I'm actually pretty sure that they original comics started after he became superman, but there's plenty of background comics.
I think the current mainstream version of Superman said that after he developed his powers, Clark Kent "Traveled the world" for a year and came back as the bumbling newsreporter with glasses while being Superman in secret. But I'm pretty sure all the comics started out after he became Superman.

Well, she wasn't in the actual comic books except for a small cameo which was just her signature. They want to put her in the comics but they don't know how. Any role she could play is already filled by somebody else. She's a Smallville exclusive. Then there was an episode with visitors from the future who revealed there are no records whatsoever about a Chloe Sullivan. Before she disappeared she completely wiped any evidence that she existed. There's no government documents, birth certificate, etc. So she's the reason there's no record of her. She "traded" herself as a hostage to save Oliver who was being held hostage and the guy who held her revealed that she swallowed a cyanide pill and killed herself but Oliver found a cyanide antidote in her apartment! But yeah, after being a regular for all 9 seasons, she's now a recurring character or guest star, I'm not sure.
Lana was Clark's first love though! Even in the comics. That's actually a big part of his story but not many people know that lol. He does end up with Lois but his childhood was all about oh sweet Lana.

It's about Superman BEFORE he turns into Superman. He's a hero, but not THE hero he's destined to be. And his powers are still developing. His final power would be flying and he'll finally be Superman when he wears the tights, but then it'll be the end of Smallville, hence the "no flight, no tights" rule.

Well, there was Lana who gained super powers similar to Power Girl (thought I doubt you know who that is xD) and absorbed kryptonite so she couldn't get close to Clark so she went off to be a superheroine somewhere else. Chloe who Clark didn't like that was but was his best friend who then married somebody else, then had her husband killed by the human persona of a monster who became obsessed with her and then started dating the Green Arrow before doing something stupid and disappearing from existence. Alicia came before that and actually married Clark (although she tricked him) but she died to protect his secret. Lana's the only one who, in my opinion, didn't get a proper send off. He claims he's over here when he was so heartbroken after she left and it never showed him getting over her.

Lol yeah. he's been close, but never fully flown. In the last episode I watched, he flew for like 5 seconds before crashing back down.

Also, in the last episode (the one I missed ; ;) they finally said "I love you" to each other while slow dancing and he started floating in the end. Which is a big deal because he still hasn't figured out how to fly (One of Smallville's biggest rules is No Flight, No Tights).
