or else I would probably be able to help with a Cure spell. We can't move five steps into a new surrounding without helping someone we've never met, but we also gotta help each other, right? We're friends." Base smiled at Luna, seeing how weak the last battle had left her. "D'daear, you may have to take the other side. We have to get to that room to do what we can here, but keep this in mind, D'daear... be prepared for anything. We did not know that Beast was the master of this castle, and so this domain may hold no end of surprises. Use your head, and know when to use diplomacy or more aggressive tactics." Base dictated to D'daear with an instructor's grace. "Don't always trust what you see with only your eyes. The Darkness can cloak the Truth, and the Light can blind you." Base redistributed his weight to more easily carry Luna. "Look for the balance, but never go into the Dark not armed with Light."

Being pushed lightly on both his torso and legs, Base almost tipped over from the sudden invasion of his personal space. He wouldn't allow for this, and so he wheeled around the spot and broke their holds of him. "Hey! Watch it would you?" Base tried to catch up on everything that was happening. "What's going on here. I have answers and I want questions."

Base took no delay in taking advantage of the Beast’s momentary confusion caused by Luna’s powerful slam. He swung in and cast a crippling Thunder Spell onto the Beast. “Double pace!” He called out, as a crack of thunder accompanied an erratic bolt of lightning that struck the Beast directly on the head. He dealt some melee damage while the volts ran through the massive, gruesome form; it certainly enough to kill the brute, but, judging from the grunting and odd pose, it was definitely enough to keep the monster in one place for several well-landed blows to the Beast’s jaw, chest, and ankle. Whatever it was, it’d feel those for sure once the paralysis dissipated. One more blow to the other ankle, and Base cast his Keyblade away to free his hands up for his next move; he was going to grab the Bull (Or whatever) by the literal horns. While the Beast was immobilized by the Thunder spell, Base swung around onto the Beast’s back by gripping on of its horns, and knocked the monstrosity first back headlong into the wall and into the ground. While Base held down the weakened Beast, he did not expect a rather quick recovery; the Beast roared back to an upright (and furious) position, and through Base skywards in the process. Luckily, Base was able to catch a gargoyle fixture some meters above the ground as he descended, but after having made the Beast as angry as he had, Base wasn’t so sure he wanted to go back down. Then the Beast spotted him, a fiery mad spark in the monster’s large blue eyes told Base there was surely some way the Beast was going to find to bring down the boy.

The Beast came charging towards the pillar and bombarded the stone with his mighty fists. The whole room shook, and Base almost lost grip of his gargoyle. Having failed the first time to bring down the prize, the Beast gave the pillar another, greater knock, but Base was wiser; Base jumped from the gargoyle and used the Beast’s head as spring board to get back down to the floor. Given the aid of his velocity, the Beast’s jaw smacked right into the stone floor with tremendous force as Base used his momentum to reach Krowley.

“Mind finishing him off?” Base gave Krowley a nod, having completely been worn out of breath. His holding power had improved, and in so doing, Base was really beginning to see his true acrobatic and powerhouse abilities as an active fighter. Truth be told… he liked the rush.

Base tried to be careful as the Beast came charging through. Base had grown stronger, but he was still comparably lithe, and this Beast could break him like a twig if given half the chance. He'd already used a Blizzard spell, but Luna was bleeding. "Bria!" Base cast a cure spell over Luna before realizing his motionlessness had caused the Beast to target him first. Monstrous paws came crashing down to swipe at his vulnerable stomach, but Base acted quickly enough to hop onto the Beast's hunched, wide back. It wasn't the sturdiest of safest of spots in the room, so Base used the momentum to launch himself off the surface. He made a 360, having grown accustomed to the flow of the battle field, and clipped the Beast in one of his comparably thin ankles. When the Beast responded by whirling around, albeit, with an unstable left leg, Base almost was caught again as the Beast tried to return with his claws. The fortunate thing was, the Beast had cumbersome arms; he moved fast enough, but the power trade didn't bode well for the arms.

Falling back over the stairs, Base almost wound up heading face first into the floor below the staircase, but caught a guard rail and ended up on his feet. He was still a level below the fight, however, and had left the passage between the Beast and the Beauty unguarded. Launching himself in front of the stairs, Base stood firm, with his Keyblade facing out front. "
FRIA!" Base traced a line down from the Beast's feet to the base of the stairs. "Somebody mind giving the big guy a push?" He called to his comrades, hoping someone would take the next step in the trick he'd set up for using the Beast's weight against him. It would just take one push to send the bulky Beast down to the ground floor, and take him farther from the East Wing where Luna and the Beauty were headed.

It was a straight plane of ice, but it covered the steps well, turning a strip of steps into a veritably dangerous ramp. Base may have only gained a little weight since starting his journey, and he may have previously have been an inexperienced mage at the start, but now he was really getting a hold of his powers, and using his head to overcome his faced foes.

I voted for Hexin, but I'll switch my vote to Karina. I've personally liked her work throughout the month of January. Even if her character is a bit irascible, she's practically a legend in her own right at this point.

Face to face with the talking monstrosity, Base felt a tad uneasy. His strongest impulse was to run, but his comrades kept him glued to the spot. The Beast had such a particular voice...

"We mean you no harm." Base emulated the Beast's gruff, heavy tone. "We are Magicians and Warriors." It was true. They were, but just how useful that information was to a Beast, Base had no idea. "We wish to speak with you." Base connected two and two together. That roar was not far off from the sound of the original roar they had heard in the dungeon. Whatever this creature was, it seemed to run the roost, or at least think that it did. If it were truly a monster, a young woman wouldn't have been just walking out of that room, but probably would have been something that the Beast would be picking out of his terrible terrible. Maybe, just maybe, the Beast could be reasoned with. When the Beast began its charge, Base cast a
Blizzard spell instinctively to slow the monster's momentum.

"To be honest, I'm sorry about that. I just want to talk." Base used his own voice to speak.

Well, Drug overdose is becoming more and more prevalent. It's just a part of our culture now to do drugs. I know plenty of non-celebrities who do drugs, and I have seen people, regular people, suffer the same fates of recents like PSH and Corey Monteith. The real arguement, and really where most of the debate stems from, is "How come this actor is a sad story, while this regular person is just a junkie?". My simple answer is: We're judging by the life we know outside of the drugs. If you're the guy who does absolutely nothing except shoot up all day long, then you are probably a junky. If you affect the world around you more proactively, however, it's likely that you'll be remembered more for what you did outside of your own private life. It's been the cornerstone of Diplomats and Celebrities for ages. You can really do anything; not just be the guy who talks well on a screen.

What surprises me is the evident lack of understanding in a world that is heavily involved in drug use. What was once the spark of rebellion is now a mundane, rudimentary activity. A major proponent of LSD use was Aldous Huxley, an author and an intellectual. His writings on drug use made him what is considerably "The Godfather of Modern Drug Use", but his intent was something more along the lines of examples like Andy Warhol creating through drug consumption rather just the base notion of "Hey, man, my dad said LSD is bad. We should do it, trip and stuff, because reasons and stuff".

I'll admit. It has become a bit of a joke just how many people of some import fall to addiction. It's a joke with no punchline. PSH is dead, and he truly was not the most important man on earth, but there's just so much unfairness in it all. He had a successful career, a family (Keyboard crusaders of Reddit are really cracking down on the age of his kids that he left behind, and wave their fingers and other such condescending things that must produce some silly feeling of self-importance), and allegedly he'd been sober for some time. It's not that I'd give anything to bring him back, but I certainly wish things had gone differently.

From what I read today, he was allegedly sober for some years. Worst case scenario: it's an old habit that he started picking up again recently enough. A formidable chameleon and a scene-stealer, Philip Seymour Hoffman was one of those few character actors that you just knew, and rarely had to think "Wait, don't I know this guy from something else?"

The news hit me pretty hard when I first read it. He was truly more of a guy who worked in movies than a celebrity. A massive, notorious ego, but one that was not in greater display than his evident talent; not a terrible guy to start off with though, just a big ego.

    I personally think that:

1.) Glen's character has made huge amounts of progress both as a character and as a contributor to the story.

2.) Beuce has calmed down a bit on the fourth wall and has become an indisposable member of this RP.

3.) D'daear is working his way to up, tirelessly, to make up for his recent arrival. His determination to make sure that his character is full-bodied and interesting is both confessed by him personally, and, more importantly, evident in his posts. Due to his being new, I hope what I have written here can also help convince others to give him some notice or due, where none would otherwise be likely available.

    EDIT:

Due to the rule change, D'daear is my definite choice for January MVP. I have left the reasons I gave for three individuals above for fellow consideration.

"Be right with you!" The roar had cut through Base like a knife. He caught up with D'daear almost immediately, keeping more at his pace than Krowley's. "You haven't seen it all, by the way. This is the tip of the iceberg. What is normal in one world is not always normal in another, and sometimes normal is even fuzzy within one world itself. Take for instance, the teapot. Is everyone in this world made of chinaware? Suppose that, or suppose that they are merely denizens of a certain variety, and other, different entities exist within these walls."

Given his light frame, running was getting easier for Base as he became stronger and more fit. What had once been a scrawny lad was turning into a lean individual of less-than-intimidating bulk; but being solid was better than being skin and bone. He was growing as his abilities increased. "One thing you want to make sure of, D'daear, is that you are prepared for anything. We are actively searching out the source of that monstrous roar, but do we know what it is? Are we prepared to face the source? It is your duty to always think critically on any situation, because you never know when you might be separated and have to think for yourself." All the things he normally kept to himself, but he was able to tell them to another; he was able to teach someone willing to learn. There was a sense of completion in Base's spirit merely in the gesture.
