The glory days were terrible.

So it turns out I don't actually have to work today. I could have still used the monies but maybe I can unpack today. Work found someone else to come in.

Excuse my pithy commentary but I couldn't resist.

I hate my life.

Phone call from work this morning: 'Hey, I know you're supposed to be off all week but we need you to work tomorrow afternoon. No one else is available.'

And since I'm too nice and I need the monies, I said that I would. But it was just not the first thing I wanted to hear ten minutes after waking up.

I'm home from my vacation but I'm still off work until Monday.

okay, tomorrow i'm leaving for my vacation. I'm not taking my laptop since I could use a few days without it. I'm still taking my ipod with me because I need music. I'll be back probably late Thursday afternoon.

You kids behave while I'm gone. Or at least fight nicely.

I've been kind of dealing with a similar situation. But I'll put it behind a cut so I'm not bothering anybody.

SO I've made some really good friends in the Teen Wolf tumblr rp community which was the community I moved to after a huge fallout from the TRON tumblr rp community. Anyway, there was this situation where one of my friends, we'll call her M for convenience has a gf that's kind of got a reputation as a drama queen. Another friend, L, was talking to the gf and said she'd brb for a bit to talk to her mother.

Well, L comes back to find that this gf had run to M essentially saying that L didn't like her anymore. On top of the feeling that M has been kin of pushing L and myself away when a few months ago, we were more important. It takes M months to reply to one of our threads and she claims I'm intimidating but it's kind of beyond that point. If I'm as good of a friend as M claims, then I shouldn't be so intimidating.

So I deleted M from my Skype contacts and unfollowed all her blogs. Deleted all the threads I had with her off of my thread tracker. I was getting to the point I was losing sleep over worrying that M was going to yell at me and I'm still worried she's going to pop into my askbox or messaging me on skype.

It's just...something I didn't need to worry about the week before my vacation.

Sometimes you just have to accept that there are things beyond your control and that there isn't anything you can do about it. This is something I've had to work on.

And then, we all take a nap because sleep is a wonderful thing.

I am such unapologetic Luke Evans fan trash. No matter how many times I watch Dracula Untold, I still like it. Charles Dance is as dry as the Australian Outback, Luke Evans sells it as always and the fact that he's unabashedly shirtless in it helps. Oops.

And the costumes. I'm such a sucker for costume porn.

I would have loved to see Radu the Handsome in it but i am happy otherwise.

Speaking of Dragonball, Syfy's been advertising Evolution. I've been watching the Sharknado series all afternoon because of lack of anything else.

And I'm just kind of... James Marsters in green face paint. I have think he was in it for the paycheck tbh.

So Luke Evans happened. And my life hasn't been the same since.

I would agree that since the abuse seemed to start with both you and your sister entering into the 8th grade and would postulate that you becoming more of a teenager is some sort of trigger for your mother. She doesn't know how to take care of two young adults and perhaps that knowledge frightens her and she doesn't know how to properly work out this fear without this extreme reaction.

Depression is also hereditary. I'd suspect that she has a different form of it. You're more likely to say you don't want to do things whereas she's more likely to react with anger. Two different extremes for the same reason. But as she's never been diagnosed and I'm not properly licensed I hesitate to diagnose.

Your mother might also know how to not properly react to a person with depression. Given the stigma we have of mental illness and with those that have it, it wouldn't surprise me. It seems the most common reaction that someone with depression hears is: 'Have you tried not being depressed?' or 'Oh it's just in your head.' or 'Get over it.' I have a friend who has depression(legit diagnosed) and she hears these things from her own parents.

And I agree with what @Misty suggested. That you talk to a school counselor or some other adult about this. My first inclination would have gotten child protective services involved but I don't think there's anything malicious involved. And it's likely that your mother would be deemed unfit to care for you and your sister and since your father doesn't have the means to properly care for you, you'd be sent to a foster family. And I've heard good and bad things about the foster system.

I think most counselors have an obligation to report any instances of an unsafe home environment to act in the best interests of the children. Don't quote me on that since I probably have it written down in my notes from college moldering somewhere in my closet.

I hope things improve for you.

I briefly considered watching it because hey, Jason Mamoa and dragons. Read some things about it and was like: 'Hahaha nope. Not even for the dragons'.
