Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaand, once again, I neglect to hit "Post Comment". I really need to get this left click checked out. Can't even remember what I was going to say.
Nothing much. Been working on my KHV JoJo story, took my nephews out to see Godzilla yesterday (which would make it my fourth time seeing it), and took my dad out to eat for Father's day.
Nice. I've been drawing my OCs, I saw Maleficent and How To Train Your Dragon 2 (both excellent, highly recommend), and I'm spending tomorrow with my dad.
Well let me say that it wasn't a bad movie per say, I just didn't like it. The main reason being they didn't keep Maleficent a villain. She turns evil in the movie but that doesn't last til the end which disappointed me, she didn't turn into a dragon which is one of the most memorable things about her, and she wasn't evil with a capital "E".
Which is kind of the point of the movie. To make her the "misunderstood villain". As if the story was told two ways: From history's perspective, which was the original Sleeping Beauty and from Maleficent's perspective.
I like to think of it as if there were two alternate universes, created when Maleficent casts the curse. In Universe A, she doesn't spend time watching Aurora and instead, coops herself in her castle, brooding. This in turn turns her into a truly Evil person,
feeling no remorse and blaming all her troubles on others. She attracts no friends so when she has to dragon-i-fy, she has to dragon-i-fy herself, which is probably dangerous. In Universe B, she watches Aurora and starts feeling remorse for her wrong-doings. She gains friends, and when she needs a dragon, she turns Diaval (crow-dude) instead. This is probably less dangerous.
But if the events of Maleficent are the actual historical events then shouldn't the story be the same for Sleeping Beauty? Aurora is the queen of the two kingdoms by the end.
Lox, calling alternate universe is a cop out and you know it.
Not necessarily. Actual history is actual. The known story is what was written down. "History was written by the victor" and whatnot. Maybe somewhere along the line, one of Stephan's followers decided "this is crap, I'm going to spread my version" and that one became cannon.
And it's just my preference, go ahead and find your own theory.
Why not? What if 100 years after Maleficent, they decided to go to war against the Moors again, but first they had to demonize the beloved Maleficent, Godmother to Queen Aurora, to give the troops cause to fight?
Not really. We already know that the Moors are very wealthy in regards to gems and natural resources (trees and stuff). And we already know that humans are greedy little buggers, unable to hold an alliance with someone wealthier than them for more than a century or two, and are also devious enough to lie out the wazoo to get what they want (propaganda).
It's pretty common knowledge that Napoleon was short, right? He wasn't really. 5'7". British propaganda had him around 5'2" or shorter though. So it's not too far of a stretch that some future king in search of wealth decided to stretch certain truths to come to the one he wanted.
