    Username: What?
    Name: "крыса"* or "зыурка"*

*(written in a pidgin argot spoken by the low-class servants and immigrants of Porthaethwy comprised of different local and foreign languages; rough Highborne Myamari language translations are, respectively "krysa" and "zyurka"; "snake" and "cockroach" respectively.)

Age: Unknown, claims to be anywhere from 15 to 27 depending on the situation.
Appearance: x (but more tattered-looking and disheveled)
    Class/Occupation: Street urchin.
Location: Outside a baker's shop near the Porthaethwy market.
Special Ability: Quickness of feet, seemingly hard to track due to years of thievery in the markets.
Weapon: Unarmed; personal smarts and sense of space around her. (e.g. When chased, she typically prefers fleeing and distracting/catching those following her by using the objects around her in the market)
Personality: Rash, abrasive, and quick to anger and jump to conclusions. Her situation has left her quick-thinking and untrustworthy of many people, especially those that attempt to help her. Has a very, very dark sense of humour and a "hollow laugh". Only helps when something is in it for her -- unless children are involved. Disdainful towards adults and authority. Preys on the sympathy of the unsuspecting. Has a piercing stare, combining that of a cornered rabbit with a sadistic hyena. Extremely, viciously protective of those dear to her.
Other: She is usually referred to as the nicknames "Krysa" or "Zyurka", sometimes interchangeably, as nicknames given to her; her original name was forgotten, or she was simply never named when born. She is a member of a group of young street urchins who reside in the alcoves by the docks of Porthaethwy. Due to the circumstances of her youth, her talent in magic is unknown and will probably continue to be, but she does not seem to be able to use it. She is fluent only in the low tongue dialect of the Porthaethwy streets, and can only speak broken sentences of Highborne Myamari.

Ahh, I recall the tutorial you used. It is a good start! Placement is both randomized and organized in such a way that things seem natural without deviating from the necessary directions that the player would take. Biggest recommendation would be to work on tree-work to make it seem more natural through multiple layering of the separate tiles if possible. I actually believe the tutorial in question goes into more detail about it if I recall correctly.

When you are confident with the basic ideas behind mapping, move on to parallax and more advanced things. The RPG Maker forum has great resources on tutorials on this. Aim to make your maps dynamic and interesting as much as you can. Also, work with new tilesets to experiment when you can get them. It would also not hurt to learn some tileset recolouring and make your own tilesets/move on to spriting one day. Baby steps.

Finally, hatok is correct, switches and events are key to these games. Try experimenting with them as much as possible. Make basic games utilising numerous events, move on to big projects, etc. Once you are confident with the default events, then is the time to crack your knuckles and get into the nitty-gritty. If you really want to make your future RPG Maker works shine, get into the coding aspect. It is a god mode. In general coding is necessary for every game as is obvious; RPG Maker does not require any real use of coding while still being dynamic and powerful, but if you know enough Ruby you can turn RPG Maker from your mentor to a real tool of your own control.

    Best of luck.

I absolutely enjoy the idea! As was brought up, it would definitely help up and coming writers get noticed and refine their craft. Furthermore I do believe that this degree of recognition would be immensely beneficial for not only the person who gets the prestigious choice, but act as an incentive for those who wish to get a bit of the limelight.

The way I see it, one Spotlight per section (Original Prose, Fandom Prose, and Poetry) would work well. I am completely supportive of this. Once we get some more opinions we can start opening nominations.
