So any opinion on this idea that might be doomed to failure?

Hmm...Well, it'd have to be handled right, but even then I'm not sure how many people would take to the idea.

I'm currently trying to work out all the kinks to the idea. One of my ideas are Equestria (which Is what I'll call the planet MLP takes place on because humans and Earth still exist) has become a multi-species Empire in the future and it is brought into the galactic community around the same time humans and the turians are fighting.

That could indeed work. Like you said, some extra kinks would need to be worked out, but I think you could definitely make it work. If you're still unsure, you could ask the opinions of other RPers as well. A second opinion is always good.

Of course the story won't be centered around that. It would mostly follow the plot of the ME games just told from the prespective of a pony squadmate.
I'll go ask for the opinions of some others.
