You do it better than me, according to that picture you posted. o: But really, I just draw a sun or something in one corner, for reference and shade accordingly. If the light is coming from one direction, I just shade only the opposite of that direction. When the lines look too sharp or blunt, I use the watercolor tool in Sai to soften the ends/edges.

When I'm not paying attention to where the light is coming from (bad Jayn, BAD) then I just shade what I want, lol. Usually I'll shade the edges of everything (clothing wise). I always shade the top and bottom of the eyes. Uh. With the hair, I really just play around until I like it. I don't really have a method for most things, I just feel it. Sometimes I never like it, and I force myself to get on with posting it anyway. :D
