Okay there is that. BUT which is better: a guy who has lost his mind losing several skill and who's only method of attack is well attack or some one who can think, plan, and use those skills and still remain strong?

It probably surprised them because they didn't believe you were serious. One of the things children (When I say children I'm speaking any age between 0-18 that still lives with their parents) say all the time is that they'll "run away" or "leave". It's so common that some parents just shrug it off, but when it does happen they're all surprised by it.

In my case, I want to leave to get away from my father. The problem is, doing so would mean that I also leave my brothers and mother behind, and I would never want to leave them with my father...

Then it's a good thing you're living with your grandparents if your mother/stepfather weren't respecting you. Nobody should be treated that way.
