Van Helsing

"I can deal with all the bad things you're going to have to tell me," Edward began, "if I get to talk to you about it like this every night."

 

Hannah sighed. "No. I don't want you staying up to hear my idiotic actions."

 

"Hearing your voice is good enough for me," Edward replied, yawning again. "And just lying like this... even if you talk about your problems, it's easier to forget them here..."

 

Hannah put a finger to her lips. "Go to sleep. I'll think about it." Though she didn't really plan to. She didn't want Edward losing sleep just so he could listen to her faults.

 

"Okay," Edward mumbled, shutting his eyes and sighing.

 

^ ^ ^ "Autographs, anyone?"

Van Helsing opened his eyes, surprised to find the room so dark. He saw Jinx's frame against the window and Edward and Hannah on the other bed. He smiled.

"Up early, dear?" he whispered at Jinx, sitting up on his elbows and running a hand through his hair.

 

"Yes," Jinx answered, simply, turning around to face him. "dear" she added, sarcasticly.

 

Hannah watched Edward sleep. Her attuned hearing caught Van Helsing's voice and Jinx's, but she ignored them, keeping her eyes on Edward. I'll stick with my answer. If he wants to talk in the morning before I go to sleep, then that's fine. But I won't let him stay up all night and lose sleep over me.

 

"Sorry," Van Helsing muttered, yawning. "I know you don't like that... anyway, what are you doing up? Don't you usually sleep when the sun starts to come up?"

 

"'sokay, I can deal with it." Jinx shrugged off the 'dear' comment now, "And I don't sleep, remember." she answered, smirking.

 

Hannah sat up swiftly, not making a sound. She looked at Van Helsing and Jinx and then stood up. "I admire how much you know about vampires." Hannah muttered to Van Helsing before going into the bathroom to look at her shoulder in the mirror. Damn... a scar. She tugged her shirt back over her shoulder. I just have to worry about the hole in my shirt now.

 

"What wrong with her?" Van Helsing muttered as Hannah left. Edward still slept. "And, yes, you do sleep... usually in a coffin or a dark cellar where the light won't get to you during the day. It does amaze me how you and Hannah can stay out all say with just cloaks on."

 

"I don't know what's wrong with her." Jinx replied, rather coldly. Then a smile spread across her lips at the theories Van Helsing had suggested. "Coffins, dark cellars?" she laughed very queitly, "What do you think we are, rats or consious beings?"

 

That silver is a pain. Nothing compared to what Edward has to deal with though.... Hannah ran her hand over the hole in her shirt. A new shirt's no problem. She looked at herself in the mirror. Maybe I'll try Jinx's way of hunting tonight....

 

"Well, if you can live forever, dear, you're not a human being," Van Helsing began. "But you are a being nonetheless. That doesn't mean sleeping in cellars and coffins is bad, though. It is for your survival against the sun and therefore, actually, a smart thing to do... if you know what I mean."

 

Hannah went out of the bathroom and sat on the floor next to Edward's bed, her back against it. Their arguing better not wake him up.

 

Jinx raised a skepicial eyebrow at his words, "I think you have a twisted idea of vampires, and of me. And it's sort of amusing in an odd way." she smiled at him, showing her teeth just a bit.

 

Van Helsing laughed quietly. "You're probably right," he replied. "I've been taught my whole life that you and your kind are monsters, but, lately, I've found that isn't true. So," he sighed. "You'll have to forgive me for my ignorance on the true, kinder ways of your people... you'll have to enlighten me."

 

Hannah bit her tongue. Don't get me started, old man.

 

"Yea, " Jinx agreed, "to ere is human. to forgive, divine." she quoted, smirking. "Having said that, what would you like to know?"
