Wartime Reverie

Before Nny could walk away Allen said, "no. I'm more useful than you are down here, you just don't want to admit it. You need me down here. Not only would you have not found this place without me, but even if you had, your outfit, and, more importantly, your attitude would have kept anyone from giving you the time of day." He walked to where he could face Nny. "More than that, I know how things work in the slums, I grew up in slums, I spent a long time living in these slums specifically. Down here, you're a stranger, you clearly have no idea what you're doing. But this is the world I grew up in, I know how things work here, I know the best way to do things, and you don't. That's pissing you off because you like to be the best at everything. But there's always going to be somebody who's better than you at something, you're just going to have to accept that. And if you would stop being so arrogant, you would realize I'm actually giving you really good advice. If you wanna try and go it alone now, fine. But at least take this." He held out the piece of re bar to Nny. "This could be a valuable trade item, if you knew what you were doing."

Allen looked as the pillar of light appeared and the strange girl came through. His anger melted as he watched her kill the creature with relative ease. "Maybe you should ask her."

 

Nny slapped the item out of Allen's hand. "You are clearly too single minded to realize there are more ways to get answers than simply asking nicely or making deals." said Nny as he walked towards the girl "And you finally got a good idea. I will ask her." Nny then stood infront of Claire "Excuse me, miss. Do you know what that thing that you just killed was? Oh and by the way, excellent job with that. It was impressive."

 

"Three seconds slower then last time, I am getting sloppy" The girl said to herself "What are you wearing?" she asked Nny "Your clothes are so tacky, anyway these things are consumers, haven't you heard of them? Why are there so many people here? This is against all safety regulations" she added as she looked around, looking for someone "Where is he?" she asked herself.

As soon as Robert saw who it was he quickly stood out of sight and pulled Reese with him "Don't alert her, I beg you" he said to Reese.

 

Nny could tell this woman had either been through some serious times or was completely off her rocker. Nny then began asking questions of her, intending to get whatever he could before someone else began questioning her or she got pulled away. "Consumers? What are those? What are they capable of?" Nny got close to her so that she wouldn't have her attention diverted.

 

In a second the girl had summoned her sword again and pointed it straight at his throat, the tip barley not touching him. "Back off" she said quietly and threating "Name, rank and ID number, now" she ordered as her eyes narrowed on Nny, he had the mistake of stepping to close to her without permission.

 

Nny backed away, sure he could have easily knocked aside the sword, but obviously this person was not in her right mind. "I don't have those, I'm a student. Or... was..." said Nny to her, hoping she would calm down afterwords. "I need to know more about these consumers, please... Can you tell me more?"

 

Allen walked up to them and spoke in a sarcastic tone. "Hey now, don't hurt him. He's only a huge jerk." Allen dropped the sarcasm and did his best to sound like he didn't care about anything. "More importantly, how'd you kill that thing? I fought them once and only managed to make more of them."

 

"I... I..." The girl tried to put her words together but she collapsed, she was exhausted from what ever she had been doing before appearing, her weapon and uniform vanished leaving her in plain black clothes. Though she was asleep her eyelids moved, as if having a vivid dream, or nightmare. Her body was also suffering malnutrition.

 

Allen forgot to keep up his act when he saw the girl collapse. He caught her and lowered her to the ground. "Should we take her to the hospital?" He said this just as much to himself as to Nny.

 

Nny quickly knelt to the ground next to her. "Yes, we must. But there are no hospitals in the slums, are there?" Nny then walked away and began focusing his energy. As he gathered the energy he visualized the best hospital in all of Janina in his mind. He focused on its presence, and then focused on his own place in the city. Nny then let out a yell as he created a portal right there infront of Allen and this new girl. "There, that will take us to a hospital. Now hurry up."

 

Allen stared in shock. He had no idea Nny could do that, or that, that was even possible. He started to pick the girl up. "Help me carry her."

 

Nny grabbed her by her legs and began moving her through the portal. Once they were on the other side, Allen and Nny both brought her inside. People in the hospital immediately tended to her. Nny and Allen were not allowed to go with her when she was escorted back. Nny then sat down and waited.

 

Allen leaned against a wall to wait. While he was waiting he thought about Nny. He wondered why he was such a colossal jerk, and why he cared so little for human life. Allen thought about Mixt then, and how that boy seemed to see life as worthless too. Then he thought about Crato, who seemed actively opposed to life. Thinking about Crato made Allen think about Raxtion's home world, and he started to get angry with himself. He found himself wanting to see Jen again; her presence was comforting to him.

 

The sky had begun to grow cloudy and with that it brought the calming pitter patter of rain followed by a surging bolt of lightning. The paved streets were now dotted with the foot prints of the first several sprinkles of rain and the smell brought on by the droplets sinking into the cement and tar hung on the wind. Phisoxa was dashing through the streets with her hands over her head, trying to keep from getting soaked as Shero followed in pursuit. The girls managed to get under the roofing of the palace walls and there they stood, trying to catch a breather after having to run so fast. " Alright Shero, stick close to me and mind yourself, hopefully the patrol guards will let us in... I'm going try and use Westus' old belt will get us through... " Phisoxa said reaching into her back and pulling out a belt that had a elaborate insignia on the buckle. " Are you sure a rusty old belt is going to get us in? What if they think that we are the enemy? Your uniform is covered in blood after all..." Shero said with a worrisome look as Phisoxa sighed and looked up at the sky, watching a lightning bolt rip through the dark clouds. " Trust me it will work... " Phisoxa said as she slung her bag back over her shoulder and rushed out from under the roofing towards the front gates where several patrolmen were talking among themselves. The men stopped talking when Shero and Phisoxa came into view. The youngest of the patrol unit stepped forward, looking slightly uneasy at the sight of Phisoxa's blood stained clothing. " Can I help you ladies?" The young man said as Phisoxa stepped forward and held out the belt buckle. " Can you please let me in to see Sir Rould? It's a emergency, I'm Westus' squire." The man was hesitant if he should let them in or not and he stood there thinking it over as the other men snickered in the background. It was then a smirk appeared on his face and he held his hand out towards Phisoxa. "Sure I will let you through just follow us back to the patrol tower so we can run your records through and determine if you are clear enough to enter the castle." The man said as Shero's face lit up, oblivious to the strange feeling in the air. " Yay, come on Phisoxa lets go !!" Shero said as Phisoxa stared at the man with a sneer on her face. She wasn't buying this guy's statement, not one bit. " Why would you need to check our records? Don't they have a detector installed up front?" Phisoxa said as the man rolled his eyes.
" It's standard procedure... after all you look to be in pretty rough shape for a trustworthy person so we will have to search you. Now come here..." The man said as he reached his hand out towards Phisoxa. Phisoxa's first response was to throw a punch straight at the man's face and then she kneed him in the groin. " Don't you dare touch me !!" Phisoxa shouted as Shero backed up in fear. The other men cursed under their breath and drew their weapons, running at the girls as suddenly there was a gunshot in the air everyone froze at the sound and turned to look in the direction that they had heard the gunshot. " That's enough gentlemen, lower your weapons or I will have you locked up for treason !!" said the deep voice of a man who stood off to the right and who was holding a rifle in his hand that was pointed up into the air.The man appeared to be in his late twenties and rather handsome;he was wearing a leather jacket that had armor that had been fastened into the coat itself. He had short dark mink colored hair and eye color that was similar to that of a black pearl's opalescent sheen. " General !!" One of the men muttered before dropping his sword and saluting the man quickly. " I apologize a thousand times for this mess, I'm assure you it won't happen again." The lead patrolman said as he reached down and pulled the downed patrolman up to his feet and scurried back with the rest of gate patrol to the patrol tower. " Who, who are you?" Shero asked their savior, that question alone caused Phisoxa to panic slightly because it would look good if they were in this city and didn't know who this man was. Phisoxa of course knew who he was but Shero who was from a small town in a land outside of Janina knew little. " You must be a foreigner ... I am General Nathaniel Volker. Leader of his Majesty's special council of knights."

( I still have much more write down, but I didn't want to take up a whole page so please let me finish before responding to me or starting anything with me xD)

 

As the trio of Allen, Nny, and Claire disappeared, Reese stepped out of the shadows. "Did you know her?" She asked Robert. She wondered what his reasons for hiding were as she looked on at where a large crowd had formed after their disappearance.

 

"Yeah I know her, but I like my head being attached to the rest of my body" Robert said as he came out of hiding "At the moment she would still be angry at me" Robert added as he started to walk "Come with me" he said as he led Reese away from the slums.

After an hour a doctor finally came out "Who brought the young violent girl in?" he asked, the doctor had a bandage on his arm.

 

Nny waited paitently during the hour that had passed by. He thought about the word 'consumers' that the girl had uttered before hand. Obviously it was the name of the creatures that had attacked the school and then name of the lone creature she had destroyed... but what did it mean? During that hour, Nny wondered what the meaning could be behind the name. What could their abilities be to earn them that name?

The doctor then came out and Nny immediatly got up from the chair he sat in and walked towards him "That would be me." said Nny purposely disregarding Allen's presence or involvement in bringing her here. "Now, how is she?"

 

Allen looked up when the doctor asked about the girl. He over to them. To mock Nny's attempt to disregard him he said, "you didn't forget me did you Nny?" He turned to the doctor. "We both helped bring her here. How's she doing?"

 

Dr. Traken looked to Drei. He could see the boy's inner distress. And after what had happened, who could blame him? "Are you alright son? You seem to still be in shock. What are you thinking?" asked Dr. Traken of Drei

 

Upon hearing the Doctor's voice, Drei looked up. "I'm fine, just lost in thought." He replied.
