Hey, Misty. Remember when I asked about that whole increasing session timeout option, but you were against it, because it was just so I wouldn't time out while taking showers, running errands, etc.?

I found another method that would benefit everyone. If you go to Admin CP -> Settings -> Options -> General Settings and scroll down to Thread/Forum Read Marking type, there are three options:

Inactivity/Cookie Based (default)
Database (no automatic forum marking)
Database (automatic forum marking)

The last one is the one you want.

If you use the database, be sure to use the last option (automatic forum marking). What it does is once you read a thread, it disappears from the search results (unlike the first option), and if there are any unread threads when you time out or log out, they don't disappear compared to the first option. "The following messages haven't been updated since your last visit, but contain unread posts."

There is no user setting.

If you're going to use the database option, use the full one. The no automatic marking leaves the forum home markers unmarked (that there are new posts) until you've viewed the threads again.
