Since it was brought up, though, could you elaborate on this localized audio deal and how it differs from whatever was previously used? I was reading old posts a while ago and came across that, and I don't think I ever really understood that.
So before, sound effects played at more or less the same volume regardless of where the character/object that produced that sound was. But now things that are far away from Sora (or more accurately, the camera that we look through) sound quieter, while things that are closer sound louder. At least that's what I observed.
This problem doesn't seem to affect cutscenes. I assume this is how they do surround sound for the gameplay, but I'm speaking with zero actual experience.
Hm. Looking at it again, it looks like that already existed, and just they just "improved" it, though, unfortunately, it didn't go as planned. This is from the original Kingdom Hearts II, and if you pay attention at 4:55, you can hear Goofy's low HP cry fade when Sora goes in the air after Pete attacks, though you can still hear it:
There's another instance earlier in the video at 1:30, where Goofy's knock-back damage cry fades after he falls in the red.
Although that still doesn't explain why when you're right next to Pete, for example, you don't always hear him say "Get out of my way!" or "Yeah-ha!" or whatever cry for whatever attack he's doing.
Or if you're right by your allies, and they get hit with an attack that *doesn't* cause knock-back, you don't hear the yell a lot of the times. This happens with knock-back attacks, too, but most of the time, they don't get sent flying that far, unless it's Shan-Yu or something and they're positioned just right, in which case, you'll always hear them.
Then you also have the case where if Donald, Goofy, or the world ally gets repeatedly attacked, like by Shan-Yu when he goes berserk, they won't continuously scream and instead start, but then stop. That might be part of the general sound effects issue, though, like not hearing all of Xigbar's bullets.
Rather than fill your profile up with embeds, take a look at the videos from the thread I linked to above earlier today (or yesterday for you) for examples, which you may have already seen when I posted them, but it's been a while. Specifically, posts #12, #14, and #15 at the time stamps mentioned.
