Another game idea I had was a Sims style game where instead of taking control of a suburban family, you are are in control of a pantheon of gods.

Hera yelling at Zeus for becoming a swan and impregnating the neighbour. Trapping Set in the kitchen with a plate. Odin luring Thor and Loki into the pool and deleting the ladder.

More like you make your own pantheon of gods and do the crazy god stuff that we all hear about in legends.

Ok, but I still want to do the Odin and pool ladder thing. What's the point of a sim game if I don't get to make my own story?

Replace pool with lake and there you go. Fits more into the game's theme.

Lakes don't need ladders. Unless he lures them into a mountain lake and then raises the sides so it becomes a lake at the bottom of a pit.

A lot of bullshit happens in legends.

But yeah, I envision a lot of customization. Everything from your gods' appearances (everything from human looking to not), what their domains are (said domains will also assign them their powers. For example: a god of magic will have incredible magical powers), and more.

The currency would be number of prayers received in a day. So you start out with maybe one follower, and have to build from there.

And you get operatunities to prove your godly power to the mortals in order to keep worship up. Divine wrath or intervention can boost worship. But in some cases it should also hurt worship as well, for example if your gods are too vengeful the people may stop worshiping you out of resentment. It's all about balance.

Was that opera-tunities intentional? Because people writing full operas to you would probably give you a lot of worship points. Not only is that a show of faith, it would spread the word about your pantheon if the opera is popular.

Also plays, books and paintings. Depending on era, movies, music and tv. Basically, seduce the artists. Make them worship you.

Having a god/dess of arts will help with that.

Well it is a pantheon. Unless you just start with one god/dess and the more worship points the more god/desses you'll attract to your pantheon.

Well it should be an option to play a monotheistic pantheon. I.e. only one god.

I think a pantheon has to be a group. Maybe one big god and a crap tonne of minor gods. Or only two or three gods.

Well you can play Sims with just one character in a household. Why not one God?

Then the "Make a pantheon" achievement will forever go unfulfilled.
