Basically someone who was thought to have been an ally, betrayed people. Then he wanted something from someone. He got it, took off with two others that were on his side. Then those that he had betrayed figured out the actual thing he wants which is some key. He's going to use that key to destroy a world but in order to get that key, he has to destroy the town the main characters live in.
I'd explain it a lot better but that'd be paragraphs long. XDD
