By Big Arm, are we talking about the giant Eggman Robot from the end of Sonic & Knuckles, or the silly Eggmobile thing with spiky arms? Because the former would be far more badass.

Yep. Possibly might go for Metal Scourge too, who is basically Metal Sonic, but recoloured to resemble Scourge. You could go for Metal Sonic 3.0, Eggman Nega's version, if you wanted.

Neo Metal Sonic is the taller version of Metal Sonic seen in Sonic Heroes. It's the same character, just a different form.

If they were to do anything like that, the most it would be is an alternate costume for Super Sonic, a la Sonic Adventure 2's multiplayer mode.

Eh... Hyper Sonic was the same, just a gameplay element created to make up for the fact that Sonic 3 & Knuckles was meant to be one game with one set of emeralds. Super Emeralds, Hyper Forms, both non-canon.

Knuckles could always use the regular Chaos Emeralds. And since the Super Emeralds were literally nothing more than a gameplay mechanic, it's never been stated whether or not Tails would be unable to use them too.
