Yes, my dad had pointed out to me that she said something like she wanted children to believe in magic, and that somehow made her the devil. Dx I'm friends with quite a few close-minded people. I find it's interesting that way, since I'm extremeeeely open-minded.

Losing that mindset will kill you well before you die.

Interesting story about the ICD. You can view it in two ways. Either positively, with a meaning that someone is looking out for you, and won't let you die, or a pessimistic view that you were only saved by pure chance this time, and there's even less chance of surviving next time.

I hate to be morbid, but have you got those letters done? I'd hate for you to die, but what would be even worse is for you to simply vanish without any message or word of what happened.

This is an example of the differences between your attempts at converting me, and mine at you. If you convert me, then in your eyes, I get saved from hell. If I convert you, then even in my eyes, I'd just be hurting you.

I know. It just takes a while to understand. Sometimes I just feel like god is not around even when I pray and ask for his help. I know in his time it is done. But it feels like it never will get done in our time. Important people in my life have been taken from me. The one I love is gone and I cant help but wonder he was taken away because I did somthing wrong. I know he has things happen for a reason and better things will come of it later. But it just seems impossble for everything that is going on now. Somtimes I just feel like he abanoded me and left me in the middle of the road. I know he doesnt do that but I have so many doubts.

See he always has his way ^^ Years ago I was haveing doubts and needed to know if he was real or not. So somone I extreamly cared about had this extreamly bad tooth ache. He's athisit mind you. So I said "Lord I need to know if you're real this may sound stupid but I need you to make his tooth ache go away" I went to bed that morning woke up and saw a left message for me he said "It was the weirdist thing. I woke up this morning and the swelling was gone and it doesnt hurt" and its okies I understand!! : D

Everyone has their own type of doubt. It's how we are. But the lord will always come around and show you he really is with us. He will always show us he's here and prove he is real when we have doubts. But we have to ask him to prove it to us. And you're welcome <3 but there is no reason to thank me. This is what friends do right? X3

Yes, that mindset. That's the one I'm interested in. Instead of thinking of them as torments, you view them as trials that make you stronger, and get through them that way. It's all about how you interpret the events. That's not something exclusive to religion, although it often goes side-by-side. I want to learn how to think in that way.

I get how your logic works. With your faith, you have "God exists" as a fact in your mind. If bad things then happen, then it logically follows that it's to help you in some way. With others, there's no such faith in God's existence, so they draw the conclusion that because the pain exists, God does not.

I've already posted my thoughts on believing in a religion in the creationism thread. To summarise, I think it's possible that an intelligent person would realise that they'd be happier believing in a god, and choose to reject any notion of it being false, despite whatever their logical conclusion may bring them to think about the existence of a god. Whatever I do, I'll never logically acknowledge the existence of an all-loving god. There are just too many contradictions for my cynicism to pick at. I may be able to choose to believe irrationally, against logic, but to do so would require a great amount of effort, and at the moment, I'm neither willing nor able to muster the necessary willpower. Perhaps I'll decide to in the future, but for now, I'm more interested in trying to pinpoint the benefits of religion, and see if I can obtain them without the actual religion. (For example, the reinterpreting of your condition as something that protects you from drugs and alcohol.)

I'm sorry to have to refuse, because to you, it appears as though I'm signing myself a ticket to Hell. There's not much I can say on that particular topic, as it's a mostly theological one. Even so, surely an all-loving god wouldn't let the majority of his creations burn for eternity?

I'm more than happy to discuss Christ with you, but instead of gifts of gold and fine spices, I bring awkward questions, and I'd rather not drive any wedges into your faith. You're happy believing, and I wouldn't want to do anything to cause you to question that.

I suppose you're right. Aspects of your character have appeared directly because of the Bible, and all you had to do was accept them. However it was you who ultimately made your heart disease into something positive. Most people would go with the conclusion that there is no god, or that, like you said, they were god's chew-toy. So the Bible taught you some stuff about morality, but you were the one who turned your life around.

We started this conversation because I misunderstood your usertitle. Then it progressed to theology.

You've changed my perspective on religions and beliefs. Before, I was intent on simply denying them, because I fully believed that there was no logical reason to believe in them. Now I still don't think the religion is an acceptable explanation for anything, but now I've instead decided that happiness is more valuable than truth, so if your religion makes you happy, there's no reason for me to fight against it. In fact, to try to force my viewpoint upon you when you've found happiness with another would be plain barbaric. That's how I justify not arguing against your belief in God.

I can't find any such reasoning with your beliefs. I'm trying to follow along with why you'd choose not to try to convert me, and I can't think of anything. You're supposed to 'love thy neighbour', so presumably you don't want me to burn in hell. Yet if you don't convert me, that's what's going to happen to me. You might decide not to argue for fear of losing, but you honestly believe your choice to be the correct one, so that's not a valid reason either. You're most certainly a believer, so it's your belief that I will burn. So how do you justify not trying to convert me?

Oh, unless you think God will try to convert me later, or that you'll be more successful if you choose not to directly oppose my views, but instead simply have a passive discussion. Probably a combination of those two.

I'm not trying to accuse you of anything, or ruin this conversation. It's only that from what I know of your beliefs, there's no reason for you to not try to convert me. So I'm trying to figure out how you're trying to convert me, or how you reason that it's better not to convert me.

I really just do not do anything productive. I'm either in school, shopping, on KHV, or playing video games. That's it. My friends make fun of me sometimes that I never go out with them and ask how I'm not bored of doing the same thing all the time but I dunno. I'm pretty happy? haha.
Sundays I usually shop, for whatever reason.
