    It's raining freeze over here. I don't think there's enough Batmans to diffuse this situation.

    Hey Makaze, was just wondering if you'd be able to create an option in preferences to toggle sidebars, to remove them completely.

    I was actually trying to look into this myself and, not being very good at javascript, I only got as far as the css required to hide the sidebar and restore full width to the main content area.

    Code:
    .mainContent  {
        margin-right: none !important;
    }

    .sidebar {
        display: none !important;
    }

    I know it'd be easy to set a profile field through XenForo to do this but I have no idea how to script java >.<

    Thanks in advance,
    Nights ^^

    I was actually referring to ... hmm, what should I call it ... dumb as in the idea of rushing in without a full understanding of the situation. You're right, training definitely makes the difference and allows you to react to situations in a way that most can't. Though if, for instance, I was to notice a child on the second floor of a burning house, I'm the only one on scene and have no turnout gear, it would be foolish to simply rush into the house. I could get injured or potentially die but FoF would kick in and I'd charge in without thinking of the consequences. In that moment the only thing running through my mind is to get that child, or person of any age, to safety. That's why when tones drop for fully engulfed structure fires with possible entrapment, same goes for if entrapment is confirmed, my heart sinks and my body gets light.

    That's more how I was referring to it being dumb. Not wrong but still dumb.

    Thanks ^^ I really do need to have someone teach me. Around here it's taught more with the "sink or swim" method. I'll definitely remember your advice though if I ever need it. No one's ever really tried to explain to me a method which I could actually use before. I never thought of floating as a way to move in the water, more of like a lifeline.

    If they were already underwater I'm not so sure I could do much. I've literally almost drowned in knee deep water before but that's more because I'm typically a clutz.

    Call me dumb, which I actually believe this to be true myself, but in situations where fight or flight kicks in I'm more inclined to fight. It's moronic to charge in in terms that your life could be at risk and may even go in vain but I've seen too many people sit by and let things happen. This goes against so many protocols but if I ever pull up to a scene where someone is trapped, be it a house fire or vehicle accident, my first thought is to get them out, with or without gear or any regard for my personal safety. My life might be at risk but if there's a chance that I can save someone's life then it is well worth the risk. The thought of living on knowing that someone was fatally injured when I could have stopped it is just too much to bare. Maybe it's just me or even the training I've went through but in an FoF situation, my goal is to remain calm and think clearly. It's not easy and not just anyone can do it; hell, it takes everything I've got to do it myself.

    In a situation represented above, the thugs beating up the guy in the street, there were no weapons involved. If three or four people would have intervened then the thugs would have likely dispersed or even been detained. Even just one person would've increased the likelihood of the thugs dispersing. Even if you didn't want to be harmed, from what I caught in the video, it didn't look like anyone was rushing to his aid after the thugs left. I can't quite explain the feeling I get when seeing others just stand by in situations like this. Just the other day I watched a civilian save a life because he didn't wait. The guy actually knew CPR, luckily, but if he had waited for help it would've been a fatality.

    I have a deep fondness for military personnel because they lay their lives down every day to protect their countries, their families, their friends. The same goes for law enforcement, firefighters, and EMS. Anyone who lays their life on the lines to protect or save others is a hero in my eyes. There is such a thing as superman and superwoman, they live amongst us every day. Some go unnoticed, some don't get the respect they deserve. They don't do it for respect, or money, or fame but out of their own belief that it needs to be done. My heart may be cold, my soul may be so dark it is devoid of any light at all but I still stop to thank any of these brave men and women for their services towards their country.

    Fear, even though I know it can't be controlled, stops people from doing anything in these situations. It's not their fault as fear is rooted deep within our subconscious. Not being able to swim, I can honestly say I don't know how I'd react to someone drowning. I honestly don't know if I could bring myself to take that leap in hopes that not only will I swim but that I would bring that person back to shore. The instinct to live might be so overwhelming that my body would freeze up and I wouldn't physically be able to do anything. There's also the chance that I could make the situation worse and instead of one person drowning there would be two. Though I would hope that someone would act in my place or that if no one did I would overcome my fear and dive in. I just feel like there are too many people in the world for there to not be someone who would take charge in that situation.

    I just feel like calling the cops, emergency services or what have you, doesn't mean you're helping. They aren't always going to be just around the corner. It takes time for them to respond. It might be foolish to step in but sometimes things need to be done where logic doesn't come into play. It isn't logical to go into a burning house. It isn't logical to rush towards the sound of gunfire. Sometimes you just have to do something even when it goes against every instinct, every fiber of your being, telling you not to. Even though this is a show, I understand there will be isolated cases where it's not possible for anything to be done. For instance, not being sexcist or anything, there were two females in the background just before, or maybe during ... I can't recall, and it's understandable for them not to rush in head first. It's unclear whether there were any other guys around at the time, I don't recall seeing any, so I can chalk this up to a case where nothing could be done. Situations like this where there are more people who could do something but don't happen all the time though. That's just something that I simply can't accept.

    Preferred: If at all possible, I'd actually like a short story. I don't believe I've ever received one as a gift before. It doesn't have to be long, a few paragraphs would be fine. If not a story then an avatar and signature would be fine, preferred png format but any format is okay.

    I'm never really good at making lists and to be honest I just enjoy the Holiday spirit behind the event. Anything after a hyphen is just a preferred character or person. Anything from the category would be okay.

    It's all stored locally, I think, but I don't use WLM so I wouldn't know where to begin. Uninstalling and then reinstalling WLM would probably remove them all and you'd just have to re-enter your current email.

    Help

    I dislike both consoles so my loyalties are pretty much dead. PS3's really hit me hard when they took out the backwards compatibility for PS2 games. I can't take the heartache the PS4 is bringing with it (though I'll probably get one anyway).

    I say go with your gut and if that doesn't work then try ...

    ^this. If you wait, you can look at each system in more depth. Not only that, initial prices of consoles are ridiculous. It's getting to be a waste of money; pardon my french. Waiting sounds like the best option if you're really having trouble deciding.

    Black Friday is an option ... with online shopping it's a lot cleaner. You could give that a go. You might get lucky and end up with both consoles for the price of one.

    The truth behind these words is so great ... it hurts. Everyone always wants me to 'take a look' at their computer ... like they don't know something is wrong with it. And then, I fix the bluescreen, I 86 the viruses, I clean everything out, and all I get is a pat on the back. I just did 200+ USD of work for you to click on that free iPad ad again ... I'm like Spiderman, everybody gets one.

    This is why I don't trust old people with the internet ... because I can't trust the internet.

    Not really ... in fact you probably saved yourself a few hours of explaining. Just wait till she's away from the computer, install adblocker on all the browsers just to be safe. It'd probably be a good idea to go ahead and scan with AVG, MalwareBytes, or whatever anti-virus you like. Then, the next time granny gets on the computer she'll be talking about how it must have been a delay on the internet ... or something ... because the pop-ups are gone. Then you can revel in the fact you did your granny a solid and didn't have to explain a thing.

    My first thoughts when I saw "Listen" wrote on the Doctor's chalkboard were this, "Listen to the silence." I think it was a little bit of sourpuss carrying over, not wanting to let go of Eleven's reign as Doctor, but it was an eery thought. Perhaps these creatures who were made to hide are going to be Twelve's 'Silence' or maybe they were just one-episode props ... though from past experience, that is highly doubtful.

    I don't believe that it was one of Pink's friends pulling a prank because it had the Doctor truly absolutely terrified, no matter how much he didn't want to show it. Then again, children do tend to terrify the Doctor.

    I also have a strong doubt that the Listen are tied into Missy but I do have a strong feeling that they will play a big role later on down the road. Look at how the Silence was used as a long running theme. The first time the silence was mentioned was in "The Big Bang" (2010) and would be a recurring theme until "The Time of the Doctor" (2013). It is highly possible we'll be hearing more from the Listen in the near future.

    Moffat is always being Moffat.

    The only thing I use tumblr for is a cheap laugh now and then. There are some interesting comics but that's about it.

    EDIT: Go ahead and click the link in my signature. It has like 1 or 2 posts. I don't tumbl.

    My Avatars

    When you crop, the dimensions should be 783x783, at least for this particular example. Once you have it matched then you can resize to 200x200. Gimp will do this with ease, I know.

    Imagine it like this ... you have a rectangle that's 500 long by 100 tall (imaginary form of measurement) and you want to take a square out of that. You'd cut off a piece that was 100 long and 100 tall (simplistic). Now you want to shrink that piece to fifty by fifty. The only way you can do this without destroying the piece is to have the length and the tallness both be divisible by 1 and equal each other. 100 divided by 1 is one hundred which equals 100. The piece can be shrunk without causing any damage.

    This was a very imaginative explanation but I hope the point gets across.

    My Avatars

    That's understandable. I normally turn to fan art in place of originals when I have trouble finding an adequately sized image.

    1x1 is the same thing as 200x200 in terms of scale. It's like fractions ... sort of. 1x1 basically means a perfect square.

    My Avatars

    I don't know if it's vertigo or something but when I was looking at some of your avatars, check the ones for Avatar and Legend of Korra, I noticed they were distorted. Make sure to crop on a 1x1 scale before resizing so there is no distortion. This keeps avatars nice and square while also keeping them from making me dizzy 0.o

    Also as Enzy mentioned, try not to just capture heads when making avatars. It's nice when there's a little more to look at. That and it's kind of creepy to just see a head. ~~~ xD

    I'd also recommend downloading GIMP. I don't use it personally, at least not anymore, but it's the closest thing to Photoshop you can get for free ... except when you get Photoshop fre-- *cough* Using GIMP you can not only crop and resize a lot better than online methods, you can manipulate (graphic image manipulation program) your images to make them more to your liking. Changing colors, blurring, filters. The possibilities are endless.

    You've probably been told this before but make sure that you use images well above the size that you need. I often get HD images (1920x1080) when I'm making avatars (200x200) just because I don't have to worry about a loss in quality. You don't have to get images that large, that was just an example.

    You had some pretty cool avatars. My favorite was the second one in Kingdom Hearts (the one of Roxas). For some reason it was like a nostalgia explosion when I saw that one. Not sure why.

    I don't mean to be nitpicky but it looks as though you've distorted the image instead of cropping and then resizing. I recommend cropping a 1x1 scale square before resizing to a square, specifically when the initial image is not square. That could also be playing a part in the reason it appears to have better quality.

    If you'll compare the images below you'll see what I'm talking about.

    View attachment 39915 View attachment 39914

    Most of the time though, when you resize an image to be smaller than its initial form, it's going to appear to have better quality. Really, most of that is because the spots that make the initial look bad become smaller and blend in with the rest of the image.

    I never actually view the new posts anyway. I more or less scan the forum for any interesting topics I want to post in. I can see how this would be useful to some but I don't think it's worth installing an add-on for.

    Derp~

    That was the cause. I uploaded another avatar and it works fine. I went ahead and used the one you gave me because my PS is 10-0.

    Problem solved. I haven't actually implemented Makaze's script for avatars yet so it wasn't that but it was due to the image itself.
