Van Helsing

Hannah was glad to have an excuse to leave. She tracked Edward easily and soon caught up with him. "Edward!" She slowed a couple paces behind him. "If don't want to be near me anymore, I understand... But can I at least have a good-bye...?"

 

He turned when he heard her voice. "A good bye?" he asked, clearing his throat. "Where are you going?"

 

Hannah folded her arms. "You're the one that left."

 

"Oh," he said, looking at his feet. "Sorry... I just... I didn't mean to upset you; I was just really angry, and anger doesn't well with... with people like me. I wanted to know all those things you said and I'm glad you did, but it kind of hurt to hear them. I promise I will kill Dracula myself... somehow."

 

"You don't have too. It's not like it's your fault. Really... it's mine for being tricked so easily..."

 

"Wait," Edward said, triyng to smile. "I'm going say a Van Helsing line: if you'd had some stakes with you, you would have been fine in the first place!"

 

"I didn't know they were vampires!" Hannah playfully hit Edward's shoulder.

 

"Thank you," Edward said suddenly. "For finally making me smile. I haven't done that in eighteen years or so..."

 

"Stay with us and I might be able to get you to smile more." Hannah said, cracking a smile of her own.

 

Edward grinned now. "I always planned to stay... I just needed a minute."

"It's been more than a minute!" Van Helsing's voice shouted through the trees. "Now get over here before I leave you both with this farm woman!"

 

"My name is Beatrice." She said, after observing what had gone on.

 

"He's not good with people." Hannah muttered, walking back to Van Helsing.

 

"What the hell are we going to do with Beatrice?" Edward said as he and Hannah walked back over to Van Helsing.

 

"You sound as if she's coming with us." Hannah said to Edward. She looked at Van Helsing. "Is she?"

 

Beatrice looked at the three, still very worried about her horse.

 

"What use is she?" Van Helsing asked. "She's been no help at all so far."

 

"Do you know anything about where Dracula is?" Edward asked Beatrice very plainly. "Can you be of any use trying to kill him?"

 

"That's a nice way of putting it." Hannah rolled her eyes.

 

"I know very little of Dracula." Beatrice answered. "Only what I hear around town."

 

"Good God, she's useless!" Van Helsing muttered.
