Kun~ used by people of senior status addressing someone of junior status. Sometimes refering to male kids and teenagers, but it's not a hard rule because people still refer to females as 'kun'.

San~ Respect kind of like Mr. and Ms. but is also used on locations as well like honya-san (bookstore + san).

Sama~ More respectful version of 'san'. Usually of someone older than one's self. Also used in phrases like "o-machido sama" (sorry to keep you waiting).

So yeah, that's basically it.

They're used a lot actually. Used when trying to be polite to someone, etc. They are honorific terms that the Japanese use.
