And its funny, because at that point in the story, Cecil is a Paladin, but you start the game with him as a Dark Knight.

And he must have had a flashback to his Dark Knight days... Notice the item description reads, "One of Cecil's favorites."

They did it because they didn't want the American market to seem as if they were missing out on stuff.

Also, Nintendo wouldn't allow Part 2, 3, and 5 released due to Judeo-Christian references.

Even part 1 and 4 were heavily edited. For example, all crosses were removed from part one in the american version. The spell Holy, was renamed, White.

In part 4, a guillotine is edited out of a kidnapping scene. Also, Cecil never finds his porno in the american version.

In part 6, the spell Holy is renamed Pearl.

Yeah... thats the Japanese Sequal numbers then.

The American series numbers wen't accurate until part 7, but the re-releases for PS, PSP, and DS, have the Japanese sequal numbers.

Originally in the american market it was 1, 2, 3, and 7. And several side serieses such as Mystic Quest, and Adventures. However, those remain mini series in the Japanese versions, and generally weren't as good as the main series.

The equivalent of 1 was of course part 1. The equivalent of 2 was part 4. The equivalent of 3 was actually 6. Then when they released part 7, the finally decided to call it what it really was... Final Fantasy 7.

Final Fantasy 3? As in the Japanese 3?

There are Dark Knights in that one.

In Final Fantasy 1... there are no Dark Knighs... Unless you count Garland...

Dark Knights arn't in all of them... in fact they are in very few...

Basically... they are highly armored units, with moderate defense and amazing offensive stats. They never can use magic though, but they have a sometimes have a special move called Darkness (aka Unholy Sacrifice) which takes about 1/3rd the HP of the Dark Knight, in exchanged for a massivly powerful attack which hits multiple opponents.

They are usually just Job Classes and can be changed into or out of same as a White Mage or Monk. There are a few Dark Knights who are Dark Knights in canon. Some are heroes, some are villians, all are badass.
