Oh no, I don't write yaoi, yuri or slash. It's just straight up fanfiction (where the main character tends to be very close to me because I suck at truly ORIGINAL OCs, lol).

Sometimes, you just can't do it (even for 7 to 8 months), but there's no shame in that. At least, not for me anyway.
Yeah, they're never fun (though this is the first real one I've had ever; I know, I live in Florida, but I've really only gone to the beach two or three times in my life). Thank you.

Oh gosh, GIMP . . . See, I used Photoshop CS5, and I haven't looked at the user interface of GIMP in so long, I wouldn't know how to write a decent tutorial for you . . .

I can give a small bit of advice though, since you have selection access: if you're using simple shapes like a rounded square or a circle, maybe a star or some such, then make sure that your shape is selected and then contract the selection by maybe one or two pixels (this is a different method I use for the simpler shapes, it works rather well and is hardly noticeable), and then invert your selection (I assume it's still ctrl+shift+i) and then blur the edges.

Note: That doesn't work very well with more complex shapes, but for some others, like the one I used for Nix's banner, it might. For the way I got his, I simply used a complex brush from a set I downloaded and erased part of the image with it, just enough to make it interesting. Then I proceeded with the steps above.

I'm sorry that I can't be of more help to you in this field, it's just that I haven't used GIMP in so long, at least three years. I hope I helped a bit, though. c:
