It's a strategy game on PC where you take any nation in the world from 1444 to 1821 and try to conquer other countries, build up a strong economy and colonize.

Well I've been planning to make a total conversion mod for this game. It takes place around 100-200 years in the future and it is centered around time of great change in Europe. The main concept is the division between authoritarianism countries and democratic countries, and most importantly, the spread of anarchy.

The part I need help with is the information. I would like to make the game as factually correct as possible. I want to present a realistic scenario where the ideas of anarchy and fascism are spreading rapidly throughout Europe. The tricky part is playing as an "Anarchy Country", which I already have a few ideas for, but I want to make sure I do things the correct way.

    What's your opinion of Anarcho-Capitalism?

Anarcho-capitalism is the most intuitive version of anarchism. It draws on many of the things we already value as a society and turns them into principled stances.

Anarcho-capitalism's greatest strength is its versatility and potential for advancement. Where state-controlled markets are profitable, anarchist markets are doubly so.

Everyone can add advancements to the pile without having to pay royalties and everything increases at any exponential rate for as long as a state if kept from power.

Anarcho-capitalism's greatest weakness is its similarity to a state-run society. Anarcho-capitalism relies heavily on market competition to keep people from becoming horribly amoral in their search for profits.

Any market system can be monopolized in the form of incorporation and conglomeration. Take roads. One of the most common examples of markets that cannot be controlled by anarchism is roads. If every road is private, it becomes tedious to keep up with tolls and both the owners and the consumers who use them suffer. If the road owners do consolidate, then they can form a monopoly and thereby gain the power of a state.

Every anarcho-capitalist society would be doomed to fall to these in time, if a state did not beat them do it.

Anarchism is built in a belief that monopolies are the most harmful thing in existence. Anarcho-capitalism enables monopolies via its habit of putting good business ahead of preserving anarchism.

    Anything specific?

Is there a type of anarchy that you could see succeeding in the future? One that would still fit the mechanics of a political strategy game, where things like military and territorial expansion could somehow work? I feel like Anarcho-Capitalism would be the best type for this project because it's seems like it would be the easiest to transition into.

It's the best for the project. Anarcho-communism is the most sustainable system but it pretty much does require people to be sacrifice personal profit for overall profit.

Anarcho-capitalism is the most conducive to politics and war for sure. It's about competition and expansion of individual power. Supply and demand rules them so weapons will be everywhere.

Think of modern society but with private courts and private defense/community watches/militias instead of state agencies.

This is a minor detail, but an important one. What would a place like this be labelled as on a map? I have this revolt system in the game where if a province's majority ideology is nationalism, that means that a nation is more likely to change into a fascist government.

If a nation is democratic, and all of its provinces are nationalistic, that nation will be at a higher risk of a revolt forming and forcing the country to change into a Authoritarianism government. This mechanic was created to further differentiate between the people being completely loyal to a government or completely against having one.

Seeing how the map is what you're staring at the whole time you're playing this game, the name of each country displayed on the map is important for immersion. My idea was to have each country named what it currently is named in English, but if it becomes an authoritarianism, it would change to whatever that country is called in its native language.

So Germany would be called Germany as a democracy, but it would be changed to Deutschland when it converted to authoritarianism to reinforce the idea of nationalism in the game. But if an anarchist revolt happened in Germany and it accepted the demands, turning into an Anarcho-capitalist place, I haven't come up with a name that I think would be logical.

It has to be something that lets the player know that it used to be Germany, but it can't just be called "Germany" on the map. Do you have any suggestions?

Oh, names? Anarchists aren't very collectivist, so it wouldn't be a nation's name, but a name for the land. Anarchists will name it something that means 'The land we come from' rather than 'The land that is ours'.

Would Anarcho-Germany work? Or would something generic like "German Region" be better? Would an anarchist embrace their culture or would they typically distance themselves from it?

Anarchists tend to distance themselves from cultures even if they hold those cultures close to home because they believe that each person is a person unto themselves instead of a bunch of people who are under one culture. All men are brothers, and all of that.

That said, anarchists also believe in free association. It's not at all unheard of for people with different cultural backgrounds to separate under anarchism.

Thank you for your help. I may have some questions in the future, but for right now, I'm going to get started on what I have so far. I also think you should try and play EUIV whenever it goes on sale. It's a great game and I think you might enjoy it.
