The strength of Nanoha's bond with you depends on how heavily she beat you. The first girl was shot in the face with her strongest (as of then) move, to the point of rendering her unconcious and breaking her weapon. They later become lovers. Yeah.

Oh, and pretty much everyone Nanoha defeats becomes her friend. Defeat Equals Friendship is a physical law in their world, it seems.

One thing I love about the series is that heroes and villains aren't obvious straight away, because some villains look more 'heroic' and some heroes look more villainous. Take this character, Reinforce, for example. One would assume villain from her appearance and moveset. Nope, she's good, and slowly dying for the sake of her master.
