Wartime Reverie

"I don't really want anything, I am mainly here to see how you are going, I am sure there are a few thing you are confused about" Robert said as he turned around "Almost right where I thought you would land" he pushed Reese a little "Right there, that's better and if you are curious I am someone who doesn't belong in this world, though the world I come from isn't that different, less magic more technology, oh and less slums"

 

"Someone not from this world?" She asked. "Is that it?" She asked herself. "Am I not from this world?" An Image flashed in her mind at that moment; A boy dressed mostly in black. She could not see his face, but there was an air of kindness about him. However, one thing about it ruined the image; the boys hands were literally thin and bony, with a red aura emanating from them. When her attention turned back to Robert, she asked him. "I don't know you, but do you know me? Are we from the same world?"

 

"I doubt it, but it is a possibility, but if I were you I would pray you are from a different world. Anything can happen during a dimensional jump, especially when it is done hastily or using the wrong method" Robert said as he thought to himself "When you arrived I sensed you used a crude message, and you seem confused so what do you know and not know?"

 

Nny looked at the market and all the people that were moving throughout it. Nny was honestly surprised. With all the people down there, a person would never know it was a secret place to begin with. Nny looked around at some of the shops. There were simply more people than Nny had thought there would be. Nny then started to grab people walking by and questioning them "What do you know about the attack on the academy?" Most people became scared and told Nny they knew nothing. And most of them were telling the truth. However, his questioning led to suspiciouns very quickly...

 

Allen grabbed Nny and pulled him back from the person he was about to question. "Sorry, he's...new," he said to the other person. He turned back to Nny. "You have no idea what you're doing down here, do you?"

 

"I really just don't care..." Said Nny honestly. "I'm here for answers... If I don't get any I'll start cutting down people just like I almost cut down you." Nny then shrugged away from Allen's grip. "Do you have any idea what those things were? And no, they were not just monsters, or horrors, or anything like that... They were the one enemy that actually could kill me. I've met many fighters in my life but I have never met a creature that was capable of doing what those things could have done to me. They must be eliminated, and you are going to help me figure out how to eliminate them, understood?"

 

Allen regretted bringing Nny down here, he also now realized just how scared Nny was. "First off, I'll die before I let you harm a single one of these people. Second those things were just monsters, particularly nasty monster, but still just monsters. They also weren't the only thing that could kill you. Sorry but it's the truth. And if you really think they're the only thing that could, then you're more likely to be killed by your own arrogance than anything else. Now if you want answers that badly you're best bet is an info broker. Did you find anything for trade?"

 

Nny laughed a little hearing the boy talk about arrogance. Clearly Allen knew nothing of Nny, and it showed. Nny lifted up a couple wallets that he had stolen from a few people. "Will these work?" He dangled them in front of Allens face smiling.

 

Allen shook his head, clearly Nny knew nothing about the slums, or he wouldn't be trying to pay with money. Here what mattered wasn't money, it was survival. Likely the wallets didn't even have money in them, just small things that the market goers found useful. "It doesn't matter. We're not trading with stolen goods. Do you have anything else?"

 

Reese thought to herself for a moment. "I know where I am, and about the other places that are in this world. I seem to know about some of the specific locations; like the fact that the school was recently destroyed. But I don't seem to know who I am, other than my name, or who.... or what I'm looking for." She wondered about what Robert had said about dimensional jumps, and whether or not that had to do with her situation.

 

Nny pulled out gems and diamonds from the wallets and threw them on the ground. Most of the people immediately ran towards the jewels. Nny never broke eye contact with Allen. "Well, I suppose those are worthless to us then." Nny then reached into his pocket and pulled out a cup and a tiny spoon with it. "This is all I've got, goodie goodie... Unless you want me to be a good boy and be honest, I could probably create a fabulous story with this."

 

Allen sighed. "Nny, these people don't need to be lied to, or stolen from, or anything else bad you could do them. Look around you, almost everyone here is dressed in rags, or clothes that don't fit, they're here trading for scraps and for garbage. Because that's all they have. Remember the weapons the others had when they came to my defense; they were crude, but they were some of the best made weapons you'll ever find, and the people wielding them could use them better than just about anyone. Not because they wanted to be the best, or because they wanted power, but because they have to be good with their weapons to survive. That's what it's all about in the slums survival, survival of yourself and others. People like you, and the other members of the higher classes, your survival is guaranteed on a day-to-day basis, theirs isn't. So they survive by helping each other, if one can hunt and another can't, then that one will share what he's hunted with the other one. That's how things work here. Slum dogs look out for each other. That's the unofficial code of Cassenova's slums. Because that code is followed, the slum dogs trust each other. We're not going to betray that trust, because these people need better than that."

 

"Hmm, amnesia, probably magical in nature, which is a good thing" Robert said thinking "But if it is I don't know what caused it. I don't have the resources to find out, but I know a place that does" Robert said not wanting to say the word "Eclipscion" he said hesitantly.

 

Drei had chosen to remain silent as he walked with Dr. Traken. He didn't have much to say and was still in some part of his thoughts.

 

Nny looked at Allen the whole time he talked with a look of disintrest. "Look, that's all very nice, but your... uh, Caring nature is beginning to get on my nerves. I don't care about these people, I don't care about codes, or trust. All I care about is getting answers. And you are wasting my time with your stupid morals and lessons. Those things that attacked the academy are going to be back... and even though I'm most certainly looking out for myself, I know what will happen to all the people here if those things attack this city. People may get away, but in the end, everyone else will die! Now, either help me get answers or STOP WASTING MY TIME!!!" Nny yelled at the top of his lungs. People looked and stared at the two, but most continued on there own ways after a moment or two. Nny stared at Allen with anger in his eye's. Allen had seriously pissed Nny off.

 

Allen considered hitting Nny upside the head with the piece of re bar, but thought better of it. Plus as much of a selfish jerk as Nny was he had made a good point, those things could easily kill everyone, and there was no telling if or when they would come back. He also thought that maybe he could teach Nny better with time and care. "Alright, but before we do anything you need to calm down, if you start scaring people down here you're likely to get yourself in trouble, and if it comes down to you or them, I'm on their side. And before you start telling me you don't care if you scare anyone, let me remind you that you're more likely to get what you want if these people aren't against you. Plus if you can't get a hold of yourself you might end up telling someone what happened to the school who doesn't know already, info brokers deal in information, selling and buying, if you give them their product free you lose bargaining power. Now I'm gonna give you a minute to compose yourself, and then we'll start looking for answers. Let me know when you think you can keep from freaking out."

 

"Eclipscion..." Reese wondered aloud. "...They're against Janina, right?" She wasn't yet entirly sure of Robert; he had come out of nowhere with the knowledge of her name, but he said that they had never met. Reese was beginning to sense some strong anger coming from the passageway the two boys had taken. "I hope whatever that is doesn't escalate into a fight." She thought to herself.

 

Nny listened to yet another moral lesson on how he behaved. It seemed that no matter how Nny put it, Allen just didn't get it. Nny wasn't going to change because he had no desire to change. He liked things to be done his way or no way at all. Nny deemed Allen foolish and naive and completely uesless to his cause. The only reason Nny hadn't started slaughtering everyone for information was because of this self rightous jerk. Nny immediately slapped Allen before saying "You are completely worthless." Nny then began to walk away.

 

Before Allen or Nny could continue a Pillar of Light appeared in the market. One of the creatures came from the pillar and started running, not towards anyone but away, as if it was terrified. Not even a few seconds later a young girl emerged from the Pillar, she wore a strange military uniform and in one hand wielded a silver sword, she chased after the creature and stabbed it threw the back of the head, she then quickly pulled her sword out and decapitated it, its head turning to ash as she then stabbed it in the chest, the rest of it turned to ash as well. The pillar vanished as the girl made her weapon vanish.

“Yeah, war is brewing so that will…” Robert trailed off as the pillar appeared in the market place, he quickly rushed over to see what was happening.

 

Reese was confused when Robert started running and guessed that he must have sensed the light too.She ran after him towards the passageway; even if she had not been through there before, she would still be able to pinpoint the location of the anger and the light. This would allow her to reach them. She and Robert came running out of the hole to see a crowd of people, the two boys from earlier, and a girl in a military uniform.
