Has anyone else read this book? I will be honest, the only reason I tracked it down was because I was reading into the story of Bioshock and I came across Ayn Rand.

She is the entire basis of both Bioshock games with her book, Atlas Shrugged, being the main influence and reference.

The book itself is rather long but well worth the time put into reading it. I must say that it has affected the way I look at things from the meaning of songs I listen to to the way I look at life in general.

    Basically, read this book!

D: I can imagine your pain. Did you not get some degree of satisfaction that the production was a success? D:

They can say and do whatever they like but pretending to be something that they are clearly not (by the fact that the thing they are pretending to be is known to be fictional) makes them seem very shallow and pretentious =/

Are you saying it's obnoxious for me to state my opinion? That seems rather obnoxious of you =/

Reality is rather important as it is what decides whether you live or die. Imagination cannot bring you food or air. It cannot prevent your death or prolong your life. Imagination, although an integral part to creativity and therefore being human, is always second to reality.

As I have said before, it shows the person as unable to accept what they are and therefore unable to accept reality.

Umm, no? Because they do it in the RP area where it is supposed to be. Doing it in the Spamzone is the equivalent of a real life cosplayer doing their cosplaying at both conferences and in normal day activites.

If someone was cosplaying when they went to the shop or to school you would say they were mentally unstable. I don't say why it should be any different online

I just think that those that try to escape reality to that degree must have deep psychological issues that should really be dealt with by a professional =/

Aye, but we are all real people. If people want to pretend to be someone else they can do it where it is acceptable i.e. in the RP area. I do realise that this is a video game forum, but that doesn't mean that people should be able to pretend that they are something they are not

It isn't being obnoxious, it is being real and realistic. Reality is all there is, anything that reality denies is pointless =/

You know what's EVEN MORE NOT COOL?! Believing that being a fictional character out of specific role playing areas makes you cool and is acceptable :/gasp:

People are their own beings. No fictional character can take over being you. No matter how close a fictional character is to your own personality, they are not you.

It distresses me that people have to pretend to be someone else online and pretending to be someone that everyone knows to be not real is so fake and obvious =/

Aye but, it is hard enough to prove to others that you are being yourself online without pretending to be someone that everyone knows doesn't exist =/

Trying to show your emotion by posting a picture of someone who doesn't actually exist =/

i.e. Pretending that you are someone that doesn't exist. That is exponentially more sad than pretending that you are someone that does exist (and that is pretty sad in itself).

I pity those people that think that the best way to deal with the problems in their lives is to pretend that they are fictional characters =/

Although it can be said that paedophiles are born that way, the way they are born affects and damages other people. This cannot be allowed as the way in which it affects others is not chosen by those it affects i.e. the effect it causes will always affect those that it currently affects.

Therefore, paedophiles need to be reconditioned. If they refuse to be reconditioned then they should be locked up until they die =/ HOWEVER, they should never be experimented on. If they are proven to be born as paedophiles then being experimented on would be adding insult to injury. Having to go through reconditioning or being locked up for all of their lives would be enough.

Rationality is the only basis for life (read Atlas Shrugged). However, if the 100,000 people that I would save were incompetant and unable to provide for themselves then what would be the point of killing the person that I know/love? Should I do it because of the guilt that I would feel for saving the useless people?

    I think not.
