Actually zoids was made after toys, gundam was made, but the company that produced it wanted to get more of a profit from it so they altered the original gundams colours to make it look heroic (Which made it look unreleastic) and now most shows are centered around models.

I guess, but the main company are more towards sell models of the Mecha then the actual show, so alot of changes tend to happen. For instance in Gundam SEED one characters mecha wasn't selling so they had him defect to the good guys.

There are multile universes. ANd some series are hated alot. Like Gundam SEED Detsiny has alot of hate. It all depends on which sereies you watch.
